  1. Kirislin I love Pucks chocolate velvety ears! Stan has the "seagull" ears :)
  2. Stormy I don't like collars left on either and I did say this to my vet. These would break fairly easily if caught on something though.
  3. Maddie has perfect greyhound ears
  4. My greyhounds both get itchy from Advantix spot on that I had previously used on my RidgebackX with excellent results. I have been told by many greyhound people not to use tick collars but my vet has just stocked this new one Scalibor which he said was safe to use on them so I'm going to try them. The best thing is they are odourless because the others stink at first. http://www.scalibor-usa.com/
  5. Staffy types and SWF's galore. Two stunning Dobes and two beautiful Vizlas I've watched grow up from pups, they'd be about 18 months now.
  6. The photos are just divine as usual Kirislin. How long until she comes home?
  7. The ceramic inserts from crock pots. They are heavy enough not to knock over, easy to clean and only a couple of bucks from the op-shop.
  8. One kick and most dogs would take off I agree but what about the greyhound that was killed here last month? That dog was being kicked by several people and it didn't even flinch. As I said earlier in this thread the only thing that made that dog run was being smashed with a fire extinguisher and even then it took a while for it to give up, by that time the greyhound was dead on the road in front of it's distraught owner. I am one of those that is not happy for a dog to say hello, I like Kirty do not want dogs approaching mine and I have TWO dogs to defend. I don't want to have to lift any dog off mine, I don't want to have to assess a situation I just want to take them for a bloody walk! SM any incident like that is beyond horrible but in reality, it is the rarity as well (thankfully).. You are totally within your rights not to want other dogs to say hi to your dogs - they are your dogs and you can decide that. Unfortunately not everyone in the community will respect that - it is the times we live in. All I can suggest is report the owners and dogs if they keep going and you have asked them not to come close. No one wants to do these things but again, we live in a world that has very little respect for other humans - what do they care about someone else's dog.. Report people, search for places you do feel more comfortable walking your dog are all the suggestions I have because in the long run, we can only control OUR dogs and what we do - we have no control over other people and what they do with their dogs. Most and I did try to stress MOST dogs, would go with a growly get away and a step towards them.. If that fails then a kick would send the majority of dogs on their way. The dog that attacks and won't stop really is rare when you consider the amount of dogs we have in our community. All we can do, as responsible dog owners is report these dogs.. Personally I would throw my dog up on a car or over a fence (probably not the best idea either) if I thought it would save it from an attacking dog. Yes I agree and not having a go at you SL, the thing is at 50 years of age and riddled with arthritis I would struggle to throw one of my greyhounds over a fence let alone two. My point is why should I? I SHOULD be able to walk my dogs without fear but apparently that is not my right anymore

  10. your attempt at humour just makes me think with every post you write it is such a true saying...you don't have to have a long neck to be a goose
  11. That's greyt WP and I have no doubt he is lovin' life at Chez Winterpaws Any piccies of the handsome old man and Pepe?
  12. Steph I don't know if you know much about greyhounds but they have skin like tissue paper. A friendly dog romping up to play can do something like this with a toenail. Add to that the fact they are muzzled if the s**t hits the fan my dogs WILL be badly hurt so yes I will arm myself and am ALWAYS on high alert. I don't enjoy walks anymore thanks to people that can't obey a simple law and it is very simple, like putting your seatbelt on in a car.
  13. You guys are all amazing so many offers of help. yellowgirl thank you :)
  14. No sadly YG is in SA and Hawkesbury Pound is in Sydney. She's not due for five days but hopefully someone in rescue can help.
  15. That broke my heart too Rosetta, those confused old eyes I have such a soft spot for the oldies Donatella could you share on FB with Pom people please?
  16. You want to use a cattle prod designed for 400kg or more cattle on a 10 to 30kg dog I'm pretty sure it's going to do more than slow the dog down and you're likely to end up with a lawsuit on your hands I would be interested in the legalities of that, if I am walking my onlead muzzled greyhounds and an unrestrained dog is attacking mine (I'm not talking in offlead areas, I don't use them) I will take whatever steps necessary to protect them. The attacking dog owner has broken the law first haven't they? I do sometimes walk with a stick and I will use it, if they want to sue me they can have everything I've got which is two fifths of sweet FA.
  17. Just spotted this dear little old soul in Hawkesbury Pound http://council.hawkesbury.nsw.gov.au/animalshelter/index.php?album=dogsℑ=PCC-587.jpg
  18. I actually like this idea. Many dogs we meet when out and about should certainly not be unmuzzled until their owners can exercise better (or any) control over them. I like the idea as well. My two have not been assessed and to be honest I doubt Maddie would pass, Stan would easily, nothing much worries my Stanley. Trudy as others have said it is a law that has been around for a long time but as more greyhounds are becoming pets most states in Australia now have the Greenhound Programme. The link below tells you a bit about it. http://www.greenhounds.com.au/what-is-a-greenhound.html
  19. As the owner of rescue greyhounds muzzled by law I get some gobsmaking statements. What I find frustrating is the comments from adults when their children ask a simple question like the most common from kids "why do those dogs have cages on their mouths?" Too many to mention but my top five would be 1) They bite 2) They kill things 3) They can't be trusted 4) They are nasty dogs quick come over here! 5) Because they eat children It's unfortunate so many parents have the "great wall of china" mentality, I would think educating your children instead of scaring the crap out of them because of your own ignorance would be paramount
  20. I'm so sorry Jules Run free dear Joey, you were so very loved.
