1. Ok.. another reply: 3R Animal Rescue Inc. Thank-you for your question Alison. We are working on making all donations tax deductible. Unfortunately the cost of adoptions doesn't come close to covering the costs of the dogs in care. At the moment all expenses come out of our own pockets and will continue to do so until we are up and running and have received some donations. Donations help us continue doing what we do. We have 3 of our 5 dogs in training at the moment which includes accommodation (as they are being housed at a pet resort where a trainer comes everyday), the cost of the trainer himself, Food which includes high quality biscuits and chicken necks and frames etc. and of course vet care (vaccinations, heartworm, intestinal worming, desexing, eye care for one of the dogs and a cut paw for another) So as you could imagine it does get expensive. We like to give our dogs the best care possible so this is where our money goes. Costs also build up the longer our dogs are in care so we rely on people sharing our pooches to get the in the best home possible, as soon as possible. 15 minutes ago · Like · 3R Animal Rescue Inc. Costs are also based on giant breed dogs currently in care: Neo Masiff and Saint Bernard :)9 minutes ago · Like I am now stepping AWAY from the computer....
2. Well that didnt take long... ME I have to ask.. Are you a not for profit org where I can claim my donations?? Also doesnt the sale of these dogs cover most of the expenses as people working in rescue are volunteers? 23 minutes ago · Like.. REPLY Donations always help groups. Just because they are still filing thier paperwork doesnt make them any less expensive to run than a charity. Imagine if charities could only help if the money came from their own pockets with no donations lots of groups would not be able to do a whole lot. 8 minutes ago · Like.. ME Was just asking.. Please dont bite my head off but in the world of rescue we have fed and cared for animals out of our own pocket.. Vet fees have been reduced as local vets encourage rescue.. e.g. I rescue from pound $21 for m/chip.. desex vacc health check etc costs $250.. I volunteer my time for training education and feed the dog for under $20 per week.. Dog will rehome for around $350.. With a follow up and return available within the first 2 weeks and ongoing assistance as required.. I an ALWAYS out of pocket.. But thats why I rescue : For the animal NOT for the money.. I've omitted names but posted for the NON FB users..
3. Thanks for the info.. Friend who is interested is an accredited trainer.. She thought she would be able to help fostering and educating.. When I saw the dollars they were asking for I had a huge red flag.. There are 5 dogs on petrescue under their name.. A Saint Bernard, a Chi with one eye and two others.. I hope others are as wary as my friend before jumping on board. Couldnt help myself... Have asked question on their FB page..
4. Hi .. A friend has asked me about this group wondering is she would foster for them.. Havent seen them before but there is a FB page. 3R Animal Rescue is a non profit organisation that rescues dogs, rehabilitates them both mentally and physically in preparation for their new homes. Mission Rescue. Rehabilitate. Rehome. Company Overview 3R Animal Rescue is a non profit organisation that rescues dogs that have been surrendered by owners, from unhealthy environments or dogs from situations that would have them be put to sleep. We take these dogs, assess them, put training, behaviour modification, and canine therapy in place to turn their lives around. We volunteer our time to make sure these animals get the best home possible. We rely on foster carers to take everyday care of them, whilst they are developing new behaviours, overcoming fears, and preparing for a more relaxed, fearless life. https://www.facebook.com/#!/pages/3R-Animal-Rescue-Inc/272927042827725 I was a little concerned as they ask for donations.. Any info would be great.. I think they are based near the Sunshine Coast..
5. I can understand your disappointment.. Sometimes the rescue groups dont have magic mirrors that tell us who you are or what commitment you have for your current animals.. Any 'special needs' dogs would have a more intense criteria.. Maybe the group wanted the dog close by where it is already receiving medical support.. I keep regular contact with my specials just to make sure things are going ok.. Even have regular visits with some.. Sounds like you have the commitment for a special dog and please dont give up on rescue groups.. Most have the dog's needs as their priority and may not have explained themselves clearly.. I have had people with their heart set on a dog only to visit and have another dog 'claim' them.. It's all about the overall experience.. Maybe you could help with fostering in your local area.. I'm sure any group would love to have you working with them :)
6. Done... Lots of poor photos though.. stance & weight also make deciding breed easier.
7. These dogs now have options thru Beagle rescue if nothing else comes up... True to his word Adam is willing to drive from Canberra to Newcastle to foster care if necessary.. Thanks to those that have offered assistance..
8. Thanks Burkes.. Have also sent email to Beagle rescue..
9. Just had a phone call from an AFP employee who is trying to rehome 2 male desexed Beagles.. Father is customs dog.. Both house trained and well educated.. Were rehomed 3 months ago to Nowra from Canberra but new owners are moving and cannot take dogs with them... Have suggested Beagle rescue or groups in Nowra.. Adam is willing to do anything to stop new owners putting them in the pound.. He will collect from Nowra if needed and help in any way possible.. Adam cannot have them for a long period of time as work commitments mean he is away from home a lot.. Any ideas please contact Adam : 0481152488... Please call Adam directly as I have not seen these dogs and just offered to help.. :D p.s. Adam will forward any photos if requested..
10. Home all weekend & am making a pile on front verandah.. Look forward to seeing you..
11. Hi All, I have 1 extra large foldable crate, 1 solid large metal crate(doesnt fold)Plastic dog beds, Cane dog Beds, Small transport crates and a selection of collars & leads that I have collected over the past few years.. If anyone can use them I am happy for them to be collected from Kambah ACT.. Having a huge clean out and need the space.. Havent had the chance to give them a good clean but I know most would want to clean them yourself anyway.. All work well and are secure.. Suit small to medium sized dogs.. Let me know who would like them.. PM me for pick up this weekend..
12. I have Murphy... A young cattle mix.. from pound as a pup and basic obedience.. a real character always willing to please.. http://www.petrescue.com.au/admin/groups/10084/listings/202473 Happy for a trial run..
13. Many thanks to those who have supported Jake & I on our long journey.. K9Angel.. you made the tears flow as I remember Christmas with Jake.. One special boy who touched many hearts with his strength and character.. Family and friends have been so supportive.. Dont know what I would have done without them.. Our house is empty without a special cuddle buddy.. Even the other dogs are looking for him.. I know deep down that it was time but part of me still wants that one more cuddle or one more time of greeting me at the door.. Murphy is here with me now trying to work out what's going on.. He hasnt realised that he doesnt fit on my lap.. Lots of cuddles though.. Thanks again to EVERY one who has helped Jake through his short life..
14. For those who knew or loved little Jake he passed away last week.. Poor little man had refused to eat and was hiding in corners looking for a 'place' to get away.. Many thanks to all who have supported us through this long journey.. I know he is watching over us all.. Many thanks to the lovely vet who helped me hold his paw on his final day.. Our home and hearts are empty... RIP little man
15. If you have spare meds most vet surgeries will take them back or maybe they have a pensioner client that you could donate them too.. Cushings is fairly common so there may be a needy aged pensioner that could benefit..
16. Chip checked... no details.. Weston Creek vet have taken her as I have recently had KC at home here.. She's a lovely old chook about 10 years old.. solid black with white patch on chest.. Has cataracts that dont seem to bother her... She was happy to move in and didnt mind being crated away from the other dogs.. Just curled up for a rest after her adventure.. If she isnt claimed would make a great rescue for an older family.. Will check in on her tomorrow.. She is listed at all the local vets & pounds so hopefully they will be looking.. Will do a mail drop in the area if owners not found.. Maybe someone knows her.. When I door knocked today no one even recognised her as a local..
17. Hi, As usual all the locals come to our home.. Kambah ACT Found in my front yard this afternoon a Black Min Poodle Bitch.. Seems a fairly old dog has cataracts and is wearing a red anti bark collar ( doesnt work tho!!) If any Canberra carers are aware of this little girl please let me know.. PH 02 62318054 Listed at DAS, RSPCA & local vets.. Will chip check her in the morning if still here.. THANKS.. !!
18. Thank you Micheal... Is always best to get it 'straight from the horses mouth'... Only one question though.. Is there a long waiting list for surrenders & if a person presents to surrender a dog are they given contacts within rescue groups as options as well as the pound?? Thanks..
19. They've always had a six week waiting list for surrenders at RSPCA ACT and discourage people from surrendering animals to them directly.. A friend who wanted to surrender previously was told to take the dog to pound.. Said they could not guarantee that there would be a place for her dog.. was a large breed... She eventually rehomed privately. I think it depends on circumstance too.. Maybe they thought the Koolie was a working dog that they couldnt rehome.. Have never had much to do with them but yes their prices are huge..
20. Have just started taking my failed foster to the local dog obedience for socialising & group work.. My 6 month old will heel, sit, stay & has basic recall.. I arrived to find very inexperienced handlers with dogs that could be classified in the aggressive area.. My little bloke was confused that other dogs could behave so badly.. Not a good start for him.. I guess in rehoming we have to be aware that no matter how much information we give the adopter there is a high chance that the dog will develop problems... I personally have a lot of contact with adoptive families and would never send a dog out of my local area unless I knew there was a support network available.. I have taken back dogs that dont 'fit' in their new home & have euthanased a dog that was fear aggressive.. Not something I enjoyed doing but was necessary for the safety of those who were involved.
21. Polaramine liquid for kids is the best antihistamine.. Can break down dosage for body weight.. Dosage on back shows per kilo. Foods may also be causing allergies.. Try going natural like a BARF diet.. Has helped Jake immensely.. He doesnt itch/scratch when on BARF.. There is also a stop itch wash that contains betadine.. Helps with any open wounds and soothes the skin..
22. Hi... Have read thru all the descriptions and checked the photos.. Dont be surprised if these are not mixed bred but poorly nourished.. I have a kelpie pup of the same shape & size.. Barely makes 10 kg and stands about 35cm tall.. He also has the rounding through his back that these have. He was diagnosed with nutritional osteo dystrophy and was not able to process calcium.. Calcium supplements alone would not rectify this.. It needs to be monitored by a vet as causes pain and bone infections. This is Jake.. Now 12 months old and still tiny. As you can see he has legs like an iggy and a tiny face.. He was bred on a working property from the old barb style kelpies. His mum and dad are working dogs about 20kg each. He is one of two littermates that survived.. I have had him since 8 weeks old. He was surrendered by farmer. Oh and edited to add.. If any are in Canberra I am happy to help with bathing, vetwork, socialising etc.. Have no room for fostering but will help any other way.
23. How about one of these ?? Free on all Classifieds.. Would help with transport if needed. Greyhounds Requiring A New Loving HomePrice: $ – Location: Royalla, NSW, 2620 Contact: yani Mobile: 0408497191 Phone: 0408497191 I have two retired greyhounds needing a new home. both a very lovable and are great with kids as they have been brought up with my kids around them all the time. one is a black female of about 26kg and the other is a fawn male of about 38kg. they are brother and sister litter mates and would be happy if you wanted them both, but i am just as happy to split them up as long as we can find them a loveing home. both are very affectionate, smart, loveing, kind and loyal dogs that would suit either a family, a couple or a single person. OR Jack RUSSELLPrice: $ Free Contact: Ian Mobile: 0409378606 Female, desexed 7y Great with childern Think the greyhounds are great for retired people.. great smoochers and usually VERY clean.. Will happily drive people to look at dogs if needed too.. :D
24. Good question really... Most dogs are around $350 ( Covers vet costs.. just) Older dogs who have had vet work done previously could be as low as $150.. That just makes it easier to rehome them.. It's a bit of a hard call at times.. If we make them too cheap they wont get the appreciation they deserve but if too expensive people wont even look.. Shame really when the pet shop sells pups for around $ 1000 with only minimal vet work.. Again it really depends on what support the rescue group has and how much the vet fees are.. We cant always run at a loss and goodwill & donations are often hard to come by.
