  1. She always smiles when she's asleep my gorgeous girl :)
  2. As some would know greyhounds are very good at roaching, a name given to the positions they lay in that resembles a dead cockroach, flat on their back...legs in the air but my Maddie is an extreme roacher lol. Some of the positions I see her sound asleep in makes me shake my head thinking how on earth it would be comfortable. Today was one of her best, it looks like someone took the end of her body and stuck it on her shoulder yet there she was, sound asleep yip yipping away. Anyone else got a rubber dog?
  3. The anise section? What section is that? Please enlighten me. I think Megan means the abuse section. Poor bloody dog
  4. 13/52 Greyhounds are known for roaching but Maddie is a rubber dog! I'm amazed at some of the positions she sleeps in.
  5. Yep and that's the thing Steph, unfortunately things happen no matter the age. My friends love my greyhounds but I know for sure not one of them that live here near me would be able to look after them how I want them looked after nor would they want to so they ALL know where my dogs will go. There's no doubt in my mind they know what to do though as I sometimes randomly question them "where will Stan and Maddie go if I cark it?" they reply in a robotic voice " Maddy in Tasmania" lol
  6. Great post RP Kennelling in emergency situations or even short term stays fair enough but dogs that sit in them for years is not on IMO. In the case of greyhounds, people (and rescues) think it's fine because they are used to it...crap...the life of a racing greyhound is not sitting in kennels 23 hours a day and they can go just as mad as any other breed. I do cat testing at a local shelter and have seen greyhounds not coping at all The arguement I get is "oh well at least they're alive" Yes but I don't call that living.
  7. I thought the OP was asking for a dog that would deter intruders not so much as an attacking guard dog :/ I didn't know that about the muzzling laws in NZ Rebanne.
  8. I feel a greyhound would definitely fit the bill, it sounds like a wonderful home. My two don't bark but as I also live alone I feel confident their size alone would put an intruder off, they would be running at said intruder with a stuffed toy each and wouldn't bite them in a million years but I'd like to see him/her try and outrun them  Even friends that come to visit are wary due to their size even though they know they are big love sponges. They suit me too as they are low shedding, have no smell so perfect for indoor living, and while Stan struggles to walk around the block, Maddie is like the energiser bunny that would walk with you for miles so they are all different. As Rebanne said with GAP in NZ you may be able to foster first and just see if a greyhound is for you. Just beware though, they are addictive and you won't be able to stop at one :p Good luck in your search.
  9. There was an interesting thread on this a while ago and there was a member with a legal background that gave some really good advice. I'm hopeless at finding old threads so hopefully someone else will find it for you. I don't have any family and I know none of my friends that live here would take my greyhounds so they will be going to a trusted friend in Tasmania.
  10. Love this trifecta! For some reason it looks like an American cottage, I think I watch way too much American Pickers on TV lol Congrats Kuma on your gorgeous bub :)
  11. Sounds like a great home, she sounds a bit like me except the lonely bit :)
  12. 12/52 Sunset from my loungeroom window over Terrigal Beach.
  13. I don't know if this is clear enough Stan wouldn't wake up but rear left foot of a greyhound. As you can see they look like kangaroo feet and believe me if you get kicked in the kidneys in bed in the middle of the night by these babies you know you're alive
  14. They couldn't buy Stan for ALL the money in China :) Stanley...priceless.
  15. Yes I wondered that as well :/ ViszlaMomma I took your post as hoping it to be a Doler so you could see updates on this unusual breed it would be good if we could.
  16. They can get adopted that quickly though. I went up and cat tested a greyhound for Greyhound Haven Tasmania at Tuggerah RSPCA last month and left 40 mins before closing. The next day the dog was gone from the website as someone had walked in 5 minutes after I left and adopted her.
  17. Oh yes I remember seeing him on GT, lovely looking dog. He's still entire.
  18. Brilliant well done I love it when that happens, a bit like our Ruby the whippet now living out her days in luxury :D
  19. Oh my gapvic what gorgeous happy faces!
  20. Chinderah is so pretty, I bought my electric bike from a happy woman at the caravan park office :D Chinderah is lovely and lots of caravan parks! I was the unofficial courtesy bus as I used to drive all the drunks home after my shift lol
  21. Heaps of cheap rentals around Tweed Heads and when I lived up there, albeit 10 years ago, they were very pet friendly. As Boronia said look around Chinderah and Cudgen, I used to work at the Chinderah Pub and the Dolphins Hotel :) , or even Murwillumbah, Clothiers Creek. Only 30 mins to Tweed. I lived at Cabarita at the time and still have friends at Kingscliff but a quick look at rentals shows that area isn't cheap these days.
  22. I don't feel sorry for her at all. A chiX chained to a crappy little plastic kennel at night in a known area of snakes, she's an idiot and the poor little dog paid the price for her stupidity.
