  1. My goal for my male golden retriever Axel is to be non reactive towards strange people and dogs. Today he had his appointment with delta dogs mildura behaviourist. She said his not that bad really considering some of his littermates she has meet are more aggerssive. She showed me what to do when other people and dogs are around so I'll be doing that, She also reccomended me to take him for walks on his own for him to gain his own confindence. So thats my goal for now.
  2. He hasn't got another ear infection yet,his also scratching less, not biting his feet,or chasing his tail as much since not feeding black hawk. Thanks for letting me know that black hawk has changed there ingredients, My other dogs use to do so well on it, but I've noticed there coats went crap, they started scratching. Now all my dogs are on raw.
  3. Udate on whats happening Axel will be seeing bronwyn welsh from delta dogs mildura for his behaviour towards other dogs and also a little towards people. His appointment is this friday, I know its going to take more then 1 visit to get him to where he can be.
  4. I have tryed the dr billinghurst patties my 7 year old golden retriever Shelley and my 9 year old chihuahua Rascal pack on the weight when feed billinghurst patties, Shelley when on billinghurst was feed less then what she is now same with Rascal. For some reason my whippet Missy didn't really like billinghurst patties but loves the big dog barf ones. Even tho Axels meals have droped to twice a day his still getting the same amount if he was feed 3 times. All my dogs get feed twice a day there whole intake for the day is split into 2 meals instand of 1.
  5. His only been on a raw diet for 2 weeks so not long enough to say that his allergies etc have cleared up. His ear infections were when he was feed black hawk puppy kibble. If I can find a kibble that he can eat without the worry of allergies would be good. I might leave them on raw for now to see if that helps with him.
  6. HI everyone just wandering what brand of dog food is best for a dog prone to allergies and yeast ear infections. Right now I have my dogs on big dog barf patties, pet mince and raw bones. My 19 week old golden retriever Axel seems to act like his straving even tho his been feed 800grams of raw each day. His weight is great I can feel his ribs but can't see them. He wasn't like this when feed kibble and pet mince and he was getting the same amount as he is now if not more. His last worming was done at 16 weeks old. Also he was feed 3 times a day before but is now switched to twice a day.
  7. Axel had a playdate with a grgeous 18 week old bull arab cross bull mastiff today At first he was wary, worried and was a bit snarling but within 30 minutes he started relaxing and playing with this gorgeous puppy. By time it was time to go home Axel refused to get in the car. He was pretty good considering, I was basicly ignoring the bad behaviour eg when he was growling at the other puppy I didn't pay any attention to him, but Patted the other puppy saying oh what a nice puppy. He then started coming towards the other puppy which was rewarded. When he started playing I told him Gentle which he listened too. I;m located near Mildura victoria.
  8. Hi everyone I have a behaviour problem with Axel my 19 week old male golden retriever. Some background he is a pretty good puppy but at 10 weeks old he was attacked by my brothers staffy cross american staffy no injures or wounds but Axel was scared and yelping. Ever since then he barks, growls and has his hackles up when he sees a strange dog, I don't want to tell him No for it as I'm afraid it would make it worse but I do tell him gentle. I want to try and get him to accept other dogs, he goes to obedience every monday night but they won't help they just say to keep him away from other dogs. Does any have any advice of what I can do?
  9. Hi everyone what Shampoo and conditioner would be best for a really stinky 18 week old golden retrie2ver puppy. I have used fidos aloe vera puppy shampoo, the our dog shampoo, even tryed Eucalyptus wool wash and sprayed with a lavendar doggy deodrant and by the next 2 days he stinks again. In saying that he has got a second yeast ear infection which is being treated and his teething too. His diet will be switched to raw when I get paid.
  10. My 17 week old golden retriever puppy Axel has his second ear infection since I got him. I think its due to the food his being feed black hawk puppy lamb and rice, beef mince or pet mince and prime 100 meat roll. So when I get paid next I'll be putting my dogs back on raw specially Axel to see if that helps.
  11. I could be wrong but I thought the testicules could take till the puppy is 6 months old to drop. My male golden retriever puppy Axel is 17 weeks old and his testicules have just dropped. I wouldn't woory about the testicule so much specially if his just a pet not for breeding. My main concern would be why is he unwell and what has caused him to be unwell, We all know puppies get into everything and eat what there not suppose to eat. If its something more then that I would like to know before taking the puppy.
  12. Golden retrievers are lovely dogs I own 2 of them a 7 year old female named Shelley and a 15 week old male named Axel. I also own a whippet named Missy and a chihuahua named Rascal. Shelley is quite lazy actually and trots around she may run for 5 minutes but then spends the rest of the time trottting or walking around. She loves her swimming more so then walking. Axel my puppy is a little more active and runs around alot more but in saying that both my goldens have a off switch. My goldens make better indoor/outdoor dogs then my Whippet Missy as Missy is always on the go and can't seem to stay still for long. Shelley takes an hour once a week to brush out, but you can lower the time if you give them a brush everyday. The hardest thing with goldens is keeping the weight off them as they love there food.
  13. HI I own 2 golden retrievers 1 7 year old female named Shelley and 1 14 week old male named Axel. We also have a 3 year old living in the house. Both my goldens get on well with the 3 year old and take everything the child does to them, but in saying that if the child or dogs get a little rough we do intervene. But within a few seconds Axel is back at her wanting to play. I also have a whippet and a chihuahua I can only say my whippet and chihuahua aren't the best with children specially if there rough like the 3 year old living with us. Golden retrievers are 1 of the best breeds for children, they can be active when you are and can also laze around too. Between my goldens and whippet I can say my goldens make better indoor/outdoor then my whippet. My goldens are calm when inside the house and when outside, They are only active when I want them to be. At the moment Axel my puppy is a litle destructive eg chewing and ripping of plants and lawn and is alot more active then my female but thats cause his a puppy. My whippet on the other hand can't keep still when inside the house but when outside will not move from her bed. She is always active and ready for anything, she is also hard to keep weight on, my female golden is the other way around hard to keep the weight off. Axel my male golden is alright in the weight department at the moment and hopefully stays that way. I would say getting a puppy and raising it with your children and training it the way you want etc is actually better then already getting a adult dog. I would say a golden retriever would suit pretty well with a family with children. Any dog can be scared of loud noises etc, My 2 are fine with loud noises the only thing that scares my female is when you raise your voice when she has done something she shouldn't have. My goldens are also very easy to train, They love to please there owners. I have trained all my dogs without the need to use food rewards.
  14. I'm sure they would have done C5 if you'd asked (and paid) for it but it isn't that it's C5 vs C3 that makes it only 2 vs 3 vaccinations. C5 just covers a couple of additional illnesses. I actually don't know what the difference between the 2 and 3 vacs protocols is (is it different ingredients in the different products?), can anyone explain it? I too would love to know the answer to the ouestion you asked. If I knew Axel wouldn't get parvo I would happy take him out for walks, I would love to introduce him to the river asap for swimming. This area a fair few dogs have gotten parvo which is why I'm hesitate in taking him out.
  15. here there has been a fair few dogs with parvo. I wouldn't mind taking my 10 week old puppy down to the river for a swim but I don't want to risk him getting sick. His last lot of vaccinations are due when his 16 weeks old. Today I took my other dogs for a walk and Axel my puppy so wanted to come too but he had to stay home.
  16. A few more pictures of his front legs he is laying down in these pictures.
  17. Is that what the breeder recommended? The breeder just feed him optimum puppy thats it. I slowly transioned him onto black hawk puppy, pet mince, prime 100 meat roll and puppy milk.
  18. oh I hope I'm not doing anything wrong with his diet or exercise. He walks and runs fine to me.altho can be a bit clumbsy every now and again. I thought I was doing good feeding a premium puppy food and some pet mince, prime 100 meat roll and puppy milk.
  19. Sorry might sound silly but what is pasterns and why isn't it normal? He is feed black hawk puppy, pet mince and prime 100 meat rolls, and puppy milk. He gets feed 3 times a day, his exercise is roamin around the yard and playing with my other dogs.
  20. Axels 6 week vacc was c3 so was todays c3 and his 16 week old 1 will also be a c3. I wander if I demended the c5 to be done if they would have done it?
  21. Yes that is correct but he is getting plenty of socialization here as there is 5 adults and 1 3 year old, A whippet,a chihuahua and another golden retriever to play with. Once his had all his vaccinations he will be attending obedience. For people who don't have other people or dogs in there home I will surguest to take them to puppy school which can be done as soon as you bring puppy home I think as they will only acept puppies that have had there first vaccination,
  22. theres actually 3 set of vaccinations for puppies first vaccination is done at 6 weeks old 2nd done at 10 weeks old third done at 16 weeks old. My male golden retriever Axel just had his 10 week old vaccinations done today, his due for his third in 6 weeks. Vet advised me not to take him out of our yard till he is 18 weeks old 2 weeks after his third vaccination.
  23. My Axel he turned 10 weeks old on friday. Today he got his 10 week old vaccinations due for next vaccinations at 16 weeks old. He also got wormed again and weighed. He weighed it at 7.5kgs. His growing nicely, and his training is coming along nicely too.
  24. Hi I own golden retrievers I've got a almost 10 week old male named Axel and a 7 year old female named Shelley. I use the undercoat rake,a comb and slicker brush, I plan on buying the mars coat king 18 double for grooming too. With the undercoat rake, comb and slicker brush it takes me about 1 hour to throughly brush out Shelley sometimes takes a little longer then a hour depending how much dead undercoat she has.
