I'm not, and I have met many, many wonderful examples of the breed. It's my bugbear though when some have the 'holier than thou' attitudes about their dogs/ breeds. Sometimes I wonder if they all got their glasses from the same manufacturer! Hehe..... you guys can be my therapists for my traumatic experience that has left me so wounded.

All situational for me. I'm hesitant to pat a SWF held in the arms of the owner, I'm going to observe individual mally's, staffie's and the like first before letting my dogs off lead with them, and Im certainly not going to enter someones property with an ACD or GSD at the gate. I have ACD's too, so it's all about respecting the purpose of the dog. As for breed predjudice I struggle to feel nice things for one breed, but that stems from way back when I first joined an obedience club as an enthusiastic newbie, to be told by one instructor if I wanted to get anywhere in obedience then I should put my dog down and get the breed she used. From that moment on its like fingernails down a chalk board when I hear people make excuses for their dog's bad behaviour 'cause it's the smartest breed in the world'. Yep I should get over it!

Trust me W&H I am sickened to the stomach just knowing what 100,000's of cattle have suffered. But I do acknowledge that there must be some legit slaughterhouses in Indonesia, and even if AA reps were paid by the gov to accompany cattle in the interim to at least clear the sale yards here at home. I'm sure the general public would feel more at ease knowing the cattle were accompanied by people who care.
-
Good god, who is going to get feed to all those cattle stuck at Port Hedland and the like. I'm all for ceasing supplying certain slaughterhouses in Indonesia, and spending a couple of million up front supervising the ones we supply in the short term. The economic losses and the compensation the beef farmers will now seek will FAR FAR outweigh the cost of sending MLA, vets, boners, whoever it takes to ensure that until it's sorted the cattle sent from TODAY onwards will be treated humanely. This is a knee jerk reaction when the people in the know have been aware about this inexcusable cruelty for YEARS. Do I resent Animals Aust? Nope, because this could have continued under the radar for many more years. Sensationalism? Nope, they have presented their point in a masterstroke way. Well done to them. They have an agenda, but it's the Gov who should have taken the pragmatic approach over the emotional one. 1000's of cattle sitting in yards, with no provisions for long term care, they would have been better off being transported to a humane death.

I met a Maltese who had a thing for elephants. Went nuts at the TV every time a head shot, or full body shot of an elephant was on TV. Was very entertaining. Would have loved to know what it was about elephants. Any other animal elicited zero response. The owners had a good conversation starter at their place, just switch over to NatGeo

Great! Looking forward to this show for some reason.

I think they would, both breeds that like to be busy, and both are robust kind of dogs. If you have a well socialized ACD and a Beagle then neither are too easily offended by a bit of rough and tumble play. Do you already have the Beagle?

Toolz, did you have the red ACD boy? How is he going.

Curious which DOLers are going this Saturday. In previous years what are the numbers of spectators like? Im in ACD puppy bitch, so on nice and early. Would love to watch more experienced DOLers in the ring. Where can I find you all?

I'm guilty of keeping the judge waiting. At my 3rd show a fellow competitor got challenge dog and bitch. Asked if I could handle one in BOB. I got so caught up in that I forgot to get my BP bitch ready for baby of breed. only time she has been beaten by a boy! Hmmmm wonder if I pissed the judge off! lol Being flustered is not good.

What To Put In The Backyard For Dogs?
Inevitablue replied to Isabel964's topic in General Dog Discussion
My girl has a giant Fitball, the pilates type. Keeps her amused chasing it around and around the backyard. Keep it well inflated and they can't puncture it -
Thanks Such a relaxing weekend away, albeit very cold. Can't wait to try a cattle clinic when she is more mature. Have to laugh, she was such a well behaved pup all weekend, from the 5 hr drive, to sleeping in strange environments, to all new sights and sounds - even a plastic bag on the end of the cane, tethered without sooking and loved the dam but today I have one very sleepy puppy. Quick zoomies this morning and then snoozing all day long. I can't wait till she is 6 months and we can do a HIC and a HT run. Oh no, I have the bug now!

I'm IT illiterate, I just cut and paste the link again, and it's the same as the one I posted earlier Sigh, maybe she is never destined to be famous....lol EDIT: I have no idea why it's not working...arghhhhh. For anyone who just can't sleep tonight without seeing a potential world champ....lol, search TessHerding.avi on YouTube. My username is bikieB (from my motorbike racing...no Harleys involved!)

Not sure how to fix it, when I click on it, it goes straight to YouTube

http://m.youtube.com/index?desktop_uri=/&gl=AU#/watch?v=yoWQmFKzZIQ Hi guys, here is my 5 month old girl having a go at the Robert Cox clinic over the weekend. Very distracted on this go, but I'm not too fussed as the morning run she was ~95% focused with more energy. Yep, my bad at the beginning! I'm still new to herding

As in having an older dog and a puppy together? My old male ACD was good with an ex's staffy pup. The only pup he really had to live with. Firmly but fairly told the pup about personal space boundaries and then they got on great. ACD's love the company of a bigger family You have to post photos! I get another ACD pup in 17 weeks.......so long to wait but the mating was only last week. Gives me a bit more time to spend on the current one though!

How Smart Are Boxers?
Inevitablue replied to flame ryder's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
They were nice Boxers, saw her at an All Breeds show recently. I think one was on the Pal Superdog team.... many moons ago -
My old dogs went nuts on Advance, like they were on Avgas! New pup turned her nose up at Advance (she won a bag) so I went back to Proplan. Previous dogs did well on it, never went through any palatability issues. New pup is very happy with Proplan. Interestingly, it's a diet I don't see mentioned much on here. Manufactured in Australia, so no sitting around on docks, never heard of a dog rejecting it, and a good range to meet various dogs. Works for my dogs, maybe worth some consideration.

Gwp4me, have you considered Fair Trading? Complete negligence, the whole point of you doing the PennHIP was to find out the pups status! Surely the vet knew he had to receive results back? -

:D Seems like I was just in this thread. Tessie's breeder is so happy with what she has been doing she has offered me another puppy. Mating was only last week, so I have until the end of September to wait. An update on Tess, she is 5 months old now and has so far won a Baby Puppy in Show and a Baby of Breed from 3 shows. She loves herding and can already get the sheep around the HT test, just can't do anything official until she is 6 months, so first herding test will be on 3 July, then another at the end of July. If she goes well she will have her first title at 7 months old. Lol, she also has her photo in this months DogsNSW magazine! Obedience wise she does good 30 sec stays from 10m, drops on recall, drops and sits from 10m away, understands her automatic sits when heeling, plus drop and stand. She has started take, hold and give of a dumbbell. Heeling I'm working hard at making it all fun for her in drive, so if she gives me a few meters of super attentive heeling then she gets her tug toy reward. Phew! lucky she loves learning, all this gets trained on our walks through the park each morning, so I hardly ever do anything formal except for her show training once a week. Tess is an Aust. Cattle Dog and I can't wait to work with another, which will be my 4th ACD. 17 weeks to wait!! -

Out of curiosity what is the danger of doing JPS to a pup who doesn't need it? Aside from the unnecessary GA. -

The stem cells won't help here. They repair the arthritis associated with HD. Won't change the way the bones are formed. Fingers crossed they get a specialist's opinion!
