  1. trinabean, Yes it is certainly a puzzle that's for sure. What is rigmarole? Once we relocate in 2 weeks to wa I will slowly methodically start from scratch and do probiotics, slippery elm, metamucil etc and see if we can get her settled in the long term. This has been a good thread this time. Previously I haven't had such good imput for whatever reason. Hope you pooch is able to move forward too. It's really concerning not knowing what you can feed.
  2. Yes, but there are other considerations as well as oates do also contain gluten as well. But generally speaking grain free means wheat free which is the main offender of gluten and particularly the one that affects animals and humans.
  3. Yeah, the supercoat sensative I think works for us as it's gluten free.
  4. Found the above presso very interesting. Just checked the ingredients on supercoat sensative which is the only kibble that Koda seems to tolerate. Only grains in it are rice and sorghum which are gluten free compared with other kibbles we have tried. In the presso Karen mentions gluten free not just grain free which is the first time I've had that mentioned which makes it even a bit clearer to what you are looking for in a kibble regarding grains. Thank you for linking this presso Echo. I have also sent it to a staff member of a dog kennel that presently have a couple of dogs they can't finger out and get to not have the runs. She straight away asked for a copy as well when the dogs sounded similar to mine and that this info might help them sort them out. Thank you.
  5. Very interesting reading. I definitely will be doing the protexin and slippery elm as suggested in the link. I will also remove the gluten aspect as well and see how that goes too. Of course step by step as well so we don't upset her too much.
  6. Thanks. I am checking it out now. I do feed twice a day as that was previously suggested to put less load on the gut. I think I will be trying out the protexin then some slippery elm too....has anyone here used the thrive D product as well with dogs that had dodgy stomachs?
  7. Vets initially suspected EPI but due to her recovering from these upsets quickly back to solid stools quickly it is suspected that she is sensative to a few things which causes her to get inflamed....possible IBS reaction. We have found removing lamb, beef and fat from her diet that she generally is ok. I think I messed her diet up trying to bring things back into her diet. I just feel bad she is so limited. Yep won't be trying too many things at a time. I will be doing one at a time. Hopefully one of these things will even out her insides so she can be more tolerant. It all started when I moved her to more expensive dog food. Why I do not know but that is when it became an issue. SO i am keen to try some probiotics to see if it's a gut flora issue.
  8. Thats it, Enzyplex was the one I couldn't remember....I would like to know how people have found it as well. I think Koda has enjoyed being spoilt by being in out of the heat today....she's cheeky that way.
  9. Well we ended up at the vets this morning after finding blood in the motions this morning. Took a sample so they could see. Have had samples tested before. She has a temp so is on antibiotics and was given a shot of anti-inflammatories to help the temp. Once she is stable again I will just keep her on the kibble until we move in 2 weeks as she has to be boarded. Once moved I will test out Protexin. After the antibiotics I will give her some inner health plus as I have that. Probably will try some slippery elm after we move as well to help her. How much do you feed them? Has anyone tried thrive D and the enzyme one from the same company as well? I'm opting for naturual if I can. The vet said she is in good condition for a dog with stomach issues so if we can just get a handle on it would be a relief.
  10. Haven't heard of this one. Do you know where you can get it.
  11. Mmmm....not sure what to do with my Koda. Last week or so she got the runs, starved her then she was fine. In the last week she got it a bit again then she was ok. Yesterday she had to be crated for quite a while then in the afternoon she got them again. Have starved her over night but this morning she is going a bit still. I'm not sure why she's unstable again. Not sure if I should wait till monday to take her to the vet. A little bit more axious about it as of the 5/12 she has to go into boarding for 17 days then fly to WA. Not sure if the chicken frame she had had a little too much fat in it and that set her off or if she needs some drugs to relieve the stomach again. Such a puzzle it's driving me insane. Does anyone know if you can give them inner health capsules to help the stomach flora. I don't have any other probiotic. She seems to be an IBS/allergy dog.
  12. Freundhund, if you can find that article would be great. Yep, we will have a shell pool for her and when we are home she will be in and out of the house to the aircon. She is still young, mad chewer so she may be outside while during school hours on days I work. But will provide lots of shade etc for her. We may crate her inside if that's cooler then out. We have her crated at night so she is used to it. No, I'm not greatly wanting to clip her but it was suggested to me so I thought I would ask the people in the know what everyone thought. I thought perhaps it maybe of benefit being so hot and dogs like GSD's arent from tropic areas is all...would definitely not let my dog get sunburt that's for sure. I thought it would be better to leave the fur as well. We will be home for some weeks after we move which will be good for her to aclimitize to it as well as ourselves for that matter. We try to keep her on the thinner side as much as possible as a general rule for good health too.
  13. Hi guys, I have a quick query. We are moving to Karratha WA soon and it'a already approaching 40 degrees there. What does everyone think about clipping the fur of a GSD? Is it a good thing to do in such a hot place, does it make them more comfy, is there any reasons that you shouldn't? I can't even imagine what a clipped GSD looks like! When I did a quick search I hardly found anything on the net but did see something about you shouldn't. Feed back would be great.
  14. Danois, that's what I was mainly concerned with at the airport that it's indoors, noisy and not really suited to long stays. I will be looking at all quotes as suggested. Money isn't a real issue besided forking out upfront as we will be reimbursed the cost for relocating as we are moving due to the Defence Force. Has anyone got any bad experiences from things getting messed up when the service provider has to pick up from a Kennel not partnered to them, missing flights etc.
  15. Hi, just wanting peoples reviews/experiences. We are moving and will need to fly our GSD to WA. I like JetPets as I have only heard good things about them. We will need to board for more then 2 weeks before flying. JetPets board at airport with Hanrob which is more expensive. We could board at Adelar but then would have to arrange pickup by jetpets. Skypets also work out of Adelar. Does anyone have an opinion on either of these service providers and has anyone boarded at the airport Hanrob facility? Thanks.
  16. I general do as above in place as far back as possible, hold mouth shut until swallowed. If we have to do pills each day for some illness and I am getting resistance, I choose something I know she loves and will swallow instantly...I can just use fresh mince for this. I make a small ball with the mince and put the pill in the middle. then entice so she really wants to gulp it so she doesn't find it....and tadah! Down it does.
  17. Thanks Tobster, will keep it in my favourites for future reference. Thanks everyone will check out the deal with 3yr vaccines and the sites. I most likely will buy 12 months worth of heart worming products before we go as well.
  18. Hi, can't feed blackhawke as it's lamb based....doesn't work for Koda. We currently feed supercoat sensative as it's been the only kibble that she tolerates so far....proplan, artemis etc gave her the runs and a vet trip. We do feed raw as well. Yes I was glad to see Leonards had recently opened up as she is good on chicken and chick frames. She will be due to be vacc before we go so we will be doing that here. Good tip to perhaps buy up on the heartworm combos too. I know at the very least coles stocks the supercoat Sensative. She's good on fresh salmon so other fish should be fine too. Yeah it seems all prices are bad over there....and they say sydney is expensive....lol....no we are looking forward to it and getting back into fishing and camping. Is there any concern with the brown tick besides being annoying....nothing to worry about otherwise are they?
  19. Yep, cut the amount down. Perhaps the amount is too high and as suggested lesson the chicken wing. Perhaps buy her a leaner cut of chicken for the meantime if you want some fresh in the diet too. My shepherd dropped alot of weight on the proplan WM but I was pretty tough on him as well. If I didn't see the weight coming off I would drop a bit more food until I could see a change....not quickly then kept it at that until he was back to where he was suppose to be then on a senior kibble once stable. Just remember when you feel those brown eyes on you willing you for treat that you are being kind not cruel for fixing the weight issue....good luck with your weight watchers
  20. Thanks guys will check them out. If anyone has any others please post. Thanks.
  21. Hi all, Just wondering if someone knows a good petfood/supply online site that delivers to Karratha wa. We are moving there in December and there's not much in town for pets food or supplies. Thanks.
  22. Recommend K9pro. Friend used them for a dog with over the top dog to dog aggression. Huge improvement.
  23. Brad, once you have stabilised her you maybe able to then get small bags or samples to try her on very slowly and slowly narrow down one that works. I had to do that with mine as it was suggested that we had to go to prescription ones as well and I simply found for my girl anything with lamb was out and any of the expensive ones didn't work for mine. I tried SuperCoat sensative on a hunch after reading ingredients and people having dogs with allergies tolerating this one. I prefer a better brand of course but it works for her so she will now stay on that for sometime before we try a better one in some months time. Hopefully you will find something that works for yours soon too.
