Staffords Being Made A Restricted Breed In Vic?
DobieMum replied to parrotpea's topic in General Dog Discussion
What's even more scarey was the report on the news tonight. Pitbull owners have until September 30th to register their dogs after this the dog catchers are allowed to go house to house and look over your fence, if they deem you have a pitbull they are allowed to seize it, then and there. HOW do they deem its a pitbull?????? -
In October we're going to be driving from Brisbane to Townsville. There will be two adults and two children and I'll have the dog trailer with 1 adult dobermann and 1 dobermann and 1 tenterfield pup. Looking to try to book into somewhere to stop overnight, doesn't have to be flash, just somewhere that my dogs aren't going to be a problem. We're willing to stop anywhere from Rocky to Mackay. Any ideas??

Thanks Tdierikx Dogmad we're mostly tiles(other than the carpeted area, which we're going to get professionally cleaned shortly), so I can use that mix. Thanks

Thanks for your answers, I was thinking this, but hoping there might be something else as well that I haven't tried. Has she been given the all clear by a vet? Just in case it is a medical problem. Yes we have, I've discussed it with him and he checked her for me and came back all clear. Clean the areas she has toileted thoroughly with an enzyme based cleaner and drop some lavender oil around the spot. Thankyou, I didn't know about the lavender, they obviously aren't impressed by this? How old was she when bought from the pet shop. No idea, when I was talking to the owners about taking her and they mentioned Pet Shop my OH steered the conversation away real quick, cause he saw the look on my face. I'm going to get there in the end, cause she's well worth persisting with, she's been perfect with my son in all other areas and gets on well with my big guys. I really appreciate your help

Sorry thought other one didn't work, couldn't find it. Ignore this one!!

The background of this pup, she is a Tenterfield Terrier and she is a pet shop puppy, but I did not buy her. The people who bought her already had a Jack Russell and thought they would get on so well, he tried to kill her first meeting. I was looking for a small dog for my son (he's a tiny 8 year old) and heard about her and took her. She's been great with my son, we've done obedience with her at home which she's picked up pretty quick and we start obedience with her tonight. She's about 6 months and fitted in here perfectly (even putting up with my big dogs) other than her toileting habits. She will go anywhere, anytime and doesn't matter what surface, my back patio is a fantastic place, she seems to think. Things I've tried, if i've caught her, I've rushed her to the place I want her to go and praised her for going there. I've made sure she was outside after playing, eating and drinking. I've even tried crating her, but she's just gone in there and slept with her back to it. When she goes inside (and this is both peeing and pooing) she seems to find somthing to do it on, which I am putting back to being in a pet shop. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated, cause I've run out of them. I realise she's probably been puppy farmed and this is probably the cause, but I need solutions not flaming. Please.

Another Brand Of Dog Food "rotations"
DobieMum replied to Shmurps's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
It was me who put the thread up for the Rotations food and it was a good quality product. Just be careful to check the Best Before date. The people I was buying it off were selling it after this date and weren't advertising the fact, hence why I have stopped using it. Supposidly legally you can still sell it after the best before date, just not a used by date............ Back to Rotations, it was a good product and my dogs did well on it. -
all we know is that they are now registered to him in victoria she has signed nothing, but apparently as they werent registered in sydney only chipped he can do that? Definitely not true. If the dog is chipped to her then it's her dog. Doesn't matter if she's registered it or not The reason he has been able to do this is that in NSW we have our own register that no other states use. He would have put the chip up on the register used in VIC. Does she have her microchip paperwork still? This can be used as proof that she owned the dog originally. If not get her to call a Council in NSW and she will be able to get a copy sent out to her. If your just talking about registration at the pet registery, I was given this information when I recently changed my pups microchip detailes. If I apply on the registration form and pay the transfer fee, my pup will be transfered into my name. The old owner will be contacted, but if she didn't sign the form within 2 weeks, further action would be taken resulting in the dog being recognised as mine, by her microchip detailes.

Does Anyone Know If Any Dog Parks In Ipswich
DobieMum replied to SueM's topic in General Dog Discussion
Check out the one at Booval, I'm pretty sure it does. -
it just sounds like to me that someone maybe in VCAT has a vested interest in these operations i was thinking that the other day, because time after time other councils didn't want farms in their shires and refuse to give the operators a licence so when it gets to VCAT they always over turn it - the farmers always get their licence in the end. it says that the shire in Ballan did not want any puppy farms and the residents don't want any puppy farms but still they are all forced to have this puppy farm. my own shire where i currently live says there are no puppy farms in the region as well. but looking at that and reading it i thought i bet ya there are still farms here that are ofcourse not licenced so technically under the radar keeping it quiet. That just maybe because people have a right to free enjoyment of their own property - this is a right handed down to all of us from way back in the Magna Carter signing and assuming they dont break any animal cruelty laws they have a right to breed dogs on their property. Its only a licence for 50 dogs and they are dong all they are being told to do to comply with development applications and mandatory codes - its called innocent until you do something wrong - not stop everyone doing what they want to do in case they do something wrong. The people who are protesting arent even affected by what is happening and dont even live in that shire.Do you really think that anyone is going to over turn the decisions because of this. The only outcome can be to scare anyone else of being out in the open and applying for their approvals. People actually don't have a right to do what they want on their own property. I'm talking about 20 years ago here, my family owned a boarding kennels (no breeding involved lol), we lived in an industrial estate, with railway shunting yards on one side of us and a trucking yard on the other side of us. Further back there was car wrecking yards and then cattle land for the meat works, there was another kennels down the road and a privately owned petrol station. The meat works shut down and the land was sold off to developers and housing estates were moved in. Slowly but surely we were all chased out (other than the shunting yards, that was government and to big an industry) by the residences. The council came to impose more and more restrictions on us, until it was cheaper for us to just leave. The final straw came for us when the council told us we had to rip up the old septic system and put a new one in and pull down our fences that surrounded the kennels and have a 6 foot brick fence built. We only had 30 kennels, we didn't have enough clientel to warrent spending this much money. Sometimes peer pressure from groups can win!!

http://oscarslaw.org/ There's a youtube at the bottom of the page of the 7pm project, they cross to a RSPCA Inspector who actually pushes for Reputable breeders. Worth a look

I have a foot sitter, but more of a problem I have a lap dog!! Edited to add photo, it didn't make sense without it!

Hey Muso, you said somewhere in there, you were worried about dobies and kids. This is my son playing with my bitch Opal who then was about 2 years old. Please excuse the Better Homes and Gardens going in the background. It all depends how you bring the dogs and kids up, bring them up together and they will love and play together.

Hi BenT I usually start at the bottom end of the scale and play around with it. Usually with dry food, you can tell really quickly (I wish you could tell as quick with humans ) and then go from there. Adding more or less as the dog needs. Stand over the dogs back and look at them, if their a bit to ribby, add more and if their a bit on the plump size add less. The other thing to take into account, is if you still have a puppy he needs 2/3 meals a day. So what the bag tells you, you need to spread it out to 2/3 meals (eg.185 / 3 = roughly 61g per feed). If your really struggling with this ask your vet for help. Please make sure it's a decent quality feed though.

I got mine from http://www.thebarfshop.com.au/shop/index.php?cPath=119_112 they do delivery and at the moment they are putting in a free ramp, which I also got and it makes life a lot easier. Checking the website their $2599. I got mine last year and it's going great guns and their quite happy for you to give them a ring and question them on things. I wasn't doing something properly and rang them and sorted the problem in 5 minutes.

Ours is a combination of our names Paul and Michelle, we thought it sounded cool and only sent that one off, with the thought of oh well if they knock it back, they knock it back. Luckily for us it was excepted!

Looking For Feedback From Dog Trainers
DobieMum replied to Jessegirl's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
The only other thing I can add to what everyone else has said, is keeping the belt flat agaist my body, there's nothing I hate more than running around the agility ring and having the belt pockets flapping.
