  1. So a further update to this. We have heard back that they were cystine stones, which are quite rare. Ive been told that I can now only feed him the Hills Prescription UD for the rest of his life. He is only 4!! Has as anyone ever dealt with these type of stones before and have any advice. Are there any any alternatives to Hills?
  2. So I'm still waiting back to hear what type, etc. but I knew it would take a little. Think I need to book him back in for checkup though. He seems totally fine, blood all gone and peeing ok, but just today I've noticed a lump where the incision was (but it's not swollen skin, if that makes sense). And it's only when he lies on his back, it pokes out. When he is standing I can't feel/see anything but it doesn't look right. I've taken a photo to show the vet. I'll call and book him in tomorrow Edited to add - it's not his 'excited' lumps either, a bit further up......
  3. Booker is on the mend. They were able to do the keyhole surgery, removed around 10 stones. They will be cultured to find out what type and also been sent away to the states for analysis. Happy they are removed and he is feeing better already :)
  4. I've thought about it and am more comfortable with the specialist. He is booked in tomorrow at the Qld Veterinary Specialists where they will keep him overnight and as it's an emergency vet also so someone is always there. They treated my other dog earlier this year and I was happy. I also called and spoke to a surgeon there who would be doing it, they may be able to do keyhole surgery if there's not too many..... And they also thought it should be done sooner rather than later as the one partially blocking his urethra could possibly have more block it completely and then his bladder could rupture.
  5. Thank you. I've just spoke to the normal vet and they would send him home that evening.....or refer to emergency if he didn't seem to be recovering well. Does that sound ok to have him home that night?
  6. Thanks guys. The vets don't know what type, as he needs to be off the antibiotics for a few days to be able to get a proper sample and then get it checked for what type. I'll call them today and book in the surgery, I don't want to risk it completely blocking. It just stresses me thinking of them opening him up. I did ask if he needed to be referred anywhere or if they would do it (just a regular vet practice) & they said fine to do there but if I wanted a referral they are happy to. What should I do? Go to the Qld vet specialists or let them do it? The vet was nice and said she has worked in emergency for 5 years prior to this.....
  7. Just picked Booker up from vet after his ultrasound, turns out he has bladder stones, & one in particular partial blocking his urine track. They given two options, surgery to remove or change his diet, & give some medication & hopefully they dissolve. Vet recommends surgery.
  8. I had Booker down the vet a week ago as noticed he was peeing a lot and when I looked closer noticed it was actually quite red. I brought a wee sample in for them and there said definitely an infection present. They gave him antibiotics which we haven't missed a single dose, I had been checking his pee and it was back to clear, but last night when he had only a little pee it was really red wee again, a fair bit of blood in it. He is going back to the vet this arvo, they checked over him well last time, he doesn't seem hurt and sick, but this isn't normal. He is entire and they did check prostate and said was all fine. How long has your male dog taken to get over a UTI? How do they get them in the first place?
  9. My girl had this in January, it's been a long recovery and I don't think she will ever be the same, but she is much better, it's probably only me that can see the difference in her now as I know her so well. They could find no reason for this to happen.... All the best for your girl
  10. Thanks. Spinal tap came back with no meningitis. They have sent MRI to a radiologist for a second opinion as they have said possibly she has a small stroke. I won't hear back about that until Monday. If not that then maybe idiopathic vestibular disease (but they have said the facial paralysis doesn't really fit). She has come home yesterday afternoon as was stressed out there, so I've slept downstairs with her all night. Today she is seeming a little better and her face doesn't seem as droopy, but maybe I am just getting use to it? Frustrating not to have some concrete answers and not being able to do anything to make her feel better. Just a lot of rest. She only seems calm when she is laying down. Poor thing I wish I could help her.
  11. Thanks everyone. Still waiting
  12. Thanks Snook. Vet has called and said that MRI didn't show any large masses which is good, she has also given Eva a spinal tap and should have results from that tomorrow morning. She is staying there overnight which gives me some comfort that if anything else happens that's the best place for her to be.
  13. Thank you. At the moment the vet is suggesting along the lines of brain mass or meningitis..... Still waiting for a call.
  14. Eva is at the specialist vet right now having an MRI. I'm so worried about her. I've just returned from 3 weeks holiday this morning and taken her straight to the vet (a different one from below) who has referred her to the specialist. My mum was looking after both dogs and about 9 days ago took Eva to the local vet as her lip looked droopy and they just said old age (she is 7). Then mum took her back on Saturday as she was not wanting to jump on lounge, etc. and they just gave her anti-inflammatorys and said to rest. Then last night mum called the emergency vet as Eva wouldn't go up the stairs to have dinner, they said if she was eating and drinking and toileting to just see how she goes. (She ate when mum bought her food downstairs). I get home this morning after 3 weeks, booker runs out to say hello but Eva won't get off the lounge, I could see that she wanted to and was excited to see me but was hesitant to jump off. I've looked at her and can just tell something is not right. Her face looks funny, she is leaning to one side, really unsteady on her feet. It's awful. I'm sitting waiting for the call to see what the MRI has found..... Has anyone else been through this?
