  1. I am a new exhibitor and new to my breed as well and this would be very useful! I believe this is how the JS is judged in Japan Kind of on the above topic, I would love to get more actual feedback from judges. One of the main reasons we show is to get a judge's opinion on our dog and how closely it meets the standard. Every now and again you come across a judge who will explain their reasoning for putting certain dogs up, or provide some feedback on your dog, but really it's not that often. I don't think I've ever received a comment from a judge besides instructions - I presume it would be rude to ask them after the show is over?
  2. I am a new exhibitor and new to my breed as well and this would be very useful! I got into showing as a bit of fun and to try something new - we've done ok and we have lots of things to learn. I've found most exhibitors to be really nice and friendly, helpful - but every now and then I run into someone a bit nasty, I just ignore them. Perhaps some people find the initial outlay of $ prohibitive? I know that you can start with your dog, a good set of grooming supplies and a crate - however, I've found the experience more enjoyable with a trolley, gazebo & walls, camp chairs & table, stove for tea/coffee or hot lunch. Especially if it's a long day or bad weather. Now we're heading into hot weather I've bought a cool mat for the trolley and some shade mesh walls. One question - once a judge is accredited, do they need to be re-tested every so often? For example, you may have been accredited as a judge before a breed was ever given ANKC recognition - what happens then? A test on just that new breed for judges?
  3. The first few weeks are always a riot, with puppies competing at who can be the most crazy! Have fun!
  4. rome - are you in Sydney? I would suggest seeing a dog chiro or muscle specialist. If you are in Sydney I can recommend Peter Schofield (Berkshire Park, towards Windsor/Richmond) or others also recommend Gary (I can't remember his surname) near Austral.
  5. It was more boggy around the rings because of foot traffic. It started raining at 11:30am when I left - it would still be pretty wet underfoot. In sweepies I carried Ziva as the line moved along - the water was quite deep - her belly was getting wet (mind you, she's only 12inches at the shoulders).
  6. GoldenWei - they ran out of catalogues - sorry! Non-Sporting was a small group (about 30 entries), so group was done about 11am. We did see a few gazebos go flying, even though some had been pegged down. It was getting very windy! We only entered Sat & Sun, and I'm glad to be home in Sydney nice and warm, dry and in pants that don't have muddy paw prints all over them! Thanks to the committee for organising - hopefully we'll have nicer weather next year
  7. Hey GW - I paid for one with my entries but forgot to get it (we arrived a bit late and went straight into the ring). I'll see if I can pick it up tomorrow
  8. We have moved out of our gazebo into the tent because it is COLD (well, for me - I think it's about 5-8C). I think it's been raining most of the day (except luckily for 20 min while we put up our tent and gazebo) Hot chips from the canteen were excellent Fingers crossed the showers stop tomorrow - regardless it's quite wet. Very tough to keep a white dog white
  9. Thanks for the map and the tips Pav Lova! Do you know where the camping spots are?
  10. Sounds like it will be a blast ;) I wonder if people will stay home because of the weather?
  11. I might make a trip to the camping store for some right angle tent pegs!
  12. Thanks Ellie - the latest forecast I saw said showers for Sat and 13C - brrr! I'll make sure I pack plenty of warming foods Will someone direct campers to a particular spot?
  13. Thanks Ellie I wonder if it's allowed to show wearing a beanie and gloves
  14. I remember this thread from a while back and thought I'd post a pic of a trolley cover for a single berth I've just made: With the fabric sides Fabric sides removed and silver shade mesh sides velcro'd on instead The front flap is shut with zippers. The rear and side panel is 1 piece that velcros on to the top and attaches via zippers to the front flaps. I used velcro so that I could interchange with the silver shade mesh cover I already had for the trolley. I will put a pocket on there somewhere - just haven't decided where yet. Lessons learned - while the jacquard I used looks beautiful, the velcro does tend to snag on it a little, maybe a more robust fabric if I made another. Next time I'd also attach the sides via zippers rather than velcro (I'm pretty good at sewing zippers on using the zipper foot on my sewing machine
  15. I've got a 0C down bag, but we're bringing a trailer (we realised that our station wagon doesn't hold enough of our camping gear on our first trip a few weeks ago to Berry) so I'm seriously thinking of bringing my wool doona as well! I've also dug out the thermals & beanies, gloves. I'm pretty sure I ordered a catalogue for the days we're entered (Sat & Sun)
  16. Hi all Anyone camping at the Greater Western show in Kelso this weekend? I realised I hadn't sent my camping fees in with my entry (and it didn't say to do so on the Gazette listing) - called the Secretary and they will accept cash payment (correct money) at the Show. It's predicted to be -1C - brrrr! Oh - and does anyone have a breed numbers breakdown? Nothing came in the envelope besides the numbers and there hasn't been anything on OzShow yet.
  17. Ooh - I love Simarik and Tarkan!! Though my style is more classical Egyptian, don't get to dance to Turkish music much.
  18. CleoJ - one of our trainers suggested I look at DWD and your video has inspired me to get in contact with the NSW committee to find out about the next workshop I'm a belly dancer as well (not a professional, only amateur) - yesterday I was just thinking how I could use some great drum solo music for a routine (and I already have plenty of belly dance costumes!)
  19. Ziva sends puppy cuddles to Mindy - sending lots of positive vibes that she pulls through ok
