Lola Bear 08/11/2010 - 15/05/2012 It's been just over 2 weeks since you were taken so suddenly. I miss you so much. It's not fair, you were only here for such a short time. I know you made the most of it while you were here though. I can't help but think what could I have done differently, maybe you would still be here. Eva misses you also. Rest in Peace my little darling xoxoxoxo

What Is The Age Difference Between Your Dogs?
Lisey replied to Pretty Miss Emma's topic in General Dog Discussion
I had two dogs with a 23 month age difference, I think it worked well - they would both run amok together and one wouldn't wear out quicker than the other. I'm not sure what I'm going to do now. I recently lost Lola at only 18 months old :-( Eva is 3 & 1/2. I know I will get another one day but I'm just not ready yet. I always thought I would have 2 old dogs together and it would be sad if they died around the same time as each other. Nothing could have prepared me for this though. I'm still in shock about losing a dog so young -
Thank you everyone for your kind words. It is still so hard to believe. I miss her so much and everything I look at reminds me of her. A photo from a few weeks ago.

I've just received the worst call of my life. Lola has just passed away. Her heart stopped. I love you Lola and you have been taking far too young. RIP my little darling xoxoxoxoxoxo

Glad that Max is ok now :-) Lola did receive a plasma transfusion in the early hours of this morning.... Hopefully it really helps her

I've just been & visited her and she was really out of it. To be expected though I guess. She did know that we were there & was happy to see us. They have got her heart rate up to a more stable level which is great news but the vet had still said at this stage it's 50/50 if she will make it :-( He has now told me it was not a bone stuck, just a freak thing that he doesn't see often. Somehow the bowel has twisted causing part of it to die. He removed 30cm of bowel which seems like heaps but apparently that's not a massive amount which is good, so if she does pull through she won't have any ongoing issues with her bowel. It's up to her now to fight off the infection. ETA - but it wasn't bloat....
-
Thank you. I've just spoken to the vet again and it was Peritonitis. She is doing resonable and is apparently responsive, but their biggest concern at the moment is her blood pressure. It's just a bit of a waiting game now which is really hard.
-
She has come through the surgery, part of her bowel had to be removed as it had died and the surgeon has had to clean out a lot of fluid and bacteria. I will get another update at 8.30. I hope she is ok.

My dog Lola is the emergency vet right now, about to have an operation as they believe she has perforated her intestine, most likely due to a bone that has gotten stuck. Has anyone else been through this and did your dog survive? They have told me its really serious and it's 50/50. :-(

Thanks everyone for your suggestions!

I had a bit of a scary experience this afternoon. 3 of us were walking home from having lunch and we thought we would walk a different way. We were walking on the road, not the footpath and one house we went past, all of a sudden 2 large dogs came rushing out, barking and carrying on. They had a gate but it was open :-( and they ran onto the road. I thought one of them was about to knock me over but in the end they didn't end up making contact thank god! The 3 of us all did different things, I walked away quickly with my arms kind of blocking me for some reason, my friend ran and my partner tried staying still and trying to stay calm.... What is the best thing to do in this situation? They backed off once we went past their driveway. It frightened us a bit so we didn't think to get the number or name of the street... We just wanted to get as far away as possible. I'm just so happy that I wasn't walking either of my dogs at the time!

They really get into it! This was at Christmas time with they chrissie t-shirts on :-)

I have 2 staffords. A 3 & 1/2 year old and a 1 & 1/2 year old. That is definitely enough for now! Maybe when they are older and slow down (not likely!) I would like a male but I can only give 2 belly rubs at a time!
-
I love watching them! They seem to be into a bit of a rountine now, just before bed time every night they will have a play! It's funny, they will actually have a hold of each others cheek or jaw but only for about 3 seconds and then they let go and the other ones grabs a hold for a bit. Never any marks left, sometimes a bit of salvia though! Is it generally between dogs that know each other?
-
I always enjoy watching my two play fight and pretend bite each others faces, sometimes legs, etc. They never seem to hurt each other, I have very rarely heard either of them yelp. They certainly look scary with all the teeth but the worst they do is sometimes clash their teeth together. How do they know that each of them are mucking around and it's all in fun? Does everyones dogs do this and what does it mean? Just curious really :)

Most Dog Friendly Countries, Cities Or Regions In The World
Lisey replied to Lisey's topic in General Dog Discussion
Thank you. It's interesting reading all of this. It does make it a little more difficult, I have 2 staffords and I know they are restricted or banned in some countries or states. I wouldn't want to take them anywhere they are not welcome. I would love to visit these countries and see the dogs in shops, restaurants, trains, etc. It seems like a novelty! -
Staffords are my breed - I will always have one or two - BUT if I were to get another breed as well (not likely) I've always thought that Frenchies are pretty awesome.

One of my favourite times of the day with my two staffords is bed time. One snuggles right up to me and the other one is by my feet.

I'm looking for a housemate to move in to my place in early April. I have 2 dogs and the most important thing for me is that I get someone who loves dogs as much as me (they are inside dogs) and has had experience with dogs in the past. Unfortunately I can't have anyone that has pets of their own so I know it's a stretch posting on here as majority (if not everyone) will have their own dog :) but I thought I should try! A little about the house and room - The house is a Queenslander with a deck at the front. It is located on a quiet street with a nice outlook. The room comes unfurnished however it easily fits a queen size bed with room for a bedside table, etc. It also has large built in wardrobes with extra storage at the top. Wireless internet and electricity are included in the $200 a week rent. If you are interested or know someone who might be please send me an PM.

Me too! This was when Eva was still a puppy and her first visit to a dog park - a very wet dog park - and she loved it! She is meant to be a Red Stafford but is looking rather brown!
-
Thanks! I thought it was really strange advice. I will let her know :-)

I'm just after some advice for my friend - she is possibly taking her healthy 3 year old lab back to Melbourne to live with her mother - when she orginally moved to Qld and enquired about flying her dog up (I don't know who she contacted) the person advised her not to fly the dog unless she absolutely had to and if she did fly her it would make her dog go crazy in the head..... So she drove to Melbourne to pick her up and then drove back to Brisbane with her dog in a weekend. This doesn't seem right to me. People fly their dogs often without issues don't they? Does anyone have any advice I can give my friend?
