Hi Sheltiesrule, Pics must be under 40 kb in size to be posted here. You can use the "Stretch & Skew" feature in Paint (it's under the Image menu) to reduce the size. If you can't work it out you can email the pics to me and I'll shrink them for you (I'll PM you my email address). Cheers, Corine

A lot of Collie people use Glycerine and talc (me included). I've heard Glycerine is hard to obtain now (some terrorism related reason) but I just bought it from the chemist. At first I tried applying the Glycerine and then the talc, later I found that mixing the talc into the glycerine first (into a paste) was far less messier. With my boy it didn't work but I think I started on him too late. I even tried Val-A fabric glue (available from GoneToTheDogs) after a month of that the ears shot up again after a few days. My baby girl's ears shot up for a couple of days so I was right on it, the Glycerine worked a treat this time. A breeder friend of mine uses the Whiting powder, a specialist hardware store might be able to get this for you. You must stay on top of it, right through teething if needs be. If the ears are well rounded at the tips and of good length you should be able to fix them. Some have said my boy has Sheltie ears, they are quite pointed at the tips, perhaps why they stayed up. Cheers, Corine

Thanks Antionette and everyone else on this thread who has sent their well wishes, much appreciated! Duncan is back from the vet, very groggy but happy to be home. Poor lad had to have an enema before his procedure as the "Colon Lightly" did not do the trick. You try squirting a litre of revolting tasting liquid into a dog one syringe at a time. No way know he would drink it by himself . The specialist has done a number of biopsies which will take a while to come back. He found some inflammation but nothing specific. He suspects Inflammatory Bowel Disease but we shall have to wait and see. The scariest thing about this is the weight loss, he's down to 18.1 kgs and my 6 mth old pup weighs more. Fingers crossed it is nothing really serious . Cheers, Corine

Or you could get one of those self filling water dishes which you connect up to a hose or plastic soft drink bottle. That way the water isn't sitting in it all day. Cheers, Corine

Hi Lynne, Hugs to you tonight, a Collie never leaves your heart. I lost my Dana girl about 2 years ago too, seems like only yesterday she was lying at my feet. Regards, Corine

Hi KL, Tis good to see Chloe looking so happy, good luck with the x-rays . Duncan has had no problems with his leg since being given the all clear, him and the baby run each other ragged . Duncan has to have another anasthetic tomorrow, not related to his leg though. He's having an endoscopy/colonoscopy to try to determine the cause of his recurrent diarrheoa and weight loss. Poor lad's not even 2 yet, small wonder he hates the vet surgery now . Cheers, Corine

National Flyball Championships Melbourne
fido666 replied to 2tollers's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
Hi 2Tollers, "Pets In The Park" is on at Wattletree Park in Malvern on Saturday. I was planning to go to that as it's local and they usually have some flyball there. I am wondering now if they will since I would expect the flyball people to be at the champs. Is that the Highland Games at Maroondah High School? Cheers, Corine -

I have Nova 5 Star trimming scissors. They work like a treat but had a price tag to make your eyes water . Cheers, Corine -
I got a sample of the Meaty Muesli at Pet Expo and the dogs love it. My sample didn't have ingrediants listed so I have no idea what's in it. It's only been 1 sachet so far so no harm done. There are so many different foods out there, everyone has their favourites. I use Nature's Gift Tender Cuisine as training treats, the dogs love them too. Cheers, Corine

Rest easy dear old Rastus 16yo is a good old age for a Collie Wizard1, my Dana only lived till 14.5 yo but had a bad heart the last 6 months of her life. It doesn't make it any easier but please let Scruffy know that Rastus had a good innings and is at peace now ;) . Regards, Corine

Thanks for posting the links Mooper. The listing for Collie Rough says " 8,10,(12,18double)", does anyome know what the "double" part of the reference means? Cheers, Corine

I have an 18 blade one for my Collies but haven't used it yet. I got this size on the recommendation of the Clipper World people at Pet Expo. Any other Rough Collie owners out there who use one? Cheers, Corine

I too have 2 double coated dogs. One gets a lttle more attention than the other because she is being shown. Her coat is jet black and shiny as, I just wish it wouldn't go wavy when I bath her. I use Squirt Puppy shampoo on her, followed by Squirt Conditioner. When blow drying for a show I put some Plush Puppy Volumiser in but just use this as a grooming spray rather than working the cream through her coat. She doesn't have a great deal of undercoat so I try to add some volume there. We bath the day before the show to get all the slobber out of her coat (my 2 play like Cujos all the time), we also brush and do any little trimming jobs that might be required as it saves prep time at the show. Mu boy is kept looking tody but doesn't get the full show groom every week. I usually wash him in Squirt Shampoo for Dogs (the general one), followed by Squirt Conditioner as I still have samples left from Pet Expo last year :D . I have also used Joseph Lyddy Show Shampoo (for Horses, Dogs, and Goats) because it lathers up really nice and goes a long way. I give him a good brush and trim his feet but don't try and fluff up his coat as there's really no point. He has a Blue Merle coat which isn't shiny but still healthy. Cheers, Corne

Hi Tristan, Like everyone else has said, don't stress Flossie is just a baby. I have one who hangs on till she gets home but I wish I could get her to toilet on her walk, at shows, etc. She will go on coammand at home most times but doesn't like going on lead me thinks. Cheers, Corine -

Hi Malleerr, Sorry to hear about your set back with Mallee . Duncan was a baby too when he did his leg, it's so hard when they are so young and can't do all the normal puppy things. You mentioned Mallee had been swimming, was she seen by a Physio before she started. I ask because our Physio consulted with the surgeon who advised no swimming for the 1st 6 weeks after the op but that the underwater treadmill was OK. Is it possible Mallee has pinched a nerve? I've had lower back pain myself and it is not fun, imagine a poor dog who can't tell you where it hurts . Duncan had a full physio consult before his 1st UT session just to make sure he had sufficent ROM to handle it. The 1st session they had to go in with him as he kept going sideways when the idea is to stay straight. By the 3rd session he had worked out that if he pulled up all 4 paws he could float, lazy bugger . They said he is only the 2nd dog out of hundreds who have used the UT to work that out, the other was a Golden Retriever. Tell your surgeon something is not right, don't think you are being a pest. Chin up, Corine

I am also saddened by the news NAO  . Faced with such a tough choice I don't know how I would react. You saved your boy from any more pain, he is at peace now. Run like the wind Ernie  Regards, Corine
