  1. Thanks guys, she started standing around day 11 - 12 and its now day 21. Still standing (maiden bitch- 2nd season). Sigh, brought her home so now its the seperation routine.
  2. Yep a cattle dog. I am surprised at the length its grown in 1 week, considering it was done with a 40 blade. Must be 4 - 5mm already. I'm glad I learn't about the Royal Jelly for coat dropping time :)
  3. I don't have my prefix yet so can't ask this in the breeders section. Out of curiosity, and I know bitches are all different, but would a bitch standing at day 20 surprise you? or is it normal?
  4. Thanks :) Any other places that you know of? Just getting prices at the moment.
  5. Can someone point me in the direction of where to purchase a box and jumps please
  6. I had a quick go at Rally O and that was fun. If I can schedule it in Tess and I will enter.
  7. Posting the papers to you is quite normal, not all the ANKC paperwork is ready when the pups are 8 weeks old. Sorry if I missed it, but what did your receipt say?
  8. The question is also - what induction agent will they be using? Most people wouldn't ask, but if the vet is using Alfaxan or propofol then I wouldn't be as worried about blood testing. If the vet was using thiopentone in a mature dog (well apart from the fact I'd change vets...) I would certainly be doing the blood testing. A healthy 2 yo dog should handle the operation fine.
  9. That's so cool! with a HIT :) We have our first HSAs next week. I feel so much more confident after spending a weekend with Colin Webster and Ann Moy. Colin started us on the Intermediate course and some driving started to happen but it showed up weaknesses in her sides. She is just coming off season, has missed training and has been kennelled for the past week. I so hope I have the same dog I did 2 weeks ago at the trial. Piper, anyone who gets to Advanced is AMAZING!! I had such a break though with my male this weekend. Being an ACD who is very true to breed type he had to push though the need to bite, which he did this weekend (after one or two consequences...lol). So happy as I was beginning to stress, my bitch has been a dream, never once even opening her mouth or charging stock, so a fiesty, ballsy dog was foreign to me. I think he is going to be an even better dog than her. His drive in insane and he has picked up his side words so quickly. I need to lose the bossy barking directed at me when he is given a stop command though. I've always struggled with her keeping distance off the stock, but he seems to naturally go out and around the stock and not cut corners. This is him from today
  10. Thanks guys :) I'm surprised already at how the hair is already looking longer. Not that it's going to happen overnight. The vet is a friend, and did what I needed done for free, so I couldn't really chuck a hissy fit at him  (but I felt like doing that!!) Some great suggestions here, especially the Royal Jelly for the bitch between coats
  11. Hi Ross why dont you ask this question in the health section. You might get more people reading and increase the chances of hopefully some enlightened info. I never measured my ACD's heart rates but they do tend to be all go go go then crash for a sleep. If you are really concerned can you book her into the specialists, money well spent if it puts your mind at ease. Is this your first ACD? They are just the most intuitive, cognitive dogs you will find anywhere. I love mine to bits
  12. lol, bald people have no follicles! there never will be any growth (except for plugs maybe ) I want to nourish the follicles as much as possible so they go into overdrive and pump out hair shaft like its an Olympic event  I have him entered in 2 weeks, so I will play around with the chalk. I'm wondering, in theory, if rubbing Bio Oil might help. Off to the chemist I go.
  13. My dog goes in for a IV drip today and I nicely ask to not shave his leg. So I pick up a dog with a massive clipped area Any hints for creams, supplements, ANYTHING to get his hair to grown back as quick as possible (short haired, double coated breed)
  14. Why not give them bones during the day and if your looking to cover any missing vitamins just buy one of the many dog multi vitamins on the market. At least then you wont be feeding any unnecessary filler to your dog, and the bones will clean their teeth and give them some environmental enrichment.
  15. I had a neighbour once whose dog never stopped barking. They would go away for the weekend and it would bark non stop. I knew they would take no advice from me so I rang council and reported it. Council put the wrong letters in the envelopes and they got my letter saying 'Thankyou Ms ...... for your information regarding the barking dog at 123 Smith St' I was sooooo furious!! I let the hedge grow very tall along that fence line after that. If you report the dog, then tell the neighbour's that Hugo also got reported too. Go and speak with them to see if the ranger had visited them also.
  16. They work retrospectively. Just worm when you get back (and make sure you treat for tapeworm) and then follow up at the recommended time interval.
  17. Why don't you make a report to council about barking dogs? If your dog and their dog are both barking at each other through the fence (which you are 50% responsible for) then you don't look like the 'dobber', their most likely unregistered 'pit type' dog goes on their radar and they might be forced to get some training. You stop your dog from barking and hopefully problem solved. I dont mean to sound harsh but if your dog is down at the fence barking at the dog too then you cant entirely blame the dog for lunging and being aggressive through the fence. Yep, completely sympathise that its a worry about the potential damage the dog could do, but you have to do everything you can from your side of the fence.
  18. Of course the pitty is not going to forget about Hugo, but why allow him to stay on it's radar? At least prevent your dog from interacting with it. Im not saying it will jump the fence and be friends with Hugo, but why give it an excuse to jump the fence.
  19. Yeah he does, he's delighted by other dogs and always wants a sniff and that's what sets the dog off. We have some spare metal sheeting that we used to construct the chicken house, do you think maybe if the dog can't see Hugo he won't know he's there? I'm just clutching at straws here; in the perfect life, I'd build a water-filled moat full of crocodiles around our house to protect Hugo. An electric fence might be an idea, do you mean to put it on top of the fence seperating our properties? More importantly, will it work to keep the dog out? The neighbours dog will still know he is there, but if you keep Hugo from going right down to the fence at least you will reduce the amount of frustration building. If the dog is getting a fix out of the adrenalin it gets from going feral through the fence then it might start looking to increase the interaction with Hugo. If there is nothing exciting happening between the fence hopefully Hugo just becomes part of the 'furniture' so to speak. If Hugo is a soft type of dog then just a small barrier should stop him going down to the back fence, but if he is also getting a thrill from trying to sniff the neighbours dog then you will need a bigger deterrent. An electric fence is the most cost effective means for you.
  20. Does Hugo go right down to the back fence? Such close interaction would certainly put your dog on the radar, and build up frustration in the neighbour's dog. Can you run a cheap electric wire fence and only give Hugo half of your backyard? Wire is cheap and you could run a 6 strand high fence in the event the dog does ever get onto your property. There will be no perfect solution sadly
  21. Yes! That was Zac, he is my furry blue teddy bear :) He is a real sweetie but thought everything regardless of sex (and most likely species) was in season today. His brains are a bit blown having his girl in season. Sorry if he was greeting the wrong end of Stevie Hope we see you at herding soon
  22. I'm there showing and herding. Will most likely have the only ACD's at the herding, but amongst 30 of them entered in the show
  23. I went and watched today R&B and saw an associate register ACD. Cute little girl. Would have loved to compete but my girl isn't 18 months old until Sunday
  24. Excuse the horrible quality...iphone photo post foam destruction! These have proven to be the best kennels Ive ever had. The dogs just love them. The sides are not cold, timber seems to be well insulated and they are a great 'hidey hole'. There is a piece of timber in the bottom to level out the sleeping surface. I might add that one didn't get used for a few months...apparently they didn't like the smell of a beautiful Cab Sav
