When I was a teen we owned a quite HA Rottweiler x ACD. The police knocked on our door one day and said if he ever was seen in the street off leash they'd shoot him. He was NEVER off leash out of the well fenced yard. What prompted such a violent and unwarranted door knock we never found out. If cops can behave like this I don't doubt for a second how low a ranger would stoop.

Brown snakes are frighteningly aggressive sometimes though.

Strange. I've come across dozens of RBB in my life and every single one has left as quick as it could. I've seen a few launch themselves to get away. Maybe they're just scared up here.

Excellent! Thanks for posting!

One could say the dog wasn't being contained and that the problem lies with the owner but surely the solution wasn't appropriate. How is the dog better off dead?

Bender after the jerk robot in Futurama. Suits him down to the ground. My friends think Bender is just like me.

Yes I thought the Lab looked well overweight.

I also couldn't find the AST winner but I am watching the video of them linked in a previous post now. :)

Slightly OT but the DVD sales for an Australian movie are phenomenal.

Haha! Thanks! He's such a sweet boy! Just turned 2 yesterday. He's much better looking than I can capture with a camera. :)

Using online databases I can trace the ancestry of my dog back quite a way and certainly dual registered (UKC AKC) dogs are in there. Also AST were still used for fighting after 1935 but it wasn't the goal of most breeders. The AST absolutely used to be APBT. I think countless generations of breeding for a slightly different standard (Yes APBT does have one even if it's not AKC) and a different temperament have resulted in two different breeds today. There is definitely a pure breed called APBT. My dog is an AST but as the picture used earlier in this thread show, people trying to explain the differences get it wrong all the time.
-
ADBA APBT are very lean and athletic. It suits the idea that they are 'gamebred' dogs. There isn't the ideal in AST to breed a dog more suited to fighting.
-
Some breeders are breeding AST to be HUGE. It is often assumed they are using Mastiff blood and hanging the papers.

Soft crates have proven much hotter for me too.

An amiable of Amstaffs.

This Amstaff/APBT debate is one that still rages even on APBT forums. I like to think that the divide occurred when in 1936 people took a breed in a better direction. Amstaffs very much are the show/companion type and APBT is the working or game type. Without papers my Amstaff is considered a 'pit bull' by my local government and would be destroyed. Most APBT owners don't want their dog called a 'pit bull'. This has become a 'type' rather than breed description. Every idiot that has a bull breed cross and calls their dog a 'pit bull' is applying a name to a mutt. I love these breeds but realise they are attractive to morons too. Much like any powerful breed, some people are drawn to them for the wrong reasons. I agree there is no genetic difference between APBT and an Amstaff but temperament and breed standards have lead to two different dogs.

A pound of staffy x's.

Completed. I had to evacuate once because of bushfires.

My Rotty used to howl in his sleep. Really woke us at night!

Being concerned about the health of an animal is entirely different to branding breeds as 'aggressive'.

Muddying the waters is what Qantas are doing by failing to transport a healthy breed that does not suffer during flight.

Qantas made it a BSL issue.

Do Vets Jack The Price Up For Insurance Claims?
Sabbath replied to Ellis's topic in General Dog Discussion
Some industries do charge more on an insurance claim. I'm not surprised one might suspect the same from a vet. -
Great effort Sunshine Coast Daily. This type of 'journalism' is sadly predictable.
