  1. Jake is eating & drinking But still not walking.... He's bright & chirpy & happy to see people.. Thanks for all the thoughts coming his way I'm sure he can feel them.. Hoping that he will up and walking tomorrow.. Will update you with details over the weekend.. We are considering test for thyroid as that may be why he is not processing the calcium well.. Thanks again !!
  2. Jake has hit a flat spot overnight.. Got his meds into him quickly this time so hoping he will be walking again quickly.. Seeems like a fortnightly thing now.. This setback doesnt seem so bad.. He's not making the pain noises and is still bright and chirpy.. I bought him a heated cat bed as he loves to snuggle right into things and complains in the cold..All I can see is this little head peeping out to check on the world. :D Think this is going to be a long journey but hopefully worth the trip. Thanks again for all the support and I will keep you updated.
  3. AAAWWWWWW Thanks... He is doing really well this week. Almost have him housetrained now.. He is on restricted exercise and really becoming a boisterous little man.. He claims the house as his own and tells the others off. (possibly a little too spoilt) I've added some photos... One of him with my old dog Spud (19 years old) lazing in the sun with his SPF 50 t shirt... The other with his girlefriend Jill.. snuggled in the crate together. The last shows his back where he had the calcium needles.. It looks like it mayscar a little still. Hopeful that he will continue to improve. Thanks again for keeping him on your mind.. I'm sure he knows.
  4. Jake'resting at home.. has had pain meds this week and just starting to walk again.. Days when I feel like he's had enough he perks up some more and tries again. I wont give up til he stops trying ... so for now he's eating and drinking well.. just have to wait until legs are strong enough agin and see where we go from there.. Thank you so much for caring it's been a real battle..
  5. The roller coaster ride is not over... Jake woke this morning in pain again.. Just want to take all his pain away.. It's so hard watching him battle through.. While he keeps trying I have to keep going but just wonder when enough is enough. Trip to vet today for some pain meds and review. Thanks to all for the wonderful support.. It is VERY much appreciated.
  6. This is a recent pic of Jake & his girlfriend Jill.. She is 2 weeks younger than him but 1kg heavier.. She is a big bruiser with all the other dogs but seems to know Jake is special and cuddles him when he's tired. It's like his guardian angel taking care of him..
  7. Update..... Jake is home.. No pain meds... Vet believes diagnosis is : Nutritional Osteomyopathy.... Basicaly he never received important nutrients from mum as a small pup. He is now on a calcium supplement and Hills science diet with regular but restricted exercise. He had Calcium needles to promote bone regrowth initially and has minimal swelling in legs & jaw. Prognosis is still guarded as he may have long term bone issues. Foer now he is back home & loving it. Thanks for all the support & fingers crossed he keeps improving..
  8. UPDATE ...... My wonderful vet has decided to make Jake his special project.. He is in their care for a few days to see if there is any way of solving his problems.. He has been xrayed & sedated & will receive the best care possible.. All of the staff have fallen in love with Jake & I know if there is any chance of correcting his problem they will find it.. Thanks to the dedicated and wonderful staff at The Gables - Monash..
  9. Jake has hit the last hurdle and hasnt got the strength to jump it.. Trip to the vet today & I'll hold his hand as he crosses the bridge.. It's time for him to romp and play pain free.. Thanks for all the support I received from the many people in rescue..
  10. Thanks for all the support.. This is Jake this morning.. OH calls him my basket dog as I have him in a basket that I can move around the house.. Not sure if you can see his front legs but they have halved in size overnight.
  11. Day two of the new regime... Thought I had lost him last night.. Even refused to drink.. Had that death stare in his eyes. This morning expexcted the worst but found him alert & drinking again.. Swelling is reducing in front legs and he's looking for attention.. Hopefully we've been through the worst. Tough little man.. This is him a week ago..
  12. We had a vet visit this morning.. after a long night.. Vet rolled her eyes but agreed to put him on Clinacin at a high dose. She also gave him some pain management. He had a relatively normal temperature thank goodness.. I also got the lecture about growth plate deformities and long term affects. Told the vet I would deal with those as they showed. Again got the look.. Hoping that he starts to improve again.. He hasnt regained his appetite yet but is still drinking.. Will update again during the week..
  13. Thanks again.. He is very texture conscious with his food. I have some optimum adult dry food.. would that suit? And Cazstaff thanks for the vote of confidence :D I hope I can see this little guy through.. It's the most painful thing to watch.. No matter where you touch him he squeals & falls asleep with a horrible whine when he's in pain.. He's such a gorgeous pup that I would try anything to save him.. Think he will be my failed foster ;)
  14. Thank You !!!!! I have read so many contradictory vet sites & knew there HAD to be someone who had some natural remedies... Have taken him off "puppy food" & have started a Rice Chicken & veg stew type diet..(Put thru blender) At least then I know what's in it. Will be racing to health shop in morning for the Apple cider vinegar though.. He's been getting honey water to rehydrate.. Will also be taking article to my vet on monday... They had no idea of what treatment to try.. All came back with grim prognosis.. Thanks again & I'll update you on his progress
  15. Hi, Just after some advice really.. I have a 12 week old Kelpie pup who shows HOD signs after initial vaccination.. He is currently on Prednisone and in high doses it seems to maintain him.. Each time we have tried to wean him off he becomes ill again. His main syptoms are the acute pain & swelling in front legs and lack of weightbearing strength in rear legs. He becomes listless and refuses to eat.. I syringe him with fluids to keep him hydrated at these times. Has anyone been through this with a pup?? What outcome should I expect? (He already has one hyperextended carpal joint.) I have read that symptoms can last until 12 months of age.. Any advice would be wonderful.. THANKS...
