  1. Now he's cleared take him back to the beach, see if he breaks out again. At least then, you can rule that out.
  2. It's the best of fun and the dogs have an absolute ball. I did it with my last Dobie and when I get back to Brisbane later this year, I'll take my new boy along and see how he likes it.
  3. Well said I've come from a dog breeding family and hopefully know about this and do my research carefully. But I've also owned boarding kennels and talk to most of Joe public and everything you've said above is true. Another point to make is a lot of pet puppy buyers still have the thought process "that the puppy picked us" they want to go see the litter (and Mum and Dad), sit with the litter and take their time picking the pup and then walk out with him/her tucked under their arms. It's a process that happens NOW. How do we fix human nature?
  4. Christina - what programme on channel seven was this on? Today Tonight? RSPCA animal rescue, I cried at the poodle born with no eyes, but kept alive to breed from.
  5. There's only one problem with the Bone Finding event and that's getting the dogs to the finishing line. All mine run away and hide lol.
  6. I used to walk my black and tan and red and tan dobies together and heard the comment "how could she want a child killer like that (black and tan) and then own a beautiful cross bred like that (red and tan). I wonder what's in her?" Little did they realize it was my black and tan one that was the biggest goofball and would have loved to have played with his kids!!
  7. I like OP have a Destructo dog, when it comes to dog coats and I came up with a maybe solution tonight that I want to try, but want your opinion on. What about the Thundershirts? Would they work for warmth? Cause as a side effect, it might settle him for the night. What do you recon? Cause it's going to cost me no more than what a dog coat will cost. Just means his rump might be cold.
  8. Hey Kaffy You made me laugh at least. This is about my 5th dobie and I find they're all like this until they grow up, I just wanted to see if there's any new ideas out there. I don't want to try the muzzle, only because I have a fence you can see through and I already have people going "Dobermann!!" and walking as far away as they can. If they saw a muzzle on him, they'd really be running away. Thankyou everyone for your comments. I've repaired his dog coat MIL has plenty of material and a good sewing machine. I made some changes, I sewed the neck totally up, so there's no gaps for him to get into and I took smooch's idea one step further and sewed on some bendable shower curtain wire onto the front to not give him anywhere to bite. We'll see how we go tonight. Cheers Shell
  9. He's got a warm kennel/dog trailer that he sleeps in and is very content there. It must be a dobie thing, cause my heart girl was a shocker too until she got to about 2 and a 1/2 to 3. Thankyou for all your replies so far, just seeing if there was any different ideas out there.
  10. Ive got a dobie and he shivers and shakes all night. He's not quite a year old. He needs a dog coat, but I've tried quite a few different designs and he chews the front of them and then shrugs out of them. Last night I tried a new idea and put my daughters headlice preventer (tea tree and eucalyptus) and it worked wonderful all night (was seen on him, fine at 5am - at 6am he had chewed the front and slipped out of it). Has anyone got any ideas to make a non destructive (via teeth) front of the coat, so he can wear it? He does need one.
  11. My guys were down the dog park 2 weekends ago and midway through last week they started coughing, even though they've had their vaccinations. A vet nurse friend told me they can still get it, just not as bad and that's correct cause by the weekend, they'd pretty much cleared up. There are 2 other dogs on this property though that aren't vaccinated (I didn't find this out till now) and one of them seems to have it really bad. 2 questions, one did they pick it up from the ground, or did one of the other dogs from the dog park have it. And 2, What is really bad, is it only the coughing, like they're trying to get something that is stuck, out of their throat and so they sick up, or am I watching for some other sign that it's gotten worse? Thanks the first time I've dealt with KC
  12. I'm not naming vets but it was one in Townsville and it happened quite a few years ago, but I had one of my boys in for a desexing and while he was under I asked the vet to X-Ray him for HD. The vets forgot and so then asked me to run him outside and watched him running and then pronounced 100% yep, he was going to have issues. My boy had just been desexed, do you think you'd run properly in that instance. That was the last time I went back there.
  13. Hi Chequeredblackdog. :) Border Collie cross. Surely not. You need lots of sun to make white coats shine. There are iridescent shampoos available, but I let my dogs shine naturally. I think you may have the breeds wrong. Regards Px My Mother-In-Law has a pure bred Cream border collie and Max looks a lot like this guy, definatly the wavy coat. I know he's pure bred, cause my Hubby and myself brought him from friends and he's registered. I think this guy looks very BC.
  14. I'm just *bumping* this conversation up, cause I find it fascinating. I can't help with a comment, cause I've done no research on this as I hadn't thought of it at all, but I will consider it all now.
  15. I'd love to use this option, but you have to have a certain amount of entire dogs, I have the Prefix, but only the 2 dogs at the moment.
  16. Thanks for the help guys. Looks like it might be Bonnie, I used to use it, but then went a bit more upmarket with dog food, so I'll try it again. Appreciate the comments, was wondering if there was something new out there.
  17. No for the Dogue, the signitures old and I haven't changed it yet, suppose I ought to. I don't even have that dobie anymore. Edited to fix signiture problem
  18. Hi, I need some help. I've been feeding my guys Royal Canin. But the purse stings have been tightened (really tight) and so now, I'm looking for a mid range product (around the $50 mark for at least 15 kgs). I'm in the far north, so unless I can buy it from the local petstores, or horsefeed stores, I have to have the price of shipping built into it. I have a large breed dog and a small breed, they also get any table scraps and bones at least once a week, plus my big boy gets fish oil. Any ideas?
  19. Do a count of all the letters including the prefix and the spaces. The likes of Qld you can only have 30 spaces all up, if you had 31 they would choose a letter that would suit to go.
  20. I found it didn't smell to much, the only rule is not to put the compost on any food trees.
  21. I use both down and drop for the down position, depends what mood I'm in on the day.
  22. Thanks I give the new word a go and see if that changes things. The clicker training,Iwe have done, hence why when on a lead it all works, might have to start again off lead at the beginning and work from there, hopefully she'll come round.
  23. Thanks I hadn't thought of that, I'll give Rescue remedy a go tomorrow and see if it helps.
  24. I use this one, it's the SA form, but no-ones knocked it back yet. http://www.doverdog.org.au/entryforms.html
