  1. Thats the problem he isn't getting anything extra at all no treats no extra food well exept his poo and chook poo he eats. His only getting 2 teaspoons of raw mince meat be it beef, lamb, chicken, turkey, pork and veal, Once or twice a week the raw minced meat gets swaped for a small chicken neck or drumlet. Then at night he gets tablespoon of black hawk, He gets plenty of exercise. The vet did mention that she reckons Rascal would be better on a high protein low in fat food. She thinks 14% fat might be too much for him. Oh also I can't get him to swim unless I get into the water and carry him in as he doe2sn't really like to swim.
  2. I hope Mindy recovers well it isn't fun when there sick. I'll be praying for you and mindy
  3. Hi everyone just wandering what brand of weight control dog food would be best for a little chihuahua who is prone to gaining weight. Here is a list of weight control food I can get locally. Hills science diet advance Iams royal canin Eukanuba Also does royal canin have can food at all, I know advance does. I don't really like hills science diet and niether does Rascal.
  4. Hi what I do is is I feed raw minced meat in the morning and kibble at night. I've been told to never feed raw and kibble together at the same time. Also twice a week the raw minced meat gets switched with a bone. I also feed my guys a raw egg once a week and sardines here and there.
  5. Whats wrong with that Rascal my chi loves his walks he can actually walk longer then Shelley my golden retriever can. Just cause his little doesn't mean longer walks aren't good for him. I know what Rascal can handle and if he looks tired I stop and let him rest for a while, which in most cases Rascal doesn't want to stop.
  6. Gave Rascal his dinner of hills prescription w/d and he wasn't that keen on it he ate it slowly. I went outside to feed buddy and Shelley the black hawk well ascal heard it and came runing wanting some. I then feed Rascal his dinner which he sniffed walked away then went back and ate it slowly.
  7. Hi Rascal my chihuahua is home from the vets, he has a bowel infection and is on antibiotics. The vets want him too lose weight which i'm trying his only geting like a tablespoon of food a day and gets walked 40 minutes to 2 hours a day. The vets also gave me hills prescription diet w/d low fat-Diabetic Gastrointestinal can food. This food I'm not too keen on as the first ingredient is water, egg product, whole grain corn. This food only has 4% protein 2% fat, What does everyone think? the vets said he isn't allowed to eat anything else but this can food.
  8. Yes he is vaccinated almost due for another tho. When I ring them up tommorrow I will demand to know what tests have been done. Hopefully it isn't parvo but if it is can our other dogs catch it? ther both been vaccinated too.
  9. Buddy And Shelley our goloden retrievers both eat raw minced meat and black hawk. I have found my guys are doing well on black hawk, there coats look and feel 100% better, there isn't as much poo laying around either.
  10. Thats the thing the vets won't tell me what tests they have done even when asked. All they have did was put him on fluids and give him antibiotics. His still dehydrated but the vets are finding it hard to keep the drip in as Rascal keeps walking around in circles.
  11. I also forgot to mention that Rascal has blood in his poo too. Now I've got the bad feeling that Rascal has parvo, He will be staying in the vets again tonight so this would make his 3rd night in the vets.
  12. The vets haven't said much at all to me about Rascal even when I asked them. They just said they wanted to do a urine test, fecal test and maybe some blood tests. They have put him on fluids, he has eaten some biscuits not sure about the drinking. The vets said he looks a bit happyier. All they said to me today when I rang them up is they vwanted to keep Rascal in again to give him more fluids and medication, When I asked what was the problem with him they still couldn't answer me and said hopefully we will know more this week.
  13. Hi my 6 year old male chihuahua Rascal has been at the vets since friday hopefully he will be able to come home tomorrow. Rascal is dehydrated, has watery poo, won't eat or drink, the only thing he has been eating is grass then throwing up. His poos have been black in colour too, The vets aren't sure what is wrong with him, They think bowel infection but the werid thing is he doesn't have a temperture. He got that way that he didn't want to come inside,Just wanted to stay outside in his kennel. So if you have any ideas on what it could be please mention them. Can't believe it he got his anal glads removed 2 months ago, His bowel hasn't been right since then, He gets feed raw mince in the morning and black hawk at night, once or twice a week he gets a bone be it a chicken drumlet or chicken neck.
  14. My guys have been getting raw mince meat or a bone in the morning then at night they get BH. I've been feeding BH for about 2-3 months. I haven't noticed my guys drinking more if anything I have noticed there not drinking as much as they use too.
  15. A 20kg bag last our 2 golden retrievers and 1 chihuahua about 2-3 months as I also give them raw mince daily and bones once or twice a week.
  16. All tgho my shelley is a golden retriever She too needed to lose weight she weighed 40kgs when I started about 3 months ago she now weighs 33kgs which I'm happy with. I can feel her back bone and hips and her ribs from the side. ALl I did to get her to lose weight was drop her food down and exercise her daily. Shelley is now getting feed twice a day, In the morning she gets 2-3 tablespoons of raw meat be it chicken, turkey, pork, lamb or beef, Then at night she gets about 1 cup of black hawk food. Also once or twice a week the raw meat gets replaced with a raw meaty bone.
  17. I own a chihuahua and a female golden retriever and we have 3/4 acre so have plenty of room so does this mean I shouldn't walk my dogs. The way I see it people who keep there dogs in the yard 24/7 there dogs are the ones that are aggressive. Even if you have a large yard I still think its a good idea to take them out and about, that way they get socialized with people and other dogs. Not only that they get use to alot of noises and movements which all this builds up confidence and lack of fear aggression.
  18. All I can say is to stop irresponable people owning dogs is to take away pet shops, byb and people giving away puppies. Also I wish people would learn about the breeds they want etc, But what I hate most is people that get animals and keep them locked up in the backyard 24/7. Europe I think is the state that I think is great they can take there dogs almost everywhere, There dogs are well socialized no attacks really happening there, Also no poo laying around everywhere either. We could really learn alot from that state.

  20. I think everyone has been through what you are going through. My Shelley use to be a bad and jump on people, We tryed raising of the knee, turning our backs, walking away from her none of that worked she still would jump up on us. So what I did was when she came runing towards me I told her sit which she did. I first just worked with her myself slowly introducing a new person, When she would go towards the person I would tell Shelley sit, I told the person which would be my mum or other family member that if she doesn't sit do not pay any attention to her don't even look at her. Took a couple of times for Shelley to get the idea. Within about a week or 2 Shelley would go up to people and sit and wait for a pat.
  21. Hi Buddy my 12 year old will be 13 next month went to the vet again today as he has lost alot of hair we got a 15 litre bin worth of hair from him eg enough for 2 more golden retrievers, If we kept brushing him we would have gotten more I'm sure. His been very clingly wanting to be with us alot more then normal, won't sleep in his favourite place, walks out the yard stops looks around like his lost then wanders back in. His also lost weight since he went to the vet on tuesday he weighed 37.7kgs today he weighed 37.3kgs. The vet also said his kidneys are small for his size. The vet did blood work up,urine sample, ultasound and x-rays. Turns out he has a lump in the abdomen. The vet wants to wait till the blood work comes back, Then she said we might do exploratory surgery and remove some of the lump and send it in for testing.I have a feeling its something bad.
  22. I too would stop all visiting as clearly the dog isn't couping too well with them. If I gave up my Shelley which would never happen I would ask to see where she would be living eg yard check etc, Then I'll want to visit 2-3 months later too see how she was going. Then I would stop the visiting but want updates every so often by email. To me I think it is unfair on the dog to see its old owners as they think they are there to take them home, Then when they leave without the dog they get upset. I know I wouldn't want to do that with a dog as it would be hard for me too seeing that happen.
  23. I don't know if this would work Buddy my 12 year old golden retriever use to do this when he was younger, He wouldn't move not even for food. I did find a way to get him to move what I did was drop his lead kept on walking saying bye to him. This will only work if the dog doesn't like being away from you. Does your dog like chasing moving objects? if so maybe dropping his lead and runing in the direction you want to go might work, I would only do these things tho if your dog has got good recall. Have you tryed just continue walking and gently tagging on the lead saying come.
  24. Shelley,Buddy and Rascal get feed twice a day in the morning they get raw meat be it chicken, turkey, pork, beef or lamb mince human grade food, Then at night time they get black hawk. Buddy has a real doggy odour very bad even within 5 minutes after his bath he stinks again. We have just learnt to live with it Buddy is 12 years old turning 13 next month.
