Monitor colour is a whole other issue LOL. Do you have another screen/computer you can view these images on, if not tonight maybe over the weekend? You may be surprised how different images can look on different computers! -

Curious as to how your own monitor is set up (calibrated) if you think the pictures arent good re the colours etc because to me they look pretty good. -

Huh??? The images look ok to me (rubs eyes and rubs them again). The middle one shows blur - I think because the pup is moving?? (the ladder or whatever the object is in the bottom corner is pretty clear) -
No advice P, just positive thoughts and fingers crossed

It is odd to see eBay running ads for Gumtree on their front page

Need to try a fisheye for some funky/fun distortion. I had one for a while.

Ripley: I had a similar experience in Bali with the wild monkeys! We were told that if a monkey grabs your stuff to just let them have it! No way was I going to let any monkey thief help themselves to my gear. Silly monkey ended up with someone's smokes and 'pretended' to smoke one

KBZ: it could be a number of things...lens....photographer error....flat light....contrast/brightness issues (this kind of thing can be tweaked in an image editing program afterwards). You might see images from others that make your jaw drop, but how do you know they havent been made to look a certain way in an image editing program such as photoshop? -
Ruger, or others....do any of you use a Nikon D90?

Heck I must be going through a mid life crisis, feeling I want to "downgrade" and get a good point n shoot because I am sick of lugging heavy gear around -

It is amazing how many people feel they "have" to go out and get the latest and greatest model to take good pictures. Sometimes all it takes is experimenting with other lenses, practice and improving your own technique. -

Why not try some other/better lenses with your current body and see how you go? -

Think I am with KJA on this one, based on someone I trust who used/compared both. Really, Canon should be responsible for getting their lenses right especially if you are plonking down a couple grand. Next they will have cameras that can apparently do the dishes -
Thinking about this more, and based on what I have done in the past, I think I would be offering them some nicely finished prints and some web versions for their personal use. A couple of freebies or if they want a bunch, do a "deal" with them.
-
To elaborate, I would much prefer to arrange a nice print myself at a pro lab I am familiar with rather than just give away a hi-res file that might be printed on a cheap home printer and look pretty ordinary.
-
Hi-res files = negatives in my opinion, so NO. I do think it is fair to give them 'something' if they ask, a nice print or photo product? (mind you not all ask or expect it, some are just flattered for their dog to be used).

2) Lens is focusing on a small bird in a tree, back back to compose shot a bit better. Turn around and 4 feet from me curled up but now awakened - a Tiger snake
-
1) Some months back I visited a bird hide - a rare bird had been visiting and there was lots of talk amongst birdos. The hide was packed with admirers, some had flown from interstate. Everyone was quiet and still as the bird came into view. I had just changed my lens and one was resting on the bench seat. Lens roll roll rolling BANG!!!!!!!! (it fell). I stood there in shock and waiting for everyone to abuse me and the rare bird to be frightened off. I looked up, the bird had not flinched and people continued on with their quiet birdwatching LOL. The lens was fine and I got great shots, everyone was in good spirits but it could have been a disaster.

If that is a Nikon entry-level model then I am impressed. Nice images, Snap.

"they do not have quite the invasive appearance of a zoom" This I would agree with and if I wasn't so interested in wildlife photography I would HAPPILY use small, black prime lenses. I have been having a little break from telephoto photography because of some neck/shoulder problems! If I was mainly interested in portraiture, the smaller prime would win for sure. But if I was travelling somewhere with minimal equipment allowed, the 70-200 would be the one. In fact Id probably even forego the 2.8 or the IS/VR to make it a lighter lens to drag around all day ;-)
