  1. Oh wow I'm keeping my fingers crossed for this one Any chance of posting a pic of him here Melz? I do love the oldies.
  2. That is a great idea, if they do one in Perth I will see if I can bring Ronin along Of course! all dogs welcome, it just shows how many people support greyhounds. Hmmmm I'm going to put some serious thought into this and contact some media outlets, radio, papers, TV. Social media will be the one to spread the word I'm sure Every Greyhound on Facebook will promote it for me. I'm gunna need some help!
  3. I wish we could organise a walk on one particular date in every town and city across Australia. Greyhound owners walking through the streets with media coverage showing people our beautiful dogs.
  4. I'd love to go Gapvic but the Seymour one is too far for us and the Fitzroy one is a bit late in the day to be travelling into the city and back for me. Plus it's going to be 35 degrees...again
  5. What a way to start my day with those gorgeous photos Kirty Who's the last dog? :/
  6. Plenty of room Rebanne  I get to sleep sideways in this gap in the middle of the bed sometimes. Notice Maddie's two metre stuffed crocodile that she refuses to sleep without? Ain't much room at the inn I can tell you lol
  7. Yay love the gorgeous Frida CC I was hoping you would post I also have greyhounds tattooed on my foot :) Come on greyhound peeps, bring out your hounds!
  8. love it. Commonly called the roach in the greyhound world Yonjuro as in dead cockroach. Maddie is a champion at it and has no qualms about flashing her bits to all and sundry
  9. I don't use it but a friend just sent me this link so I thought I'd share. For large dogs expiry date 6/2015. https://www.budgetpetproducts.com.au/new/index.php?productID=5886
  10. Yeah well you can take the girl outta Gosford but you can't take the Gosford outta the girl
  11. Most greyhounds make the transition from kennel to couch quite easily. They do feel the extremes in weather so a nice warm coat in winter will be appreciated by the hound... so will a fan in summer...
  12. Oh photos? Did you say photos? The greyhound, the most ancient and noble of breeds..... Huh Got any food?
  13. Thanks BCC :D Stan is certainly one of a kind  Thank you Yonjuro for starting a lovely thread with positive stories from others about my breed that I adore
  14. Poor Stan! Did he have a puzzled look, 'Why did that fence attack me?' Boofy the rescued grey next door was good coming to answer his name from sleeping on the couch or watching TV. We'd call his name at the fenceline... & there'd be a long pause...then Boofy would appear, plodding like a mastiff instead of a greyhound. He loved a pat & a talk. Then he'd plod off back to his couch. He was still a baby, only 3 years old & huge. He was rescued from being shot because he was hopeless at running. He wasn't flash at walking, either. :) Everyone adored him! He was millimetres from being killed instantly. Sounds like Boofy is related to Stanley, exercise is not on the top of his list of things to do lol
  15. No, you didn't say other things. What you did say is above and it's an abominable comment, I was ashamed to even read it. To quote you, verbatim, "They didn't think that far ahead, they didn't think about where dogs will go if the industry was shut down completely they still have NFI. Gone Are The Dogs posted this morning "what happens to the dogs now?" Should've thought about that earlier hey?" The campaigners have "NFI"? You mean the people appalled by live baiting, doping, unfathomable "wastage", cheating, money laundering, various other criminal activity not to mention that board members are being caught out, ex-stewards have been involved in live-baiting and self regulation is a joke. You mean those people have "NFI"? Tell me, what do you think of the public's outrage about this issue? I stand by my comment. I feel your comments ware entirely inappropriate to make on a dog forum, especially in a thread discussing the cruelty perpetrated against animals... and I never called you names. And I stand by mine soooooo round and round we go. Unless the mods think my comment above was inappropriate, to which they would then delete it because they can, how you feel about it means jack to me really.
  16. Now, I don't respect the breed? Will it ever end? Where have I implied that? Er, it is right there above. If I can't respect the breed, implies I don't respect the breed. Oh, that's right, I haven't. Nice work there, cutting and pasting quotes to make it look like I said something I didn't. This is what I was replying to- And I'm sure you were aware of that. But whatever, I'm not feeding the crazy any further. Oh, I am sorry. The first part of your post was ambiguous. Now I am "crazy". Sorry, is that bullying behaviour? Is that even allowed on DOL? Why all the personal attacks? Did you go to character assassination school or have you completed a course on maligning reputations? It is telling that for all of the suggestions of how to improve the welfare of animals I have made in this thread, you haven't picked up on a single one. And yet you have made so many wrong assumptions and aired them on a public forum in an effort to belittle me. And in this whole thread, how many characterisations have you made about people who are actually cruel to animals - you know, those people in the Greyhound Racing Industry featuring so prominently in the media lately? To me, that speaks to your true character. Pot....kettle.
  17. Besides the usual things like my lounge, two single bed mattresses, lamps way too many things to list Stan really out did himself when he trashed my fridge and freezer *sigh* the kids got issues lol
  18. Exactly! It was quite disappointing to see people on greyhound walks in two states over the weekend to "promote" the breed in the wake of the 4 Corners programme walking their greys unmuzzled and not green collared. If you want to walk your dog unmuzzled then go and get it assessed A friend called me today and told me about a few greys that got a leeeeetle bit too excited at the beach and attacked a small dog last week, they have been reported and so they should be...not one of these greys were green collared. What people don't realise that especially now when the spotlight is on greyhounds more than ever deciding they are above the law could very well see the green collar programme revoked at any time, how is that fair on the people that have paid to do the right thing?
  19. But see greyhounds aren't the "same as any dog" they are the fastest dog on the planet and nothing on this earth will out run a determined greyhound, except in Stan's case being a fence and a fractured skull. Add to that most of them have terrible recall.
  20. Exactly this. The temperament assessment we use acts as a guide as to what home the dog would be best suited to. Will a dog fail our assessment for resource guarding? No - not unless he actually tries to attack us. But what this part of our assessment does show us is that if he growls when we come near him when he is eating, then he's probably not suitable for a home with small children who won't understand to leave him alone when he has his dinner. Greyt did you even bother to read Gapvic's post concerning resource guarding?
  21. Yes to all of the above. My Maddie would never pass assessment and so she shouldn't she is very dog aggressive. As a responsible owner she will always be muzzled first and foremost for her own safety and for the safety of all things small and furry in the world. If I, like many do, just refused to muzzle her and she attacked another dog I have put her at risk of being PTS PLUS especially right now while we as grey owners are trying to promote the breed, walking her unmuzzled would just be blatent stupidity. Maddie is not the type of greyhound for the first time grey owner and if they just flipped the bird to the muzzling laws she would be in all sorts of trouble and so would they.
  22. No, you didn't say other things. What you did say is above and it's an abominable comment, I was ashamed to even read it. To quote you, verbatim, "They didn't think that far ahead, they didn't think about where dogs will go if the industry was shut down completely they still have NFI. You mean those people have "NFI"? Tell me, what do you think of the public's outrage about this issue? What? Are you part of the GRDBOIT cult are you? The very ones that insist every single greyhound is rehomable? The ones that slandered my name all over the AA pages because I don't believe every greyhound is rehomable (like any other breed) and called me a dog killer because I still stand by that? Those people? What do I think of the publics outrage? I'm as filthy as they are. So you tell me...what happens to the dogs...now, today if greyhound racing in this country is shut down immediately? To answer your questions: No, I am not affiliated in any way with the above group or any activist group. I am an individual concerned about the mass disposal of unwanted Greyhounds and abhorrent training practices including live baiting and doping and poor nutrition. Do I believe that every Grey is re-homable? I don't have enough experience to answer that. My *opinion* is that Greyhounds have shown in study after study to be amongst the least likely of all breeds to attack humans. My opinion is that the assessment programs are overly onerous and have some just silly elements eg, why is there a need to test only Greyhounds around how they react when approached when eating? Are the authorities worried that Greyhounds are routinely fed when out walking and if they are approached, they will become aggressive? Some of the scenarios included in the tests are too silly for me to even think about. As a group, only Greyhounds are routinely subjected to a code of practice that enables trainers to keep them in tiny cages for 20+ hours per day and thanks to media reports, we have seen some trainers live baiting and doping so how is the dog supposed to develop "normally" in the way that other dog breeds that are raised as pets are? My opinion is that if there are Greyhounds that should not be re-homed, it has nothing to do with the breed and everything to do with the way they have been treated by their trainers... you know, industry people. Those charged with the dogs welfare. Those subjected to stringent industry regulations. I have seen the joyfulness with which young Greyhounds live their lives before they are broken in. I have seen and experienced the changes that ex-racing greyhounds undergo when transitioning to pet life and the progress that they make is truly remarkable. I have seen ex-racing dogs whose life's greatest pleasure is to meet a new human and to eagerly make friends with other dogs of all breeds. I know of ex-racing dogs being used as therapy dogs, bringing joy to the lives of elderly and infirm people. I know that Greyhounds make wonderful pets for all sorts of people, some that can't provide too much exercise, some that don't like too much hair and some that don't like that doggy smell. I know Greyhounds are well suited to apartments, duplexes and small houses. So what I think is that Greyhounds are suited to a variety of people living in a variety of situations and with a variety of lifestyles. Nobody can answer your last question. My best guess would be that most Greyhounds would be made to disappear. So very much like happens with a Greyhound industry but in much greater numbers. The rescues would be inundated. The breeding programs would cease. Punters would punt. Many in the industry would try to get involved with horses. My guess is that over the coming years, you would not see the over breeding and subsequent mass disposal of wonderful, healthy dogs, you wouldn't see cruelty such as live baiting, You wouldn't see healthy dogs fed an unhealthy diet filled with supplements n the name of winning, You wouldn't see the cheating, doping, money laundering, corrupt officials... It would be a nicer world to live in. Thank you for asking. Many in the industry would try to get involved with horses?? Do you have any idea how much money is involved in owning a thoroughbred racehorse? I do not agree with you so I will leave it there.

  24. what just stand by and accept that gross animal cruelty and cheating is part of the greyhound racing industry?????? THe very fact that there are big identities and people of influence caught up in this will be more of a blow to the credibility of greyhound racing than anything else. perhaps the BLAME need to be slated exactly where it belongs on the shoulders of the bastards who for money and, it would seem, pleasure broke not only the regulation of their own organisation but also the laws of the state. with the HUGE numbers of greys being bred this appalling tragedy was just waiting to happen.... and now the greys will be the first to suffer as a result of the fallout. on friday i went to collect feed at a local produce store where the owners were whining about how unfair all the fuss was, it was all labors fault, the owners were just starting to make decent money, blah blah blah.. so big mouth here put in her two cents worth about why the sympathy with people who had knowingly cheated, knowingly broken the law of the state, knowingly disregarded the regulation of their own organisation? now they think i am nuts and i did not even yell. just venting a bit H Where did I say that the cruelty of the racing industry was acceptable? The fact is there are thousands of racing dogs that would need homes if racing was shut down tomorrow and if I turned up on your doorstep tomorrow with half a dozen homeless hounds would you take them? Maybe you would but the hundreds of thousands of people screaming blue murder behind their keyboards would not. I have grown up in a racing family, my father was a bookmaker I am well aware of what goes on so what do I do? I have two adopted greys myself, have fostered many, have driven many miles doing transports of greys on death row in pounds, have done blanket and food drives for greyhound rescue orgs, organised fundraising events yet ask people that are screaming in capslock what THEY are going to do and its *crickets*. As Maddy posted "outrage is free, helping is not" I gave a guy in a pub on Friday a spray when I overheard a stupid comment and then walked away shaking my head, I'm sure they thought I was nuts as well. As I have always said the over breeding of greyhounds needs to stop that's JMO and yes....I am just venting a bit as well.
