I wrote another post on this girl awhile back on her toileting issues, that seemed to have fixed itself by: I have had to move into the outlaws for awhile, so the dogs are in the dogtrailer. She doesn't seem to want to mess in there, maybe it's to enclosed, we'll see how she goes when we move back into a proper home. Thanks for everyones help on that one, now I have a new problem for everyone. A bit of history on her: She is a pet shop puppy - no I didn't get her from there, I bought her off her owners cause their dog wanted to kill her. She's had some sort of abuse in the past and is very timid cause of it and Men are the worst, she's really fearful of them. My husband has worked hard with her and now if you drop her in his lap she wil take any pats he will give her, but she won't come to him. The bloke we picked her up off seemed alright, but maybe I read him wrong?? She trains well for food and has learnt everything we've asked of her, sit, down ect. My daughter is really enjoying teaching her agility and she's obviously enjoying it, cause when off lead here, she hangs close to my daughter. But any other time, onlead she will come, but she's not happy about it, even though she gets heaps of praise. But offlead, she won't come and if you go to her, she will drop to the ground and cower. If I'm sitting out on the lawn playing with my dobie boy, she MIGHT come over and join us, but then the submissive licking starts. She gets on fine with dogs, it's just humans that she has issues with and it's cowering rather than aggressive and it's only the coming when she's called. If my daughter wants to teacher her a new trick, she really wants to learn and they both love the agility as I said. What does everyone think???? Here's Cinder at the beach, notice the long line.

I can help with an answer for some kennels here in Qld, including the RSPCA. During the floods last year, in the prep for it, someone put out a call for people with dog trailers or ways of transporting dogs (I know a fridge van turned up) to contact a number. We were co-ordinated to turn up to specific kennels and we took as many dogs as possible and moved them to other kennels, that weren't going to flood. I think 5 kennels plus the RSPCA were moved in this way. It did take someone co-ordinating it though.

Another way I used to teach the wait for food. Is to block her out of the area I am going to feed her, put the bowl down and then go to where she is and put a lead and collar on and open the area to feed her. If she lunges at the bowl, WAIT. Sometimes this first go will take awhile with her pulled like a demented thing on the lead. Once she settles and starts to look at you, Praise her and take one step closer to the bowl. The whole process probably will start all over again have patience, she will settle quicker. Stop this process just out of reach of the bowl and this time when she settles ask her to sit (praise her for the sit) and ask her to wait (maybe for 5 seconds) and then give her a release command for the food. Mines just "OK" Do this every night and she will automatically start to sit and wait for her food and wait for the command.

These are great thanks Rachiie, but the kids are keen on camping, is there any camp sites around, google's not coming up with anything until Clairview and that's a bit far north for one trip.

This sort of thing really gets to me. I think people involved in these fields really need to know what they're talking about. That kind of flippant arrogance can lead to disaster. Even if they were to utilise a breed chart it would be better than guessing. I regularly scan shelter adoption pages and the number of clear breed misindentifications I see is abominable. How is anyone to find their JRT if it's been labeled a Fox Terrier? I see crossbreeds labeled as staffies, Kelpies labeled as lab crosses (if it's not black and tan with pointy ears it can't be a Kelpie), plain old mutts being labeled as exotic breeds (some that don't even exist in Australia!) . . . it's mystifying. I would hate for my Schipp or my Kelpie to end up in some of these places. I could imagine she'd be a Chihuahua or Pom x and he (boofy headed show line dog) would be called a Shepherd or Lab x. Fortunately, they're not the straying types. However, if they did get out and someone held on to them and if I ever found out who they were I would push for 'theft by finding' and if that didn't work I'd be in touch with my lawyer. 3 years ago my two got out, they were a red staffy and a red dobermann, they ended up at the pound, but were there for 3 days before I found them. I had been ringing at least twice a day since day one, but kept getting told "No their not here" Turns out they were, none of them had seen a red dobermann before. Still charged me kenneling fee for all 3 days but.......

After Christmas we will be moving from Brisbane to Townsville and want to cut the drive in half and stay overnight. Rocky is about halfway but I don't mind driving a bit more. After somewhere we can camp. We'll have two cars (one with dog trailer) Two adults, 2 kids (10 and 8) and 2 pups that are used to sleeping in crates and are quiet. Any recommendations? Hoping for some local knowledge, like can't find Lake Monduran on any web pages, but know it to be a great camp ground, it's too early for us to pull up in. So any help please? :D

This is how my two play too, but with a lot of sound effects thrown in. If you didn't know my dogs you'd be worried about walking into my yard, but it's all play. edited cause I can't spell

Making It Work With Puppies And Babies
DobieMum replied to ncarter's topic in General Dog Discussion
I'm sorry, I've got to disagree with everyone. When my daughter was born (she's now 10), I didn't mean to (I'd been on a waiting list for awhile)but ended up with a dobie babie who was only 2 months younger. Now I had family support and my hubby was great with the dogs (we already had 2), but this little girl became my heart dog. I lost her last year and miss her greatly. It can be done and it can be done well, it just all depends on what the circumstances are. If she feels it's right, she'll make it happen. Chances are, you'll probably find she won't be able to get 2 pups so close together, I think many breeders will agree with you. -
How To Convince Someone To Not Buy A Puppy
DobieMum replied to pennysvn14's topic in General Dog Discussion
I agree with the post about rescue, see if you can point her in that direction, she may even find it's cheaper than $350 -
For those who are still thinking of buying stick in the ground weavers, check out prices for corner posts for footy fields, that's what I have and they were pretty cheap (sorry can't remember prices) it may be a cheaper option for you.

You've done a brilliant job and now there's 2 ways he could go, the school may train him or one of the boys or girls on the base may take him as an extra while their out doing there jobs (so they'll train there own dogs and then train the pup). If he passes or fails it has nothing to do with how you trained him (from the sounds of it you did a brilliant job), some pups are just suited to the job and others aren't. Thankyou for making my Hubby's life easier, have some fun, dip your feet in again. Another program people might be interested in is puppy play a friend of mine doesn't own her own dog, but she goes out to the base and does this and it's exactly what it sound like. Puppy play and a bit of puppy walking.

I have a 4 3/4 month old dobie running round with a 9 month old tenterfield terrier. When my dobie gets a little rough my tentie will tell him off and then go and be on her own, God help everyone if the dobie goes and annoys her until she's ready to come back!!

Girls and guys, I'm having a ball with this thread, keep them coming. To those worried about it being rude, think back to the times when you embarrass yourself and later on get with friends and very red facedly you repeat the story. It's all for fun, something to laugh about after the fact. I'm sure at the time, the owners of the dogs were mortified. My hubby is very prim and proper, and to put his head between another girls breasts, he was MORTIFIED. Now it's just a great story to tell.

Reading the Coolie story and reading tales about coppers, reminded me of a dog we had years ago. Me, my hubby (he was driving) and our 2 dogs were driving home from obedience training. Now one of our boys had a bad flatulence (sp) problem , so driving home it was windows down, windows up. Come round a corner is a female copper flagging us down for a RBT. Just as we pull up, dog lets one rip. Now we're talking the old wind down windows here so can take a few seconds. So my hubby winds down his window and shoves his head out, to get a breath of fresh air. Unfortunatly this female copper was on the short side and right where my hubby is putting his head is her...... Female copper steps back, REAL quick and has this look across her face that says my hubby isn't coming home tonight. So there's both me and my hubby (eye's watering) trying to explain. Luckily for us her face very quickly changed, to I don't know what, the smell had drifted. She burst into laughter, told us if we could put up with that, we obviously weren't drunk and sent us on our way. What has your dog done to embarrass you?

My kitchen is out of bounds to any of the dogs (puppies included). If they come in there, I all of a sudden start clapping my hands and loudly make nonsense noise, once their out they immediatly get praised and told what a good dog they are. My dobie puppy is now 16 weeks and knows the kitchen is out of bounds.
