Hi I just don't understand why Shelley is gaining the weight back on, I thought 1 1/2 cups a day was plenty for her, Specially since she gets alot of exercise most walks are 2 hours at the most, least she gets is 40 minutes. Just wandering if it could be cause of the high protein and fat? I'm waiting to hear back from Sherel about how much protein, fat and calories are in the weight mangerment BH.

Trust me I am serious but the problem is I'm afraid if I give her not enough food she won't have enough energy. Shelley is a very hungry gutted dog, If she doesn't get enough to eat she will eat poo, dirt, grass anything she can get ahold of. Which is why I've been cutting back slowly on the food so her body gets use to the smaller amounts. For the past 2 meals she is only getting 1 1/4 cup of BH.

I don't jump her to high, I have trained her myself but the things she jumps aren't that high off the ground. She knows the commands up,down and the command over. I can't believe how hard it is to get Shelley and Rascal to lose weight. I blame myself for letting them get that way. I'm joining the dogs with weightloss too so there not alone. Shelley seemed really tired after our 2 hour walk today is that normal? She was runing around alot and swimming more so then she ever did.

The most exercise Shelley and Rascal do in a day is 2 hours, Shelley is runing and swimming, Rascal is walking either infront or beside me. The min exercise they do really depending how busy I am is 40 minutes, That exercise is offlead runing, I also get Shelley jumping over things, She loves to jump up the platforms and go down the slide at the childrens playground. I can understand the size of the kibble also counts,They were feed bonnie adult before the BH and bonnie is a bigger size kibble. last nights and tonights dinner Shelley only got 1 1/4 cup of food. Rascal my chihuahua only gets enough to fill the bottom of his bowl. I may need to cut Rascals food down a bit, Rascal is a werid dog if I don't walk him he won't eat, take him for a walk and he will eat. I guess I will know tommorrow if they have lost weight or not. Rascal goes in tommorrow to get his sitches taken out so I'll be taking Shelley in too and weigh them both.

Breed Suggestions Wanted Please
mumtoshelley replied to Sunnyflower's topic in General Dog Discussion
HI I'm an owner of basicly 2 golden retrievers Buddy and Shelley. The coat diffrences in these 2 are quite amazing. Buddy the male has a very thick coat can take up 2 hours to throughly brush him. Buddy also sheds alot of hair,Buddy also has a very bad doggy odour. Shelley the females coat isn't as thick as buddys and only takes about a hour to throughly brush, Shelley doesn't shed much hair at all and she also doesn't have much of a odour. It really depends what lines the dogs come from, Some goldens shed alot where some don't shed much at all. Best thing to do is ask the breeders how much ther dogs shed? goldens are only meant to shed twice a year. I brush my Shelley every couple of days and manage to get a big handful out of her each time. Buddy on the other hand I'll get half a bucket from him. -
Pictures of Shelley couple of weeks back and some new pictures of her taken today. Also a picture of the measuring cup i use. Before pictures of shelley Pictures taken today By going by the before pictures to today pictures I don't think Shelley has lost any weight, To me I think she has gained weight. picture of my measuring cup I use

Shelley is 3 years old, Sometimes she only gets the BH. If she does get a bone or raw meat I cut back on the BH. So how much should I be feeding her? Could I fill her up with pumpkin, carrots and beans? I'll be getting her weighed again on friday to see if she has lost any more weight.
-
Please don't tell me that Shelley my female golden loves BH but I'm trying to get her to lose weight as she is on the chubby side. Shelley is only getting 1 and half cups of BH a day, She gets exercise some days it is only 40 minutes, some days its 1 40 minute walk in the morning and a 40 minute walk in the afternoon, Some days its a 2 hour hike along the river/bush.

mumtoshelley replied to mumtoshelley's topic in General Dog Discussion
Thats the problem around here If I tell her off or take what she has given Rascal I am the one to get into trouble from my parents. My aunties excuse as to why he can't have bones is his mouth is too small, She has no idea about dogs but claims to know it all. My dad and mum have mention there sick of my auntie aswell but they won't do anything. -

HI No I don't work i'm on the pension so I stay home unless I go shopping. I try and pay attention to Rascal but when my auntie is around he won't come to me, He will come if I have food but once he has the food he runs back to my auntie. I am the one to train Rascal but at the moment I can't cause of my auntie and her dog plus he won't listen when she is around. When my auntie isn't around Rascal comes to me and listens to me very well, the problem is my auntie. Rascal sleeps with my auntie,If I say no his sleeping with me,she makes sure she goes to bed early. I take Rascal for walks, take him to the vets. -
There all gorgeous I loved the music and the clip, All the doggies were lovely.

Erny you should of been here when I told them how much the anal gland removal was going cost. The first thing my auntie said was when is he going to be put down. She even said it the first surgery he had to try and fix the abscess in his anal gland. My auntie is irresponable her cross breed dog has had 2 litters she wasn't going to get it spayed till my mum convinced her to do it. She was spayed at 4 or 5 years old. Her dog also use to escape her yard and did so here for awhile till my dad fixed the fence up. Even if the vet did write a letter I don't think my auntie would listen, She probably wouldn't even read it. -
Sometimes I wish owners had to do a course on how to care for pets etc, Where given a robot one that indicates and holds data like if it was feed, watered, walked every day, trained etc. Then if they pass that, then they go volunter at the pound for a month. Then taken to puppy farmers and told about backyard breeders and pet shops. I also then wish they had licencing for dogs just like they do for reptiles. Then I reckon the local council should have the right to knock and check everyones yard/house and ask for proper paperwork if they have a animal on there property. Just like my auntie she got given her dog from a friend, Back then my auntie worked all the time had no time for a dog yet she still took it. She took it knowing quite well she wasn't allowed pets where she was, The landlord luckly didn't kick her out or told her to get rid of the dog. My auntie just has no respect for other people.

I'm About To Lose Control Here

I've told my auntie several times Rascal is my dog and I will train and bring him up the way I see fit. She doesn't listen goes in one ear out the other. Her own bloody dog doesn't even listen to a word she says, runs outside barking its head off, which my auntie blames my shelley for. She says Shelley gets out of her kennel and runs up the backyard which causes her dog to bark, Yes Shelley may hop out of her kennel and run up the backyard but she isn't barking or making any noise. I often listen out at night time as my room is just beside shelleys kennel and when my auntie goes out there I often don't hear a thing coming from shelleys kennel, Normally if she hops out of her kennel I hear her. Shelley is very well behaved if she barks and I say No quiet she listens and quietens down. My mum always turns and says once my auntie is gone Rascal will turn back to me and then I can work with him to undo all the things my auntie has let him do. Problem being is 5kgs is way to much weight for a chihuahua, I never really had problems with his anal glands till my auntie came here. Rascal may have needed them expressed once but thats it. I use to feed Rascal chicken necks but since my auntie moved in every chicken neck I gave him she use to take off him and pull the meat off, give him the meat then throw away the bone. -

Yes my Auntie is bludging off my mum cause she can't afford to buy anything for herself, she has no job so is on newstart allowance from centerlink. She has like $700 a month in loan payments. She won't go out looking for a job, She just stays at home and sleeps all day. She doesn't help around the house much at all only vacums the floor only cause its her dog that leaves hair everywhere. I brush Rascal every couple of days and bath him weekly, He hasn't been bathed this week cause he has sitches. She isn't a very clean person, doesn't bath her dog properly at all, it stinks all the time and is allowed to do what it wants. My mum isn't brave enough to tell her any rules yet she tells me what to do etc. My auntie doesn't even pick her dogs waste up that is left up to me to do. Thank god Shelley knows i'm her owner and doesn't take to kindy to other people. Rascal loves my auntie cause he can get away with everything with her, where with me he has rules. I'm so much prefering the bigger dogs over the little dogs. Rascal has been with me since a puppy 12 weeks old nolw his 5 turning 6. My auntie has only been here for like 9-10 months and already Rascal has abanded me for her. -
Hi everyone had a fight with my auntie tonight, Rascal wouldn't eat his dinner cause he wanted something else thanks to my auntie she is always giving him something else. So I said Rascal is not to get anything to eat since he didn't want to eat his dinner. My auntie complained big time and ended up giving him a kong filled with crappy predigree pal food no wander why Rascal weighs 11 lbs this is a chihuahua. Rascal is my dog and she doesn't listen to a word I say. Reckons she knows everything about dogs, Yeah right she does,She allows her dog lady to bark at anything and everything when she wants if she wants. This dog also tells my auntie when it wants to be feed and if she doesn't feed it,it then paws at her, barks etc. If my auntie tells this dog no it turns and growls and has a go at her. The dog doesn't know any training, won't listen to a word anyone says, Trys to dominate all other dogs and when she doesn't get her way snaps at them. I'm getting fed up and sick of it I'm that close to just rehoming Rascal to get him away from my auntie, He needs to lose weight, needs to know whats right from wrong, when to bark when to be quiet etc, As long as his around my stupid auntie he will not lose weight,he will not know right from wrong etc. I'm thinking of telling my mum either she gives my auntie her marching orders or I'm leaving. My boyfriend and I pay board to help my parents with food, electricity etc, Where my auntie isn't paying board cause she can't afford to as she has a car loan etc to pay for and no job. So the way I see it she will lose 2 good people who help her out and keep the bad one who doesn't. I'm really at a loss on what to do I want what is best for Rascal which he would get from me if it weren't for my bloody auntie. I don't see her leaving anytime soon and i don't see my mum kicking her out either.

I brought my first bag yesterday all the dogs couldn't leave me alone when putting it in the barrel. I had Buddy,Shelley and Rascal sitting around the barrel begging for some. They loved there dinner so much that they kept checking there bowls to see if move was in them. Thanks for making this product all 3 dogs are loving this food.

Where in the same boat asking ourselfs when the time is right with Buddy our 12 year old male golden retriever his turning 13 in august this year. Right now his happy, eating and drinking, Only problem is he can no longer go for walks everyday cause he sometimes falls over. He drags his back right leg and sometimes trips over it, He still plays with his toys and will fetch a few times but other then that his body won't let him do much.
-
Thanks everyone I also noticed that he is weeping poo out of his bottom every now and then. I just hope that problem doesn't stay. I will ring the vet tommorrow for sure he has a vet appointment on friday but hopefully when I ring they will say bring him in.

Hi everyone Rascal my chihuahua had surgery to get his anal glands removed on monday. His getting annoyed at his bottom likes its really itchy, He keeps scooting his bottom on the floor he stops when i tell him no. He gets a pain killer once a day and antibiotics twice a day. But his bottom is giving him hell, I don't blame him. What can I do to stop the itchyness, Poor boy can't even eat standing up. I plan on ringing the vets tommorrow about it to see if theres a product that will relieve the itchyness. But I thought I would ask here in case theres a cream or something in my medical cabinet we could use.

Probably Been Loads Of Threads About This But
mumtoshelley replied to frenzied1's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
I to couldn't afford to feed advance etc plus i didn't like the fact you got less for your money. I have just started feeding black hawk to my guys tonight,I pay $80 for 20kgs. I gave Shelley the sample I got and I noticed a change within 6 days of feeding it. -
I think advance is a better food I could be wrong i'm only new to premium food. I've decided to feed black hawk holistic.

I'm only throwing out ideas hopefully someone more experience will come in. Have him tied up to you so he can't just wonder away and pee on the carpet, Take him out every hour and when he does do his buisness outside make a huge fuss over him saying good boy,It ia also a good idea to use go toilet, Make sure you say it while he is doing his buisness, He will then relise what go toilet means. Go back to training him like he was a puppy just brought home. Do not let him out of your sight either keep him crated when you can't watch him or tie him to you. I would also throughly clean where he has peed,Make sure you use a product that doesn't have ammonia in it as this will just cause the dog to keep peeing there.

Warm Dog Beds With No Filling/stuffing
mumtoshelley replied to Rileys mum's topic in General Dog Discussion
yes! the dogs then have much more fun playing 'tug-the-blanket-loose'..and enjoying the slow Rrrrrrrrrrrip noises ;) Yep I can tell you nailing the blanket to the kennel floor will not work. My Shelley use to be a bda chewer and riped every bed I gave her. My dad nailed a fleece blanket over her bed to the floor of the kennel. The next morning her bed was riped up stuffing everywhere. Thankfully my Shelley out grew the ripping of beds much, She has only destroyed 1 bed in 2 years all cause she was jealous cause I was paying attention to Rascal and not her. I can surguest a product everyone can use on the bedding which dogs don't like the taste of its called deep heat in the spray can you get it from the chemist. -
My Shelley and Rascal loved the BH I'll be buying my first bag tommorrow hopefully.
