Choosing A Dog To Go With Golden Retreiver
goldbaby replied to thomo84's topic in General Dog Discussion
We have a golden retriever and a border collie and they are best of mates -
he doesnt seem to clean up the poop that often, its a concrete area and when i just peeked over the fence there was about 15 poos on the cement. Our dogs do fairly substantial poops so will add a few to the pile in the morning, Also threw back 2 VB cans this afternoon, grrrr
-
I just went out the front and flicked 4 poops over that were new since this morning, he will run over them with his car when he pulls in the driveway

So we have been having some issues with the neighbours Staffy and his owner. We have 2 dogs, 1 Border Collie and 1 Golden Retriever, high secure fences and well socialised dogs who get plenty of exercise and attention. The couple of issues we have are: 1. Every morning the neighbour lets his staffy out the front off lead while he gets his car ready for work. Without fail, every single time, the dog will come and poop on my front lawn. I have caught him doing this sooooo many times and I shoo him home if he hasnt already gone but he will still go and poo on the other neighbours lawn too. This is an older dog who doesnt like young kids (I have 3) and while the dog has never come near our kids and my kids know to stay away, the constant check of poop is so annoying as our kids like to play in the front yard and this dog has poop everywhere, not just 1 pile, 3 or 4. We have tried to speak to the neighbour and he is usually good for a week or so in picking it all up, but he still happily lets the dog out and then it poops again. 2. This dog lives in a space of about 3x2 metres on concrete right against our fence. Our dogs naturally want to go over and say hello and this then starts his dog barking its head off, and howling. Its obviously bored but its not barking in a friendly way, my dogs hear the barking and come straight away from the fence and tend to actually stay away from the fence so I know they arent doing anything to make the dog bark more. The dog is also trying to dig under the fence where there is a small strip of dirt and can get half his head under, we have filled the hole countless times, put gravel and bricks and then it digs again. we have spoken to the owner about this too but he says well i guess he is bored and wants to play. If the dog is bored, spend time with it!! We have now fenced off that entire section of the fence the entire length and I doubt the dog will ever fit fully under but didnt want our dogs encouraging or making the dog hole bigger! 3. This guy regularly has parties (no big deal) but the problem is the beer cans and bottles that get thrown over the fence. Last week we took 3 cans off our GR who loves to chew ANYTHING and EVERYTHING and we were monitoring him to make sure he hadnt swallowed any metal. I know we can keep the dogs inside when he has his parties, but he has friends over at any time of day or night and I am sick of finding rubbish in our yard. Any ideas on how to make this guy actually listen, getting a bit sick of talking to him when it goes in one ear and out the other.

Our poor golden boy suffered really badly from hotspots a few weeks ago, he has almost fully healed, we got him a Kong Cloud - he seemed comfortable in it, was able to eat drink etc. The following morning it was off and in a million pieces on the loungeroom floor - not so indestructable in this house!
-
We have been bathing his head in a Betadine solution the vet told us to use and he has taken his antibiotics and cream this morning. We might go to the pet food warehouse and have a look for a different food, as a Golden Retriever he is a typical hoover and will eat whatever food we put in front of him so Im not worried about giving him something new. We will give him some chicken and rice until then
-
He is on Bonnie and raw food, we just put the creams and powders on and he just whimpered, poor boy also his head feels quite warm to touch, is that normal?
-
Our dog Chase (golden retriever) has just been to the vet with what we thought was a tiny spot on his head, we assumed he had hit his head on the underneath of the trampoline and had a small cut. Hubby just bought him home and his whole head has been shaved down to his neck and he has approx 6 hot spots brewing under the hair! We had no idea he had these, and we are all over him every day. He is on antibiotics, and a special powder and cream the question is if there is anything extra we can give him or put on him to make him more comfortable? Are there any dietary things that could help?

it would have been even better if he got it inside then emptied the water out on her floor!!

That was so clever! obviously well trained dogs!

Other Ways To Transport Puppy Home By Car Other Then A Crate?
goldbaby replied to Nadine83's topic in Puppy Chat
we bought Chase home in a washing basket with an old towel in it, I sat in the back with him while OH drove and he slept the whole way home! mind you he doesnt fit in a washing basket now, and hes only been home 2 weeks! -
Chase has settled in really well, he sleeps through from about 11-7am when the kids wake him up. He cries a bit at night when we put him in the crate but he settles after 10 or so minutes although some nights it feels like heaps longer! Last night we left the radio on low for him near the crate and OH and I were having a chuckle as he settled really quickly listening to Love Song Dedications! The sun is back and shining today so am hoping to get some more photos of him outside playing on the grass!

Here is a picture of Chase, we brought him home on Sunday and he is a delight!

Leaving in 5 minutes to go and get Chase! I'm so excited!!!

we got an email from the breeder last night, looks like we get to bring Chase home this Saturday instead of the following Saturday! We are so excited!! I'm attempting to try and join photobucket so I can upload some photos stay tuned.....

I dont know how to upload pictures! We went to Petbarn today and spent the odd $350ish dollars on things (not to mention things Ive already bought and stashed away!!)

Well we went to visit the puppies at the breeders last night, and it was an hour of puppy heaven!!! They are all so adorable, they are beautiful beautiful pups and all so similar in nature and markings, its so hard to choose! We also had almost fully decided on the name Memphis - but then when we saw him in person we both went "He's not a Memphis". So now we are likely 97% sure I would say this time, we will call him Chase. Come on 2 weeks, go past quickly!!

we are going to puppy visit tomorrow afternoon! I'm soooo excited!!!!
-
Huga - what kind of pup are you getting? Is it a frenchie? very cute ribbon! did you make a lead out of it? I cannot wait until Friday afternoon, we get to go visit the pups and have cuddles and photos and play with them! yay!!
-
i like rumour too! I reckon its easier to name a girl puppy!
-
its so difficult isnt it?! I tried to convince OH we should get 2 so we can use 2 names, he wasnt buying it! hahaha What 2 names have you narrowed down to?

Hi everyone! We are waiting not so patiently for our new golden retriever baby! We are getting a little boy and its only about 2 1/2 weeks away now. We are going to visit on Friday night then we pick him up on 26th March. We need some help with name suggestions, we cannot agree on anything! and are trying to steer clear of all the suggestions from the kids on naming it after their favourite tv character! So far we have Max Baxter Byron Harvey Memphis Please give me some more ideas!!
