  1. Yeah i think she will like it. maybe one day she might also cave and get me a GSD
  2. His coat may not be as thick if he is going through the end of summer moult. He is a mixture of two completely different types of dog so it is near impossible to predict what effect this would have on his coat. Souff True, he is loosing a lot of hair every time i brush his hair so he must be moulting.
  3. R.I.P poochie maybe you have met my first dog shelby tell her i miss her
  4. Just gave my old boy max his monthly trim and i never knew so much fur could come off such a small dog hahaha we usually shave him but i recently got new grooming scissors and they are really great Any way he has like two different coat types on his shoulders and face he has silky fur but on his bum and tail he has more pom fur and his belly is just a mixture of the two so when i give him a bath and blow dry him he is a fluffy and half silky its not as thick as pom fur though shorter and less thick but im assuming thats cause he is an older boy maybe his fur is thinning out?
  5. Poor pooch hope she gets through what ever it is ok
  6. i would take it :D and bring it back later when they would be awake.
  7. We tend to take so much for granted in assuming our dogs understand the things that we understand. Your dog simply doesn't know what the light is about and wouldn't have made a connection with it being from the torch in your wife's hands. Whatever you do, don't turn "spot the light" into a game, because although it might help him get over being worried about it, it also has the very real potential of turning into an obsessive compulsive behaviour (ie chase the light and try to catch it). Ask others whose dogs do this - often starting out by a game and then building to unsatisfied prey drive. Not that you were going to do this, but just in case you brought it out and this ended up being an inadvertent side-affect. Don't fuss on it too much, but give your dog a chance to understand the light is from the torch. Just use the torch as you need to, without making too much of a big deal about it. Avoid shining it upwards and of course not in his eyes - keep it pointed to the ground near your feet. Give your dog a food treat. Don't look or draw attention to the torch light. Only use the torch for what you need - no turning off and on to see if your dog is ok with it or worried about it any more. Just use it as you need to when you go out each night. If you make a deal of it, your dog will (continue to) think there is a deal to be made of it. ETA: It might also be helpful if you turn the torch on whilst you are still inside the house with the lights on and let your dog come out with you. The contrast might not be quite so astounding to him that way. Agree with this it can easily turn into an obsession.

  11. Agreed. I'm moving to Europe in a couple of years and I will finally hopefully be able to own my cropped dobe As for the desexing, if you can last until 2 years with an undesexed male dog and managed to cope, I'm not sure that you'd need to worry about it. To be honest with you, I've only ever had female dogs desexed, I've also seen the studies posted and I just don't believe it's necessary or better for the dog health-wise. If you can control your dog and stop him from reproducing, I don't see the need and I prefer my dog to be as nature intended. For anyone who then says, "yeah but you want to crop their ears," that's because dogs originally all had upright ears, we just thought it made them look cute to selectively breed for floppy ears, so I don't see that as the natural state. You say you like your dogs to be as nature intended but you want a dobermann with cropped ears? Dogs born with floppy ears should keep floppy ears. Born with tail should keep the tail thats the way nature intended after all . As for desexing i cant really say, but i have found this thread very interesting to read
