  1. So how many classes do you think it would be wise to go to? So far we've been to 2 (with Luci Ellem) and it's been awesome - would it be better to go fortnightly? We work on all her showing fundamentals (standing, out and back, on the table for inspection) each day as part of her breakfast/dinner training (sit, stay, down, heel etc etc). I don't think we're perfect by any means - but I don't want her to loose her enthusiasm
  2. Could you make your own using an Easiyo? I do for human consumption and it's really easy & cheap
  3. We had to use advocate one month for ear mites and found tape worm popped up straight away - we used Drontal Plus.
  4. Thanks Woofen! At the moment she is attempting to lick it out of my hands (usually a small piece of ham or cheese), until I mark she doesn't get it. At the moment her default "leave it" is sitting on the ground - that's how we trained it originally - which is why when she sees the treat, but I don't give it to her quick enough she sits! I think I'll try mark immediately and then delay a little on the food to see if that works.
  5. Thanks for the tip Woofen - we've only had 2 wks of show training and so far I'm shovelling the treats down for stand after doing out and back - though I've tried weaning her off to 2 seconds - but she sits her butt on the ground
  6. Could it be teething? Ziva goes off her food each time a tooth is about to fall out.
  7. Olivebaby - she eats 1/2 a cup over the whole day ;)
  8. According to the BH feeding guides, Ziva is meant to get about 1C a day for her weight - but we do 1/2C and 1 small piece of chicken neck. We started on 1C and she turned into a little fatty! Oh - instead of throwing the food she doesn't eat away - can you put it in the fridge/back in the container for another day?
  9. Does the dog need to handle rough-n-tumble from the kids?
  10. Ah thanks Shelby - I didn't want to get to the payment bit and found out I made a mistake and couldn't go back
  11. Hi all Taking the plunge and entering some shows North of the Harbour has the closest entry deadline - according to the gazette there are prices for catalogues - how do I mark/select this on Ozentries? I've looked on the entry page but there doesn't seem to be a "catalogue" option (or am I going blind ) Thanks in advance
  12. Ziva always wees at home first before we head out - we've made walks a reward for toileting on command.
  13. Ah - perhaps it might be easier if you spell out everything in writing - e.g. I agree in regards to any pets 1. Keep in X area when unsupervised/I am at work (e.g. in laundry with access to a dog door, or fenced section of the yard) 2. Will crate train 3. Will be responsible for toileting and cleaning up any accidents 4. Will be responsible for feeding, vet bills 5. Will be responsible for finding pet appropriate accomodation if moving out and will not leave pets at the premises whilst I am not living there 6. Roommate/landlord WILL NOT be responsible for caring for the dog in any way, unless he chooses to volunteer to do so. If you agree to terms that cover his areas of concern - then perhaps that might help.
  14. I found his books a good read - but again, differing thoughts on mouthing. Someone also recommended The Focused Puppy to me (is it still free shipping on the Clear Run website?)
  15. I just don't think I could bring myself to wear bright red pants!
  16. Thanks PF - I hadn't even thought of that! I have some black flats I can use (now I think about it, most of the shoes in my wardrobe are bright colours!)
  17. Haha! I don't own any show outfits yet - but I figure I'll just wear my work suit (which only gets used once every few months - we dress casual usually!) at the beginning with my red cons to funk it up a little Of course, first I need to stop being a chicken and get the guts to enter
  18. Thanks oakway! We tried the slip at the breeders today and she seemed to be ok with that. Now to stop myself from spluring on too many pretty show leads
  19. Hi all, I've searched the forums and read the pinned topics - but I can't seem to find an answer to this. We've just started show training classes for Ziva and I need to organise a show lead - but there seems to be so many kinds and a lot of overlap. We visited the breeder this morning and he said a choker lead is best, but after looking around online - I'm finding it difficult to determine the difference between a choker lead and a slip lead. This lead on ebay says slip and looks like what our breeder has: http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/PARA-CORD-SLIP-LEAD-suit-show-pet-dog-GREAT-COLOURS-/160590225587?pt=AU_Pet_Supplies&hash=item2563ec60b3 But then looking on some show supplies websites, this sort is sometimes labelled as choker? And then the same ebay seller has this one as a choker http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/PARA-CORD-CHOKER-STYLE-LEAD-suit-show-pet-dog-/160590226101?pt=AU_Pet_Supplies&hash=item2563ec62b5 The only difference looks like a clip that secures the collar section in place Are they different? Or the same? Am I nuts?
  20. And maybe use a toileting cue? I've heard "quick quick", "empty puppy" - we use "Go pee go poop" I understand how frustrating it is - Ziva would go outside, treat and praise, then as soon as we got inside she'd go again! It didn't last longer than the first few days.
  21. Welcomes sometimesnotoften I brush my JS pup every couple of days and we don't have any issues with shedding - though twice a year I'm expecting a snow storm when her coat changes. To be honest, we see more dog hair on our nneighbour's floors and they have a lab!
  22. Hmmm - I've just combed through the OH&S policies and they don't say anything specific - but I've sent them an email to find out. Thanks all
