Foster Carer Found! For Burnt Bull Terrier
Life Of Riley replied to BMAK's topic in General Dog Discussion
Latest update on this girl is I have just spoken to Dog Rescue Newcastle and she will be coming to Melbourne next week so I can foster her, if you would like to make a donation to help with tranport costs please make your donations to Dog Recue Newcastle. http://www.dogrescuenewcastle.com.au/ She is doing well with her current carers but still has quite a way to go. If any rescue groups in Melbourne can help with rehoming once she is better please PM me. I will give another update once she is here. Thanks for the support!! -

This girl needs to stay in the area for 8 days and then could be transported to me in Melbourne. I will speak to Newcastle Rescue later in the week and see how she is doing. -
Foster Carer Found! For Burnt Bull Terrier
Life Of Riley replied to BMAK's topic in General Dog Discussion
I have emailed Dog Rescue Newcastle with my details, I will speak to them and see if they think she can be transported to Melbourne and if they think I can give her an appropriate foster home. They might find someone closer to their location but if they can't and she can be transported I would be happy to help this beautiful girl. -
Foster Carer Found! For Burnt Bull Terrier
Life Of Riley replied to BMAK's topic in General Dog Discussion
If she can be transported to Melbourne i can take her until she has healed. I am a vet nurse with an empty boarding kennel, my OH won't let me keep her permanently but if a rescue group could take her once she is better he has said ok. I would need some help with transport costs though. -
Heartworm Prevention In Dogs
Life Of Riley replied to Blakbelgian's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
We use the proheart injections on our big dogs over 50kg, most of the tablets/spot on's only go upto 50kg and I refuse to use two. Then we use comfortis for fleas on the Newfie and Drontal worming tablets every 3 months. My dog under 40kg gets Advocate and a Tapeworm tablet every 3 months. -
The report doesn't stipulate whether this was an on lead or off lead area. I understand that owners should have effective control over their dog at all times, but giving benefit of the doubt this may have been an off lead area and the dog may have just gone and said hello as the report stated. I would never let my own dogs off lead even at an off lead area and I agree that the dog should not have approached someone if it was under effective control, but someone stabbing a dog or person is completely unacceptable and I hope the person is arrested and thrown in jail.

Life Of Riley replied to capanash's topic in General Dog Discussion
I am applying for this program as well in the Mornington peninsula area. I am seeing a lady at dog school on Sunday that has gone through all the testing with her dogs and is now in the program, I will ask her what is involved in the testing and let you know Sunday :D -
What Do You Do In The Dog World?
Life Of Riley replied to Leelaa17's topic in General Dog Discussion
I am a Vet Nurse and I am just about to open boarding kennels in about 3 - 4 months time. I may also be doing public speaking with one of my dogs at primary schools promoting responsible pet ownership if she passes all the tests in the next few weeks. I do obedience classes on Sundays and occasionally show my Newfie. Full time mum to a nearly 2 year old, housekeeper, cook, cleaner and gardener. -
I have a Newfie who is nearly a year old, she sleeps inside at night but during the day she has an xxlarge kennel but we are now up grading to a cubby house as she likes to share with our Wolfhound X and it is getting a bit too small for both of them. I would check ebay for a cubby house or giant kennel, you might pick up a bargain

I travelled 12 hours each way to get my Newfoundland pup and a 5 hour drive each way through floods to get my wolfhound x rescue. Everyone thought I was nuts as well

Would you consider an older dog? You could contact the Labrador club and see if there are any rescue dogs, they generally have at least basic training and you would just need to build on that, rather than going through all the toilet training, chewing ect We got a rescue when my pup was 7 months old, it actually helped with training my pup especially recall and they are best friends ;) My rescue was only 18 months old when we got her and had had a pretty rough start to life she is such a wonderful dog will do anything for a pat and is so grateful and happy with anything we do for her.

Anyone Do Any Water Training Here
Life Of Riley replied to newfsie's topic in General Dog Discussion
I only want to do it for fun, unless properly trained it could be dangerous for the dogs to rescue people. There are clubs in America, UK, Canada & Europe but none in Australia. -

I have pet insurance for all 3 of my dogs and for me it has been very well worth it. In the last 6 months alone i have claimed over $6000 in vet bills and surgery. Since having insurance it has easily paid itself off and more. My 10 month old Newfie has racked up enough bills that the savings i have made would cover her policy for 10 years. You also have the peace of mind of being able to go to a specialist for complicated surgeries. I have never had any problems with my claims the money is in my account very quickly. I wouldn't reccomend any particular one, best to do your own research and work out what is best for you.

I used to have floorboards and I loved them, didn't bother with rugs with my newfie, rotti and wolfhound X i would need them steam cleaned way too often, just threw the dog beds on the floor boards, vacuum and mop them every day (Yes I have a little OCD). Unfortunately our new place has carpet in most rooms so I end up steam cleaning them every month, the dogs get bathed at least 1-2 times a week but we are now on acreage and they get filthy easily.

Elbow Problems - Golden Retriever
Life Of Riley replied to falconer20's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
I had a similar problem with my Newfie girl at 6 months old, x rays didn't show much so went straight to the specialists (Luckily I have pet insurance ended up being over $5000) CT Scans an edoscopy showed inflamation they flushed out the joint in case any flecks of cartledge had come loose to cause the inflammation strict rest for 3 weeks and then gradually started exercise over the next few weeks and she was back to 100% Hope all goes well for you
