Goodness!! I cant' believe what dogs are fed for treats...it's been a real eye-opener for me, and I'm sure puppy is going to love dog school for sure now! Will definately take into consideration what she is fed as treats, as to what she is fed for the day. Dog school is at night time, so I think she will be so tired she won't want to eat her dinner when she comes home either. Thank you everyone for your input. The most she get's as a little treat at the moment is a cat biscuit..and that is only every now and then!

In a couple of weeks, we start dog school with our soon to be 4 month old lab puppy. I've been advised to bring 'treats' for training, and am wondering what is the best to use. My last dog I'm sure, was born ready trained, and I didn't use treats at all....but I've a feeling this one will definately need them! Thank you!

That's great! She is about 3 and 1/2 months old so maybe will be okay with a whole one. Thanks for the info!

Couldn't get any chicken necks for my lab puppy today, so got chicken wings instead. I'm sure someone has told me they are okay but there is just more skin and meat than on a chicken neck that I thought I'd better check in here! She was on Royal Canin and a chicken neck, and doing well. Then I couldn't get the RC anymore, so switched to Advanced...which she eats under sufferance. She is not an overweight or fat puppy at all.

Very true Showdog! I was of half a mind to ask the question here after reading some other threads, I started off with the idea of what to do and then got very muddled up. Ausslielover, I've had very 'stern' instructions from my vet (who is a friend) not to let her get fat at all....so now I am paranoid about over feeding!! We cant' wait till she arrives...

She will be 9 weeks old when we get her shortly, so making sure everything is just right. I've never had a lab puppy before and it's been a long time since I had a puppy at all! Vet's told me to feed Royal Canin or Advance biscuits and the breeder is feeding biscuits with pet mince or tins of fish every 2 or 3 days. I don't want to over feed or under feed her..... Help!!......How much do I feed?

Thank you all for your replies.....I thought it was all a bit silly but you can't tell some people. I thought the same thing, imagine if every female dog had a litter...there would be dogs all over the place!!

We are getting a labrador puppy soon, and I'm so excited....but everyone is saying we should have a litter out of her before we sterilize her, as it will 'settle her down'. I don't believe in this and think it's a bit of an old wives tale but so many others think it, I am quite amazed. My beautiful old staffy that we lost recently was an extremely well behaved dog, she went through dog school and and everyone loved her....she didn't have puppies. Any thoughts on this please?
