I wonder how many parents routinely, to the day, worm their kids? Or do they wait until there is some bum scratching going on before they remember?

I *think* they might work for Bayer Lol...yep agree I wonder if this would be classed as free advertising for Bayer? It's such a lump of info that it's not very inviting to read!

Oakway- It's good to hear that you have no resistance problems. :) But the occurrence of resistance is a problem, and one that modern drugs will still suffer from, unless used wisely. Unless a chemical has a 100% knockdown rate the survivors will breed and develop mechanisms to counteract the drugs. It's evolution. Products like Q Drench combine chemicals to ensure a 100% knockdown. You don't rotate your horse wormers? http://www.virbac.com.au/p-virbacaupuben/display.aspx?srv=p-virbacau&typ=pubā©=en&cmd=view&style=styles/page2.xsl&select=PAGE%5B@ID$eq$PAGE_182%5D&generic1=ARTICLE_961&affp=&

But if you only ever stick with one chemical you are helping to build resistance. Why do you think farmers rotate actives? One season it's a mectin, next it's a white drench etc. Expose a population to a chemical long enough and they will adapt. If someone uses Fipronil, then changes and suddenly the problem goes, then the new active killed the resistant fleas. If fleas killed like internal parasites then maybe dog owners would be as aware of this as livestock owners.

Some vets are curious and keep up to date with science, others wait for something to be common place before they accept new things. For osteoarthritis with close to 10,000 dogs being treated it's not considered experimental anymore. It might seem experimental for some who are not up to date. WA has been slower to take it up, but that is due to no people over there educating. We do send cells to two vets in WA, NSW colleagues of theirs recommended the use.

Relating back to parasite control in other species, some populations develop resistance to chemicals. It's a natural population survival mechanism. Just ask farmers in WA about ivermectin. Some areas might have not been heavily exposed to Fipronil, so the chemical still works, in others, due to the popularity of a single product, resistance is bound to develop. This is just a general observation about parasiticide resistance.

Yep, the stem cells can only help repair damaged joints, so either after surgery or from the arthritis associated with ED/HD. Some claim stem cells can alleviate the need for hip replacements, which I believe is misleading. The cells can only repair damage, not remodel bone. If a dog has shallow hips, cells are not going to change the phenotype of an animal. What they can do though is if one had a 10 year old dog, the cells could buy a few more years of mobility without putting the animal through a hip replacement. If I had a young animal though I would do the surgery every time. I hope Gibbs makes a full recovery, medicine can do great things these days.

Atopic dermatitis is one of the trials. The stem cells appear to interact with the T cell receptors and somehow calm down the over active immune system skin responses. How long they do this for is one question to be answered. It's a great side effect! Some other anecdotal information has been elderly dogs seeing and/or hearing better. DCM in large breeds and CHF are also being looked at. The stem cells in humans are improving the effraction rate by repairing weakened valves. I see that they are pushing forward with growing cow muscle, but I would say it will be decades before anyone is eating stem cell hamburgers. That would be weird!! Mason Gibbs- talk to your vet, as there are options. You don't have to cut the dog open anymore to collect fat. The cultured cells are cheaper too, because of the reduced surgery. If you want any info PM me. The fat harvest still gets great results, just a much less invasive/ scarring option available now.

I've been advised if I want to compete in both IPO and ANKC tracking then I definately need to train the IPO method.

I haven't been back in here since my Tess got her herding titles This morning we got her CCD title. We were showing and obedience trailing, and both started at 8am ran around the breed ring, changed leads, had 2 min warm up, trialled, did stays, won the ring. Straight back into her show lead for the Best in Group line up. I had a few blonde moments after that! I was the best dressed obedience trialler that's for sure! I'm so about her. At 14 months she is Willowpark Inevitablue PT CCD (and 1/3 of the way to her Aust Ch)

Sydney Abbatoir Closed For Cruelty

Makes me happy I feed the dogs roo. At least it's a somewhat more humane death than containment, transport and finally slaughter. I couldn't give up meat protein, but I'm really thinking hard about only eating the fish we catch ourselves. -

I wonder if Australian teenagers were properly educated on how their meat gets to their plate, how many more vegetarians would exist? Not a sanitized version, but with as much bluntness as Jamie Oliver did with the chicks on stage. -

There has been a bit of publicity about farmers killing large numbers of wombats in the southern states -
Just so you know Newfsie any vet can order the cells. All that's needed is either injecting them into the joint, or on an IV line. HonBun did go to a very good vet though :)

That's way too much offal, hence why it looks expensive. Mine get about 5% offal over the course of the week. -
My friend breeds them http://www.incavale.com/ When I see them at show training they are confident, very even tempered dogs.
