  1. I agree 100% with what lovemesideways said. Get someone to assess her, for your sanity. There is a lot of expertise on these forums and a lot of people with a lot of years of dogs under there belts, but none of them were down at the park to see the incident or see your dog. She may be giving you some signs or symptoms that you are misreading and the poodle may have done something that you didn't see. You may have an aggressive dog or you may have a dog that hates this one particular dog, yet loves every other one. So you know where you stand and what you can and can't do with your dog, have someone assess and help you both.
  2. Some dobies are big puppies and then slow right down and average out later. I remember my boy as a baby puppy being twice the size of the other Dobie babies. We're now 2 1/2 and a very average size for a Dobie.
  3. Interesting yes, I'm liking it as I am allowed to write it in my own words (have done Uni before and don't have to use Uni language). I've had the first 2 units assessed and both times I've had it emailed back to me in 4 1/2 days (ie. the last one I sent off late Sunday night, acknowledged they had it, Monday afternoon and back to me Friday night). I've passed all questions so far. With some comments on some questions both good and bad. The last one, they said they would like to see some more research, so we'll see what happens as time goes on. Through their website, they advertise businesses of people who's already done their courses. I contacted a girl in Melbourne and asked her a whole heap of questions and felt a lot better about it after that. I'm doing it that I have payed by instalments.
  4. I'm doing the BCCS one now, I'm up to unit 3 and while this unit hasn't given me a lot of reading to do, the questions they're asking me to answer are going to take a bit of research. It's been good so far, I'm doing the Practitioner one, even though I won't be able to do the practical bit.
  5. Argh! Why?! My Aussie does this. As soon as I let her out she finds the hottest possible spot and just bakes there. I have to make her move as she has pink skin on her face and I don't want her to burn! I had to get one of my (late) boys desexed because of this, the amount of times he would have sunburnt testes and then walk around like John Wayne... But then he would go back and do it again the next day.
  6. Where do people recommend the best place to buy the Super Fuel?
  7. Whitka contact the breeder via email, with what your life is like and what you are interested in a Dobie. Let them know when you are looking at a puppy (ie. if your not ready for at least a year...) and start the process off. Check what sort of health testing they do with their dogs and check if any if their previous litters have done what your looking for. If you don't go in demanding, most breeders are proud to talk about their dogs. :)
  8. Ok then, what are you looking for in a dog, do you just want a pet, are you planning on showing, doing dog sports, doing schutzhund or any other sports? There are a lot of different Dobie types in Australia and they all do different things. But a lot of dogs, can do all of the above, they won't be brilliant at anything, but bring a lot of fun to the families who own them.
  9. Sorry, I check in there once in a blue moon, what do you want to know
  10. There's quite a few trainers and clubs that run at the Dogs West grounds, all days during the week. Maybe contact them.
  11. They're doing the rounds at the moment, they even called my silent number. Soon as I heard Microsoft I hung up on them. I hope poor Microsoft never has to ring me as they won't get through.
  12. Another one who owns dobies and thinks they're a normal size, I want to be able to not have to bend. But my daughter owns a Tenterfield Terrier and she can jump into your arms, so she feels super tiny.
  13. Yes please, those ones are cuter. I'll take it, but I'm on an oil rig right now and would need someone to pick it up for me. I'll send the money through Western Union as soon as you give me details.
  14. This is what your offering me as a short haired? What is THAT?? You were offering for sale cute fluffy things, that is just damned ugly, maybe I just better go for those other ones your competitors are selling, they looked smooth haired...
  15. I don't like long coated breeds, can you please keep an eye on a throwback to their smooth coated variety?
  16. I find it the same with dobies and rotties, but I think it's the bulk or fine thing there. You either hear them say they like the bulkier head and body of the rottie or the fineness of the dobie.
  17. Check out Rod Scott Petographer, he's doing sessions somewhere on the Gold Coast.
  18. Having a Dogue go through it, check his prostate
  19. Animal hotline is 1300 ANIMAL, this gets you to the rescue van, I have used it quite a few times to report a possum ect that needs help.
  20. I'm a Teachers Aide and so don't abide by it at all and soon as I know it's happening, I will step I'm to stop it. But there are some children who just seem to get attacked for bullying all of the time. Sometimes they have a disability (which NASTY kids seem to like) but sometimes they appear to be a normal kid. My friend's son, is one of these children who seems to cop it from all directions and to look at both in looks and mannerisms, you can't see why. It's not until you listen to him, when he runs his mouth off, sometimes with silly childish dribble, sometimes with lies (that other children see through) and other times talking so fast you can't understand him. In trying to help him, when asked why he does it, he answers he's trying to look cool and knowledgable in front of the other kids??? Maybe it's the same with dogs, maybe there are just some dogs at the bottom of the pecking order and hopefully they grow out of it??
  21. Set up the situation with some friends who you know will listen and do what you want them too. Bring them in the house the right way, and distract your dog as they're doing it. Then really heap the praise on the dog for doing the distraction rather than the problem. Send the visitors outside and start again. Do it 4 or 5 times in one session and then organise another session another time soon. Keep giving him rewards when he does it right, so he starts wanting those rewards more than he wants to jump on people. When he's hitting it on the head every time, with the sensible visitor, then introduce one non sensible visitor and go through the process again, but be further away, so you can do the distraction more easily than the nonsensible friend can. BIG heaps of praise for this!!
