Don't even have words. Have to say though, in the last picture there is a possibly emaciated horse right behind the fence on the right at the front of the round yard. Maybe they were talking about that one? I am still undecided on this but it i looking more and more like purely a vendetta. Hopefully all will come to light when it goes through court, surely they can't convict her of any wrongdoing if there was none. RSPCA luckily i not judge and jury in a court room yet and cannot convict her of anything. I do fear for any horse that were seized though. The RSPCA supposedly "disposed" of horses that were seized by dogging them before.

We have a gorgeous urgent girl in Broken Hill ;) She really has been there ages and we are not sure how much longer they will hang onto her. This pound is good about giving them extra time but he has been there week and if it fills up over Christmas the ones that have been there the longest will be the first to go I'm afraid

Wow! At this stage I am somewhat inclined to believe they are all as crazy as each other...

We have almost entirely bullies in now and zilch interest in them. Christmas is looking pretty sad for them this year

Opinions Of Youtube Please
BlackJaq replied to Lablover's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
I think the retrieve was way too far since the puppy ended up dropping all the dummies instead of delivering them to the handler. This seems to be encouraging a sloppy retrieve from a young age to me personally, a habit that might be hard to break later, but I am myself at the very beginning of teaching dummy work, so I am anything but an expert. The pup itself seems to have what it takes to make a nice gun dog (or trial dog? if trained more carefully) but I do not see the point in doing this exercise if all the retrieves are going to be put down before reaching the handler. Sometime more is less and a shorter, clean retrieve might serve better to train the puppy, but that is just my opinion :) -
Yes I have seen Lolly's group, too. The pictures of these dogs WM and her partner allegedly neglected and abused are atrocious and right up puppy mill alley. She also runs several $1000 & under horse sales pages and I see her posting for litters of pitbulls here and there. She also peddles working breed puppies on a regular basis. I feel bad for any animal that is unfortunate enough to meet her but of course it is all hearsay at the moment. Nobody with direct knowledge or proof seems to report? Disgusting. I am extremely keen to see a ruling on this one.

Um this is a long standing facebook war finally coming to fruition. Both sides are being accused of abusing and neglecting horses and to be honest I thought it was all bogus until I saw the news reports about her having been charged and horses being seized. I am still not 100% sure exactly what is going on but there has been a long and vicious campaign against her so the RSPCA may have felt pressured to do something rather than be accused of inaction? Currently I am reserving judgement on this one until I see a conviction. Would be interesting to see pictures of the horses seized as well, I have not seen any so far but reports say they did not look bad? The fb group detailing the alleged crimes will give you the head ache of your life and people are slinging threats and openly admitting to following her around and harrassing her as well, they seem more of a mob than anything else to me. Some of the complaints made were that the horses "were bored" and "not rugged" and apparently many of them are wind suckers (which may well be true since many of them are ex race horses, wind sucking is a common stable vice found in race horses) ETA: Funnily enough (not) the lady who seems to have started this campaign, "Wrangler Maree" has been accused of shooting a horse with a compound bow and then dumping it on another lady under threat of dogging it.....

Pet Friendly Rentals/share Houses
BlackJaq replied to peytonsmumma's topic in General Dog Discussion
I also think it would definitely be worth a shot asking whether they would consider pets, even if it is not advertised as pet friendly. I would die before advertising any property I own as pet friendly because of the whackos that tend to show up with 5 large breeds who have got them evicted from their last ten rentals due to destruction or noise complaints lol If somebody approached the agent and they forwarded the request I would probably consider it, depending on the dog and the circumstances they planned to keep it in. A portable escape proof kennel, crate or something similar would always score brownie points with me because I don't have to alter the property but the dog can be confined if necessary without being able to wreak havoc on the outdoor areas or even worse, the house :p If somebody said they were planning to get a Rottie puppy they would have to show some serious references and well thought out plans on how to deal with that. Even then I would not be keen, at least with an adult I can meet the dog and get vet/previous agent references... -
The most hideous thing I have ever heard was our local pet shop selling Heinz variety tabby kittens without chips or vaccination for $550! A friend of mine bought one and it died a few weeks later, which is when I was told. Of course by this time any kittens that had not sold for this fantastic amount had been "disposed of" in one way or another, likely at the pound. My favourite part of the story was when I found out later-on that the guy who runs the pet shop used to be a cop. You'd think he would know better?

I just got my Weimaraner bitch spayed a couple of week ago and so far no issues. She healed nicely and I took her external stitches out myself without a problem (have done many stitches on people and dog in the past so I knew what I was looking at, drive to vet would have been a 120 km round trip so I would have only done it if it was not healed to my satisfaction or infection etc was apparent). The internal stitches were dissolvable. Before the spay I had a world of trouble keeping my bitch at a decent weight and I have noticed some increase in condition since the spay. Makes sense, since she is no longer expending energy on cycles etc. She has free access to kibble all day and I am sure if her weight should become an issue, simply feeding her a ration instead of free access should not be too difficult. We had no issues with licking/chewing the wound because Foxy is so anxious to always do what I say. I actually caught her licking it just after we got home and told her to top and after that she actually didn't touch it at all, which turned out to be an issue because if he laid on the dirt she would not clean it up afterward (because I had said not to *sigh*) so I had to clean it and disinfect it myself :p Needless to say, I was watching her like a hawk to make sure she didn't get any horse manure and what-not on it until the stitches came out :p Foxy was nearly 2 when I got her done, so she has had several seasons and even though she was not quite fully grown I feel she was reasonably mature (physically). I had no trouble keeping her separate from other dogs during her season, but we live out of town and own guns, so no loose entire dog problem here. I have not noticed any chance in personality except the slight naughtiness that is expected at this age. She seems to be developing normally and around this time is when the guarding instincts are supposed to develop, which seems to be happening normal so far. She is still trainable like before and I have not noticed her concentration waning. Obviously she has some off days where she is ignoring things she already knows but I expect that is probably age related. It's probably too early to tell if there are any physical issues caused by the spay.

Australian Institute Of Animal Management Panel Discussion Re: Bsl
BlackJaq replied to melzawelza's topic in In The News
Wow that sounds great! Will have to watch this tonight when I have more time -
Ah, thanks for clearing that up, seems I was a bit fuzzy on the details because I got a bit woosey when my vet said I'd have to stick my finger in there to empty them if problems persisted... I am glad our issues are now resolved. I do not have to feed any extra fiber anymore now.

I imagine the connection between anal glands and being out of alignment is that the dog emptying its bowel is supposed to empty the glands as well. If the stool is not firm enough or for some other reason does not stimulate the glands enough, they will not express. If the dog is sore/out of alignment and not squatting just right, the same problem may occur and the glands do not get emptied properly. Foxy had issues with hers before as one of hers sits a bit funny and I was also having issues getting her to a decent weight, so her glands did not always empty properly. I changed foods and added psyllium husks to her meals, as well as more bones and chicken wings/frames/necks/whatever and after I had her spayed she gained an extra bit of weight. We have not had any more anal gland issues for a while now.

What Shampoo Do You Use And Why?
BlackJaq replied to skyehaven's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
I use Hoss Gloss. Not sure why, a bottle of it turned up in my tack box for the horses one day. I used it on my pinto mare and loved the instant yellow stain removal. Next time the dog needed washing it was there so I used it. I think it must be medicated because I washed my pound puppy and all the ticks and fleas just came off dead with the rinse. Everybody's skin and coat does very well with it and I like the smell. Manes and tails are fairly easy to comb out after using it (I only have short coated dogs) and I like the smell. It is not all that cheap and not a huge bottle so I will be ordering my next bottle online. Overall, I'm really happy with it but still wondering where that first bottle came from -
Nz Animal Welfare Group Teaches Dogs To... Drive Cars?
BlackJaq replied to Ruin Maniac's topic in In The News
Love this idea. My Wei always wants to sit in the driver's seat, imagine the possibilities if she could really drive! She could be the dezzy driver instead of me from now on! (I am always IT, not sure why ) -
Without knowing the exacts of their laws (not a subject that really interests me), I'd have to assume implied consent is taken into account. To give an example here.. male animals. Obviously though, creating a physical reaction isn't obtaining consent- which makes the whole AI issue (which is perfectly legal everywhere) very interesting. If intercourse with a male animal is rape, why is stimulating an animal for the purposes of collecting semen acceptable when the dog still hasn't consented to that sexual activity? We have some odd double standards when it comes to pawing animals for our own purposes. ... This is a very interesting point. Yes, also what about inseminating the female animals? That seems to be way more invasive than the collection of semen and is also perfectly acceptable everywhere that allows AI? Not saying living with your de-facto poodle is ok or anything but it seems some sexual acts done on animals are viewed as ok as long as no human sexual organs are involved?

Pet Dogs More Friendly Than Frightening When Put To The Test
BlackJaq replied to Leema's topic in General Dog Discussion
Well, I cannot speak from experience inside the house but we have found OH's dog happily chewing on a piece of fabric that looked suspiciously like the seat of a pair of sweat pants before. There was a huge commotion and an attempted break-in next door that night and we suspected the intruder may have jumped into our yard to make his escape but didn't know for sure until we found the piece of his pants... I think each of our dogs would have a go outside. Inside the house I am not so sure since they are not usually left unattended inside and may think they are being naughty? Would be interesting to try it though As for the Rotti owner, what a reason to acquire a large dog that is untrained to perform the work they want it to do! It appears the public still consider some breeds inherently vicious or maybe born with training (in this case protective or guard training??) Surely everybody knows that a dog should be trained to exhibit the behaviours you want it to exhibit? -
It is not illegal in all states of America and the German article says it was made legal at the same time as "sodomy" i.e. gay sex so it seems they kind of thought it was pretty much the same thing at the time...
-
This is one way to frame it, but we should bear in mind that animals don't consent to most things we do with them - they don't consent to obedience school, eating Royal Canin instead of Eaglepack, sleeping in the lounge instead of the bedroom etc etc. The reason it is wrong is because it's wrong to take advantage of a situation where you have power over a less powerful sentient being who could be damaged by predatory behaviour - be it an animal, a child, a mentally disabled adult, etc. Plus it's just disgusting. Yes, that is the angle most of them were arguing. They don't consent to factory farming etc and worse things are done to them there (cattle and sheep are not generally kept in pastures in Germany, there is not enough room. Instead they are housed in enclosed, shed-type feed lots like pigs and chickens.) @Tralee, that's ok, I was not attracted to you in that way anyways ;) @Jed, no the article spoke about a zoophile group called ZETA, which is a real thing. Nothing at all to do with PETA, except making fun of their name maybe ETA: This seems to come in the wake of a proposal to ban castration of piglets and hot branding of horses... Also it is supposedly going to be made illegal to circumsize young boys.... Seems they are attempting to change a bunch of things and can't get enough support for any of them except this.....
-
I went to the original German article and the majority of people in the comments are actually arguing against this! Unbelievable!
-
Oh how embarrassing! I never realized it was not illegal and people are openly doing that.. And living with their doggie life partners....
-
That lady was obviously an expert, because if it is called a bull-anything it must eat children fro breakfast. I didn't know Bullmastiffs count as bull breed? I might just be uneducated in this department though as I have never owned a mastiff and don't know that much about them. I wonder if you could pull the anti-discrimination card here, after-all, she was cool with it until you told her the breed? Also, if she thinks this is a bull breed, maybe she doesn't actually know what it is and has a mental image of a Bull Terrier or Pit looking dog? I know people can be very ignorant about breeds because "bogan breeders" will distribute a certain look of dog as all sorts of different breeds and most people will just take them at their word.... Most of the pigging scene in my town is convinced I am pulling their leg when they see me walking my dog and ask about her breeding and I say "Weimaraner". I have been called stupid and told that this is obviously a Great Dane/Greyhound/Whipped/Mastiff Cross! Jeebus Christ, do I not know anthing????

What about the pounds that don't work with rescue? There are tons of country pounds who have incredibly high kill rates and most rescues would not have even heard of the place if you know what I mean. But I suppose they would just destroy most of the dogs after their 7 days so wouldn't even know half the time if the dog was sick
-
It is parvo season now and many dogs arrive in pounds already sick. I wonder if there is a slump in euth rates during parvo season because so many young dogs die of it. Or maybe there is a rise as impounded dogs who are ill need to be put down due the suffering? I find parvo to be a bit of a no no topic in pounds and shelters. Nobody likes to answer questions about what happens to animals that come in infected.

I am just having a crack at whoever said, on the same topic, different thread, that the arrival of pitbulls is what changed the way it used to be. Apparently their arrival on Australian shores turned all dogs into bloodthirsty monsters who want to eat your children. You know, it was probably m-sass. That is why it made so much sense :D On a different note though, how does lifestock death by dog back then compare to now? We shoot dogs that harass our lifestock. Is that what happened back then? Because otherwise, how did all those dogs wandering about not end up forming packs and killing buttloads of sheep? Or were they just so well socialized they didn't do that stuff back then? I am honestly wondering because dog packs do A LOT of damage to lifestock these days and not just sheep either, chickens and any kind of poultry really incredibly easy prey
