Delta Good Citizens 2005-2006
fido666 replied to Mel774's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
Hi Mel774, My Puppy Preschool and Canine Basics trainer is a Delta instructor. I have already sounded her out about working with her as she runs her own training school. I have trained dogs for years but learned the old check chain method without food rewards or clickers. The positive reinforcement method has been a learning experience for me and I hope to take my knowledge further through this course. Hopefully one day I can use these skills for employment, even if I don't it will benefit me and my dog. See you in March, Corine -
Delta Good Citizens 2005-2006

Hi all, I enrolled in the Delta course last week, was wondering if any other DOLers had. My boy is only 8mths old and has just had major leg surgery so probably will not be coming. I was told I would have to apply for an exemption but then found out they don't take dogs under 12mths old anyway. I am nervous about the study as I work full time but it's something I've always wanted to do. If any recent grads can shed their insights I am sure we would all appreciate it. regards, Corine -
Can someone tell me what this "Leo Squirt Stuff" is? thanks, Corine

Hi Steve (K9Force), I have emailed you as I am interested also. I am an Obediance training junkie but there is always something new to learn! regards, Corine -
RIP Junior and Tiny. Till you meet your master at the bridge one day run and be free from pain. Perhaps you will meet my old girl Dana (14yo when she went to the bridge), you can all be young again together. regards, Corine

Hi, I have taken my boy to Puppy Preschool at my local vet's with my puppy (who I did not get till he was 10 weeks old). Early socialisation is the key, I once had a hand reared pup who I could not socialise and he ended up with fear aggression. All pups at preschool had had their first vac at least and the room was a separate one, not even used for consults. Mine was run by an ex-vet nurse now a qualified dog trainer and well worth the money. regards, Corine

Hi Ashley, Sorry George could not help you. A breeder friend of mine swears by this man - Barry Haywood 745 North Road, Cranbourne South 59 785174. He is a vet/chiro but I have not yet been to see him myself. I spoke to him on the phone about my puppy's broken leg as it's not healing as well as I'd like, he seemed quite knowledgeable about the particular injury my pup has. I have never heard of "Wobblers Syndrome", it sounds awful. Regards, Corine

Hi Ashley, George is wonderful though I have not been to see him for some years. He has been working with greyhounds, racehorses, and all manner of dog breeds for years. I will share a personal story with you. I had a collie years ago who was diagnosed with spondilytis (not sure of spelling), which is spinal arthritis (she was 7yo at the time). My vet said she would not be able to walk in 3 months and to have her euthanased. Of course I could not do this so went to a specialist who said the same thing. A friend at my dog club told me about George so off I went. Well, George worked on the ususual bits (neck, shoulders, legs, etc) and then got to her spine. He told me it was twisted, had been so for some time and did not know if he could fix it. After a while I heard a crack and my dog screamed (not yelped), I'd never heard a dog do this before. Every Greyhound in the place wet itself! It sounds horrible I know but when he was finished my dog smiled, shook herself and trotted off like she hadn't a care in the world. She lived another few years, it was gastro that got her in the end not her spine. regards, Corine

I had an older unspayed bitch with a similar problem (although she also had an odour and was flat for 3 days). Turned out she had Pyometra and had to have a hysterectomy. I say again she was older, about 7 years, not a pup. If in doubt check it out! Regards, Corine

My pup (6mths old) gets Supercoat Puppy for lunch each day. I mix it with Pal Puppy Milk and some bread and microwave for 30 secs to get the fridge chill off the milk, he gobbles it down. If I leave a bowl of it out dry he hardly touches it! For training I have had to resort to Hill's Science Diet Puppy as it's much more aromatic than the supercoat. The Hill's is about 5 times the price though! He's been on the Supercoat since he was weaned so I guess he's gotten used to it. Regards, Corine Duncan's mum
