keep feeding the non-weight bearing bones but go bigger for large breed puppies. Our lab pups never started on chicken necks as we had the same issue as you. We start them on half chicken frames and then as they get bigger we expand to lamb necks and turkey necks. Be persistent with the bones; it's worth the effort. Thanks I love to give my dogs bones as it keeps there teeth clean and jaw muscles a work out. Couple of days ago I did give him another bone this time a turkey wing and he managed to chew that great.

My golden retriever puppy was being feed optimum puppy but I'm slowly switching him over to black hawk puppy. He also gets raw pet mince, nature goodness dog roll and puppy milk. Not giving him bones at the moment as I did give him a chicken neck and he swallowed it whole.

I've been battling with 2 of my dogs to lose weight. If I drop there food intake anymore I moswell not feed them. I get comments on how fat Rascal my chihuahua is all the time, till I tell them how much he is getting feed and exercise then they change there tune. Rascal is lucky to get a tablespoon of food a day and 40-60 minute walks most days depending on weather. Shelley my golden retriever is lucky get 1 1/4 cup of food a day, is runing on and off during the day in the yard plus 40-60 minute walk most days. Here's a most recent picture of Shelley she is 5 years old.

You can always get big dog barf patties which is already raw diet done. What you should aim for is 80% meat 10% bone 10% offal 5% of that liver. You could feed big dog barf patties and a raw meaty bone. My dogs are feed the big dog barf patties, raw meaty bones and pet chicken mince. Here were I am is basicly cheaper to buy the already made big dog barf patties then it is to buy everything and make it myself.

i've notice with every kibble I have tryed with my dogs always made there coats smell horrible, bad gas,ear infections, shedding alot of hair, huge poos even when feed a small amount, poo about 6 times a day, there poos stink to high heaven lol. I've tryed black hawk, bonnie, supercoat, optimum, chum, hills science diet, vip natures goodness grainfree, earthborn grainfree,my own prey model diet and my own homemade barf. Right now I've been feeding those big dog barf patties and raw meaty bones. you can see pictures of Shelley in Health / Nutrition / Grooming before when she was feed kibble and raw and now 4 weeks after being feed big dog barf patties and raw meaty bones. So far since being feed these patties and bones there coats aren't smelling as bad, the gas seems to be not as bad, there poos are alot smaller, there only pooing 1 to twice a day, Ears are clearing up. -
V.i.p. Natures Goodness Grainfree Dryfood
mumtoshelley replied to Frenchfry's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
I'm trying the VIP grain free dry and the meat rolls for my 3 dogs, So far Shelley my golden retriever and Rascal my chihuahua loves this food. Missy my whippet on the other hand is being fussy but she is fussy with every food being offered to her. -
For my golden retriever I use a undercoat rake, comb and slicker brush. For the whippet I use the zoom groom. the chihuahua a pin brush.

You could always feed prey model raw diet, raw meaty bones, muscle meat and organs. I too have 2 fussy pots here one loves raw food the other one minute loves raw next won't touch it. My chihuahua isn't fond of raw meaty bones, He will eat the meat leave the bone. I feed kibble and raw, 2 of my dogs will happliy eat just raw, my chihuahua wouldn't cause he doesn't like bones.

Hi on the 8th of december 2012 I had to put down Buddy my 14 year old golden retriever male. The day before he was walking around, that morning he was walking then by about 13pm he couldn't walk at all. He had huge lumps inside his abdoman and stomach, the vet suspected cancer but due to his age I didn't want to put him through surgery to find it. The vet said just keep a eye on him, keep up the pain killers. When I took him to the vets to get put to sleep, The vets did say they could operate and remove all the lumps. I could tell my Baby Boy was in pain, I didn't feel right to put him through surgery due to his age. Plus he was telling me its time, I held his head as the vet gave the injection. Buddy looked into my eyes and gave me the look of peace, saying thank you. I miss him heaps it isn't the same here. Rest in peace my Baby knowing I will always love you.

V.i.p. Natures Goodness Grainfree Dryfood
mumtoshelley replied to Frenchfry's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
Not bad ingredients but I could be wrong I'm not that good when it comes down to reading ingredients. But to me I'll say not bad for a grocery store dog food, much better then the other brands that are there. -

Swimming, walking through water,up hills, pulling. My golden retriever walks and runs through the water with some swimming in deep water, she also runs up and down a hill. I also do a bit of jumping with her too. -
Where abouts are you, if outer east or heading out through Beaconsfield, I may be able to help out. I'm afraid I'm in merbein near Mildura 6 hours away from melbourne. I may have to look for another food now.

Help! Recall Training
mumtoshelley replied to Elise+Hudson's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
What I do is I call my dogs then run the other direction when they get to me I call them closer then reward, Try doing this with no distractions at first then slowly add distractions. Missy my whippet is still learning but shes getting better each and everytime, At first she would not listen and run up to everyone and not come back to me. Now when I see people I just say arhh come and she listens, sometimes she won't and still continues to run towards them with the second call she comes, If she doesn't I go to her and she gets put back onlead. Must people don't agree with this but most of the time the people are calling her when I'm trying to call her back. -
Inside Dogs And Geographical Location
mumtoshelley replied to mixeduppup's topic in General Dog Discussion
My golden retrievers are outside dogs, They get plenty of attention and time spent with them. We have a covered in varander which also has a wood heater so the dogs can lay in front of that. They also have kennels in the varander too. I try to walk 3 of my dogs daily if the weather is premitting. My old male golden retriever doesn't really leave the yard as he can't walk too far due to his back legs, He often fulls over. He can't even play standing he has to lay down. My whippet and chihuahua are indoor/outdoor dogs, There much easier to exercise on rainy days, I just throw a toy down the hallway for them.
