I'm yet to find a food execpt for raw that agrees with Missy, Can someone please explain how will a dog just feed meat/bones and organs have that nice shiny soft coat? This is why I gave my dogs eggs and flaxseed oil as I don't think meat/bones and organs would do it. As I said raw is new to me.

potatoes compared to wheat, rice, oats, corn. I think potatoes are better then wheat and corn will ever be. The only way you will get a complete grain free food is to feed raw.
-
The only grain free kibble I can get here is earthborn holistic. If I were to go for totw or canidae I would have to get it online and I'm not too keen on that, altho probably get it cheaper online its just the hassle of having to wait till it arrives.

I don't get paid till tommorrow I'm looking at all food I can get here locally from petstock or pets domain. I can get Iams, eukenaba, royal canin, pro plan, earthborn holistic, advance, hills science diet (which I wouldn't like to feed), I can also get dr Bs barf patties. I'm really looking at food that doesn't contain alot of grains mainly corn I don't like.

she tryed the earthborn coastal catch but wouldn't eat it, don't think she liked the fish in it, the primitive is chicken, turkey and fish. I'm going to be tougher on her either she eats this kibble or goes without, A healthy dog will not strave themselfs if food is offered to them. This whippet would prefer to eat cat, bird poo then her kibble.
-
I'll prefer to feed earthborn holisticgrain free primitive then royal canin, earthborn holistic primitive sounds like a better kibble then royal canin as it don't have wheat and all those other grains.

How on earth did you reach a conclusion that she is allergic to lamb??? Well before i put her on black hawk she was getting optimum puppy chicken and rice and raw mince meat chicken or chicken and roo and some beef. The bad gas only started since putting her on black hawk lamb and rice, So if she didn't have bad gas on chicken and rice kibble but had bad gas on lamb and rice I suspected it too be the lamb. Plus black hawk is a better quailty kibble then optimum.

a turkey leg is a meal for one of my nearly 40 kilo greyhounds, way too much for a whippet. Shelley my golden retriever gets a turkey leg. Missy my whippet gets turkey wing.
-
I'll be interested in the chicken and rice black hawk have a whippet here who can't tolerate lamb. When wil the chicken and rice be aviable to buy? also will it be the same price as the lamb and rice?

Missy is 10.5 months old she has been on black hawk since she was 7 months old. So she was eatting black hawk for 3 months, The bad gas only started happening since I started feeding black hawk. Even when I got her at 12 weeks old she wasn't very keen on kibble kept having to encourge her to eat it, The most she will eat in kibble is 3/4 cup and still at times she will only eat half then leave the rest. If she doesn't eat I do not give her anything else I make her go hungry. Missy is great no more vomiting is back to normal, I was planing on only feeding earthborn holistic primative natural grain free to Missy. The other dogs can still be feed black hawk as they have no worries with that, I may try the chicken and rice black hawk when it comes out. Earthborn holistic grain free is quite expensive for the 6.8kg bag it will cost me $80 from petstock. My sister hasn't taken Misty to the vets she is now putting on weight a week ago she weighed 9.8kg on monday she weighed 10.2kg. Hopefully Misty continues to put on weight and doesn't go down hill again.

Oh I thought I might be over feeding her, Shes still in great shape not overweight at all. I do buy raw mince from bucket o beef, I get chicken, chicken and roo, this week I'm getting beef and roo and roo chunks. I buy turkey wings and legs at the supermarket per pack cost me about $5, If I give them bones Missy and my old golden get 1 turkey wing, shelley gets a turkey leg, rascal gets half a turkey wing. Maybe your right I'm making her fussy, maybe giving to much variety in one meal. The meats I can get cheaply here are hearts and chicken giblets, I mainly give veggies to fill them up more.My parents think I'm going overboard eg I should cut out the veggies and give a bone some mince and chunky meat daily, organs, yoghurt etc once a week.
-
That sounds about right. At 500g per frame that would work out to $3 per kilo which is the standard price at butchers and supermarkets. If you buy by the box you'll probably get them cheaper again. How much are you feeding her? Don't you have a Leonards there? They're usually cheaper. No leonards here, Raw food I can get her to eat 1 cup in the morning 1 cup at night, With kibble I'm lucky to get her to eat 3/4 cup with alot of encourgement. Even when I first got her she wasn't overly keen on kibble.

She was feed optimum puppy and raw mince or bones when I got her at 12 weeks old, When she was 7 months I switched her to black hawk and raw mince or bones. She has been on black hawk and raw mince/bones till 2 weeks ago as she was having horrible gas on black hawk, SO I tryed raw but in this town can't get cheap meat or bones, Just for 4 chicken frames cost $6. I'm trying to find a food that agrees with Missys stomach, She didn't like earthborn coastal catch she might not like a fish based kibble. I'm thinking she is allergic to lamb, I know she loves chicken so I'm trying to find a chicken based kibble. I'm thinking of trying earthborn primative natural.Missy has been fine today back to her normal self.
-
yeah she has been around Misty my sisters dog but so have my other dogs. I'll keep an eye on her she was jus up and about before and looked a bit better.

we didn't do much training as it started to rain, Only did about 10 minutes of training. Missy was pretty good she was doing everything I said. She hasn't did much all day execpt run around the yard with SHelley which she does everyday. Apart from that she hasn't had any exercise today, Shes only been tired not herself since throwing up, She is still asleep been like that since we got home.
-
Thanks might have to try that. Normally my guys would get raw mince or a bone in the morning then kibble at night. So I might have to for missy cut out raw completely and only give kibble morning and night.
-
Missy is a 10.5 month old whippet, She isn't well asleep at the moment.Normally if I squeeze her squeaky toy shes all up ready for games but tonight she won't move at all.
-
Did you give the kibble more then a few days to see how she goes? When she takes a couple bites and leaves the rest do you then give her something else, such as raw? Or just let her go hungry? No I let her go hungry, I only tryed for couple of days, I tryed soaking the kibble in warm water, she still wouldn't eat it. Maybe she doesn't like herring and whitefish, I know she likes sardines, mackeral and salmon but there in brine or olive oil. Thinking about trying the Primitive Natural Grain Free, it has turkey meal, chicken meal and whitefish meal. I may have to be tougher on her and cut out all raw meat till she eats kibble.
-
I tryed missy my whippet on the coastal catch she just take 2 bite fulls then walk away from it, Maybe Missy didn't like the type of fish used in the product or I didn't try her on it long enough.
-
I always feed her at 6pm no matter if were going to obedience or not so its a normal thing. If I don't feed her she tends not to listen to well, she works better with food in her stomach. Shes been on this diet for almost 2 weeks, the only new thing I added was 1 lamb heart. I make it 1 big batch everything mixed in together, All m other dogs were feed the same thing and there fine.
-
Hi everyone on our way back home from obedience Missy threw up half her dinner undigested. She had pork mince, beef chunks, chicken giblets,a lamb heart, carrots, bok choy, celery, sardines, eggs and shells, flaxseed oil, yoghurt and cottage cheese. She only had about 1 cup all up plus a sprikle of vets all natural health booster supplement. She also got 4 little pieces of chicken smackos at training. She got feed at 6pm threw up around 7:40pm. Could it have been the food or something else. I'll keep an eye on her all the other dogs have eatten the same thing and there fine. Worst comes to worse I'll have to go back to kibble but not sure how I'll get her to eat it as she will only eat 2 bite fulls then walk away. There was also white foamy bubbles in the spew too.
-
This is what I feed my guys this lasts 2 golden retrievers 1 whippet and a chihuahua 3 days. 1 cup of cooked brown rice 4kgs of meat minced and chunks 5 eggs plus shells zuccini carrots bok choy 6 tablespoons of flaxseed oil 3 tablespoons of yoghurt (if I have some on hand) Once a week I would add 2 cans of mackeral, sardines or salmon and some liver, kidney and hearts. I'll also add cottage cheese to the mix, every 2nd or 3rd day they will get a meaty bone.

I Finally Made My Own Raw Food
mumtoshelley replied to mumtoshelley's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
well it looks like I'll have to stick to raw feeding Missy isn't keen on earthborn holistic either just like black hawk takes a few bites then leaves the rest. With raw I don't have a problem getting her to eat at all. I don't mind I get my mince from bucket o beef which I have a fair bit of, All I need to get is more cottage cheese, yoghurt, chunky meat and veggies. Tommorrow I'll be taking whats left of the earthborn holistic to petstock, I can't believe she doesn't like it. Looks like I have a dog that loves raw food. -
Whippet Won't Gain Weight
mumtoshelley replied to mumtoshelley's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
she is a bit better weight wise I just saw her on thursday. I just can't believe how long it has taken to get some weight back on her. Misty has always been a bit stockier then Missy and weighed a little bit more too. I have plenty of meat here and some veggies so maybe I should make her some raw food and see it that helps Misty. -

Not sure why she is giving her milk she doesn't need that she needs a high protein/high fat food.
