  1. Or I can post an ACD.... a nice one who won't eat the postie ;-)
  2. Endurance is often a cardiovascular issue. Slowly build up their exercise to allow their hearts/ lungs to grow stronger. The osteoarthritis has slowed them down and their fitness has declined. Very happy to hear how the dogs are responding. Ray is a master at identifying the dogs that will get maximum benefit from the cells.
  3. There is one at our IPO club, and he is such a sook! I've never seen a dog be so polite about biting the sleeve. When he does the hold and bark at the hides he often yodels  He is the only one I've really seen though.
  4. By prematurely I mean she is in otherwise fantastic health. Her osteoarthritis might have developed from a highly active lifestyle. Have you tried Pentosan Polysulfate (most commonly called Cartrophen) injections to see if she improves on them?
  5. This place is looking good for the weekend www.hoyts.com.au
  6. Wow, the roller coaster ride that is dog showing! Reckon Milton will take entries on the day? ? After all they do only have 26 dogs in group 5 entered
  7. Yay! Sleep in on Saturday morning :D Thanks for that The grounds are near Canberra Vet are they not? (the combined equine and sml animal)
  8. my Minor was on a roll too........
  9. Hawkesbury Pound is pretty high up. I lived right on the river at Agnes Banks and it never even got to Castlereagh rd when it flooded. Access will still be available from the Blacktown side.
  10. Argh.. I hate Apple corrective text! My dogs have brown legs ANYWAY Agree about the horses, studs can only do so much. Do they always cancel the whole show, or allow the dogs to continue?
  11. Thanks for that. I should join OzShow! Could you update this thread if anything is put on OzShow? :) Much appreciated, and I'm glad I didn't intend on camping this weekend  I don't mind the rain, my dogs have brown legs away!
  12. I don't know the areas well, are they flood prone?
  13. If you think the osteoarthritis is starting to slow her down prematurely then definately have a chat with your vet.
  14. I will PM you a different number. Apologies to you and your vet. We really need to expand staff numbers at Monash.
  15. Count me in for Canberra. I could easily get another 5 people interested. I was at a sheep clinic at Nimmitabel in January. They had young Angus cattle. Problem is if they aren't dog broke then they might be a bit much for my novice dogs.
  16. What a great idea..... A geriatric area, for those that don't need the hive of energy the younger dogs bring
  17. I am going to have the inside run with a solid partition and the outside part of the dog run without. That way they have a choice. IT also means that they can sleep on their bed and it not get pee'd on by the leg cocking dog next door, or be growled at by a resourse guarder when eating. Yes to adequate exercise areas. Over time I will also make some even larger areas, but in the beginning I am working within some cost constraints as all areas are double fenced. Yep to the Whiteboard - I have to be organised and certainly wouldn't want to feed a dog the wrong thing. I will also have a cage card on every run a container on each run to hold dog coats, leads etc any thing that is personal and not in with the dog at the time. Any required medication that can be held at room temp will also be there - I think not sure if to put it there or in the kitchen in a set number area near the whiteboard. Yep and yep to natural sunlight and fresh air. Most certainly want to know any likes or dislikes of the individual dogs so I can make sure they get positive interaction they enjoy What about the webcam!!
  18. I want to see obvious facilities for environmental enrichment. I don't need solid partitions, I'd rather my dogs get some stimulation by interacting with their neighbour. An appropriate number of grassed areas for the number of dogs boarding. 40 dogs and 1 area doesn't fill me with confidence. I want to see a whiteboard with who gets fed what (implying the dogs get the right food), when I agisted horses this always put my mind at ease. I want my dogs to have some natural sunlight in their runs and good ventilation. A partitioned shed wouldn't satisfy me. Genuine questions about my dogs personalities/likes/dislikes so hopefully they won't be treated like a number. I would pay extra for all this, what's the point of wasting $4000 on a holiday if I spend the whole time wondering how they are. Ultimately I'd love a webcam setup like the doggy day cares have!!
  19. Keisha the differences are - - with the fat harvest method the cells that are Injected back in on average contain 30% stem cells, the cultured method is 100% stem cells. - harvesting requires trauma and an extra anesthetic. If you have kept your dog quite lean a fairly big incision is required to collect enough fat. Mostly the incision is made on the shoulder blade. A short coated breed ends up with a scar. A few vets do liposuction the fat out. - cost, the cultured are proving to be cheaper. With the harvest method you have to pay the same price whether or not you treat 1 joint or 6. The cultured allows you to order only what you need. An example is degeneration in one joint due to a cruciate rupture causing osteoarthritis. - the age of the cells. If you use a 12 year old dogs cells you are using dormant stem cells that have been through many mitotic divisions. In theory not as viable as cells that have only undergone a few mitotic divisions. -
  20. Hi, thanks i understand they do not *catch* them, but it can come from the mother at birth, he did show some signs as a puppy as to not having a great immune system, Yes he is from a blue to blue mating, he is currently now a 18mnths old and is having regular injections weekly.. he has only had 6 months of his life in total where it has not been noticable. All dogs carry a small population, so technically all puppies will have some. Follow the advice of a completely raw diet, and put him on Protexin and some colostrum powder if you can find it. Build up his immune system. If your breeding SBT you have now seen first hand why you shouldn't breed blue to blue.
  21. Your vet should have explained that they don't 'catch' demodectic mites. All dogs have a small population of them, but some dogs have such poor immune systems that the mites overpopulate. Many young dogs can be affected as they go through puberty and their immune systems are under more stress. Is your SBT from a blue to blue mating? Edit: spelling
  22. That's so good following you WA guys, it's seems the standard is so wonderfully high there. To win open must be such a high :)
  23. Keisha, any vet in Australia can order the cells. Have a chat to your vet. Many are now regular users due to the first case being a dog owner asking to try it. They then see the results for themselves. I can find out what vets in SA have ordered already. Edit: sorry, I didn't see your post about your boy. Yes, his condition should respond well, in his case he would most likely be given the cells IV.
