The main thing for now is I am able to access the important folders I needed and make backups of them. In this case there were a couple of folders I hadn't had a chance to (normally I try to have 2-3 copies of everything). Once I have grabbed the stuff I need we will be formatting the drive and buying new ones as well.

We have success!!!!!!!! Thankyou to OH's fiddling and a disk check that ran for 24 hours my data is safe. Going to have a celebratory dinner tonight.

You can also play around with the canvas size and increase it to your taste and give it a colour. That is how I do simple borders. Beautiful horse!

LOL - Millie is gorgeous  For a little dog she doesn't look like a little dog if you know what I mean. Especially like the 3rd shot.

Still going

Not big dry food users here, certainly not daily and even then I like to mix it with sardines, vegies, cheese etc. Am very interested in trying the Uncle Albers, but does it only come in the large bags? Am concerned about buying quantities of dry to find we are stuck with it. This happened to my girl when we tried Eagle Pack. She didn't like it and didn't thrive on it (I had got some bags at a pet expo). I couldn't even get a refund for the unopened bags so had to divvy it up and give to other dogs and feed my girl some heavily disguised just to get through it

The disk check is STILL running, has been going all night. It is about 3/4 the way through Phase 4, hope its nearly finished

My other half is running a disk check on it, its taking a long time, all fingers crossed though. Got your message Persephone, thanks. Will see what the go is after this disk check process.

OH has plugged the drive into one of his laptops and can see a lot more folders than what I could see, very strange!

Thanks, Luke. Checking it out now! Do you know if any of that software can be purchased locally?
-
Thanks P, yes I know that is possibly/probably an option but want to know if that is my only option as I don't know any computer shops personally. At the very least I would like to know what to expect, perhaps from others who have had similar issues. I don't want to go getting ripped off. Maybe if anyone knows of someone reputable in the Melbourne area who may be able to help? Or is there any software available to DIY? OH is reasonably cluey about building computers and other things but don't think he has done any data recovery stuff?

It has happened. One of my external hard drives has spat the dummy and computer is throwing up messages about corrupted drive, corrupted files etc. It is an 80 gig hard drive, when I click on properties it is showing as atleast 60 gig full. However when I go to look at the folders as thumbnails alot of the folders are missing, can't see them at all by refreshing or even rebooting. The folders that are showing (and are ok/accessible) equate to 36 gig. I don't even want to begin to think about what folders are missing, I just want to try and fix. What can I do?

It depends - with me - I rotate half a dozen batteries. Having missed some shots when using a half-charged or even a supposedly good battery I don't like to take any chances. Before a trip or project I charge them all up regardless of whether full, empty or half way (I have 3 chargers so it makes life easier).

Thanks Kirislin. ANYWAY, not to forget other dolers who love their photography and have NO DOUBT helped or inspired people: Nat/Tess32 PossumCorner (who jumped to action when I needed assistance covering events) Ripley for sending me lovely Outdoor Photography mags when I wasn't well.

So this isn't restricted to images taken during March?

Nice picture....Is that from one of "your" Kites, P? I was thinking about you today when I came across my sachet of red dirt... Bizarre you have posted a red dirt/bird picture eta: just remembered the red dirt came from cleaning our car after a trip to the mallee

What would be the challenge in actual letters? You could just sit there and photograph your keyboard and then upload one key at a time
-
Good luck, am thinking I might have to have another sabbatical, I did pretty good getting atleast half of the Feb one done

OT - You say you sell hi res discs - how do you get on with people printing your fine work on dodgy home printers? Does that concern you? Again, the results reflect on the photographer.

Not sure what you are using at the moment but when I do proofs I generate them as sheets with photoshop and they are quite small  Sometimes I will stamp them with "proof only" and sometimes I won't. It is so easy for people to copy/use images that are a decent size eg postcard size or bigger - why ever would they want to bother to PAY the photographer for their work??? Do you include any copyright information/requirements when you issue proofs? So many people think if its out there it can be downloaded and used at will. The symbol © means nothing to a lot of people

"tree" (thinking about it...climbing up...up/hanging on!)

This can be my submission for "mobile" - a goanna on the move at a campground we were visiting. Yes that pink thing is his tongue.

From our recent quick getaway to far east Gippsland - these can be my 'landscape' ones

I think slightly more contrast in the first shots also.
