  1. I have one on the way from CR - the free shipping was too good to miss. ;) I have Cool Champions, so will be interested to see how this one compares. 35 - that's hot - forecast is 27 for us tomorrow - hot for down here - will definitely need to cool coat for B/W BC who feels the heat. I got an email saying one of mine is on backorder, apparently orders sent to NSW were incredibly high last week!
  2. I've ordered from these guys a few times, and they sell the frozen BARF. http://www.paringapetfoods.com.au/index.php It was fresh, the only thing the dogs thought were a bit suss was the chicken wings. They much prefer the ones from Petcare 2000 (but no home delivery)
  3. OMG that Doberman is incredible, doesn't even fit properly through the weaves! See her hind legs hitting the poles as she tries to get her body through, and it didn't deter her at all.
  4. I rang up one of those radio shows once and asked him some questions. When I quizzed his answer they pulled the plug on me! I'd like to ring up again and ask how he can justify being against puppy farms yet recommend types of dogs where the majority are supplied from. Maybe we need to ask him these questions in the public arena.
  5. Thanks!! :D Ive been looking at the different types for a few weeks now, and this one seems to have all the good features, even though it doesn't cover the rump, I like the wide belly band to cool the stomach area. Free shipping and only $35 makes it even better I just wish I had it for tomorrow, 35 degrees at Erskine Park and one flakey, soft ACD!
  6. My old dogs used to stay with my parents. That was easy, as the dogs were older and mum misses having animals since her dog passed away. However now I have two under the age of 1, I cant see dad minding them. What is it with the number of pot plants people accrue as they age?! Mine will go back to their breeder, but that's going to be a rude shock - kennels!
  7. Could someone kindly post a link to the chamois ones
  8. Yep, many farmers keep their working dogs like that, raised off the ground on mesh.
  9. Our main trial vet has used the cells for partial cruciate tears, but each case is subjective. I can't see it ever being recommended as a potential for repairing cruciates. Some dogs have now gone a year and it appears that the cruciate has repaired, but not perfectly. If a dog has a 20% tear, and is not used for performance sports and is a bit of a lounge lizard, then the cells could prove very beneficial. Used as an adjunct therapy for cruciate repairs, the cells are fantastic. Accelerate healing, repair any meniscus damage which might have happen when the injury occurred. If I was paying for a TPLO etc, even a DeAngelis repair I'd pay a bit more for a single dose of stem cells to be put in at the time of surgery. Osteoarthritis is the main focus in dogs, but some of the soft tissue and bone work that has occurred in horses will easily transcribe over to dogs. Another big potential for their use is in fracture repair. Again, a single dose during surgery will promote a stronger, quicker repair. People with shattered feet have been slowly jogging again within 3 weeks. It's almost scary!
  10. Sitting here at Erskine Park at a conformation show, bored, waiting around for Group. I thought why not go see some sheep! Tess hasn't seen sheep for almost 3 months, since getting her PT title. Such a nice dog, never would have guessed it's been so long since working sheep. Straight in and did the nicest work in the PT ring, her best to date (minus the bindi removal half way ) My new pup, all of 12 weeks old today had his first look at sheep. First look.....hum..whatever...ooohhh poo! Second look....ooohh I move, they move....hmmm I bark..... they move even faster....wow, I go in for a big, head tilted, mouth wide open heel nip...now they're moving really fast!! (ie...the sheep started trotting ). Oh dear.... He is so bold!
  11. Hi Inevitable. We are booked in for the same day procedure where the vet collects the pets own fat which contains his own cells. After the cells are processed, they are injected back into the problem joints. The vet said the whole procedure takes about 4 hours. My fella has hip dysplasia and arthritis in 2 joints. The rep. from the company sent me some videos links to watch and its amazing how far animal treatment has come and where we are heading with stem cell treatment. Can't wait. Before being involved with Monash Uni, I was involved with the fat harvest method. We got some really fantastic results. Many really, really happy clients. Your boy is really going to appreciate it! (just remember, no non steroidal anti inflammatory medication for a week beforehand - Rimadyl, Previcox, Metacam etc). You want strong signaling so the cells stay in the area and do their job!
  12. No, as pure mesenchymal stem cells are immuno privileged, they don't trigger the immune system. They really are multi functional cells. The difference is, apart from the dog not having to have a 4-6inch scar, the cultured system is just pure stem cells. Harvesting the fat produces a mix of cells, with on average (depending on age) 30% stem cells. Hence why that system cannot transfer between dogs. As stem cells are finite, just like the entire body, we believe it makes sense to take cells from a young healthy dog, whose cells have not been through multiple mitotic divisions. We did a Bull Mastiff two weeks ago, severe arthritis in the hips, and now already he is vastly improved. I need to start taking before and after videos! His two hips cost $1100 - final cost to the owner
  13. I don't support at all. I'm not a registered breeder, but if my dog or bitch turn out as good as I hope, in both attitude and structure then they will be assets to the gene pool. I will then go to the lengths to become a registered breeder. I can completely understand why rescue people would see mandatory desexing as beneficial. For health reasons I'd not desex a performance dog early either. Perhaps a law stating all puppies sold through a 3rd party (ie pet shop) should be desexed. After all, that is the market supposedly just looking for a pet.
  14. Abgail, I'm sure your boy will appreciate it! You will see a brighter, happier dog within a few days. Is he having an operation to harvest fat, or are you using the cultured cells?
  15. Don't buy the ones in 'kit form'. They are sooo expensive. Do what the others have said and buy the individual components from a produce store.
  16. His websites reek of 'Fake it 'till you make it'.
  17. So in his personal experience he's physically dealt with an Estrela Mountain Dog? Wow, he's so worldly. This is the guy who was on Big Brother isn't it?
  18. There must be! This is the Ben tdierikx meant http://www.kogarahvet.com/index.html Last year St George Animal Hospital also had a *cough* quite spunky Ben working there as well! 1min up the road from Princes Hwy Vet!
  19. Buy him a Cool Mat http://www.coolweave.com.au/k9_cooling_mats.htm
  20. I'm shopping for a new car at the moment. The Pathfinder has a huge amount of space, I've just been warned they use a clutch more designed for a lighter car, so they wear out quickly. So I've looked at a few manuals. There like a Navara but the dogs get the air con too The other car I never thought to factor in was a Mercedes M Class AWD. In turbo diesel they are economical, and the rear seats lay flush with the floor, when they are folded down. Lots of luxury for the driver! If your happy to go 2nd hand then they are affordable. I just want to see how much repairs will be if something goes wrong before I purchase. What about the Hyundai Santa Fe? I'm in a Hyundai at the moment and it's such a solid, reliable car. I have been very impressed by the car!
  21. Not sure if there is still a 'Princes Hwy Vet', but Ben's at 'Kogarah Vet' I'm seeing him today for work.......lol. Can I show him this thread??
  22. Dry food also raises the pH of the stomach to around 5 - 6, whereas a wild dog has a pH of 2 - 3. Bones don't dissolve at a pH close to neutral. Often the dogs stomach rejects the bone because of this. If feeding bones is important, you could try by adding some raw meat to the Eukanuba, bring the stomach pH down a little.
  23. Are you referring to my pretend giraffe and faux tassie devil?? Considering they are both under a year, they are incredibly easy to live with and train! They have VERY high standards to live up to, after Jake and Gwen! Yep, they are ferals!
