  1. The RSPCA and Moorook are separate issues. Just because the RSPCA suck does not mean that Moorook should be entitled to treat animals inhumanely in the name of rescuing them. Two wrongs don't make a right.
  2. I use Sard Wonder Soap on my horse's white areas. Gets out staining, poo patches and pretty much anything else she uses to camouflage herself with beautifully and it's cheap, too
  3. Are you saying dogs need to be on lead inside houses?
  4. If you have a "mean" dog then it is your responsibility to keep it under complete control. "Accidents happen" simply isn't good enough. Just thought this bears bumping again. I am amazed at the apparent lack of dog knowledge some posters here seem to display. Young dogs kill old dogs all the time. Breed is irrelevant here. Anybody who has old dogs and acquires young dogs should be well aware of this before leaving them together unsupervised. I am also amazed that there are people on DOL who believe that a dog's behaviour is 100% a result of nurture when there are countless scientific articles on the subject. Even more amazing is that some people don't believe "their" breed or a certain breed who is small or a toy breed or whatever is incapable of aggression. They are all dogs. They are all capable. Their triggers and thresholds may vary but denying this is very naive as some other posters have pointed out. I believe many large breed owners probably have the same attitude ("my dog would never do that") and maybe that is what causes some of these incidents in the first place.... And while I do realize that it makes sense that large breeds are more capable of inflicting damage, I would like to say that small breeds not only have killed people by mauling them but can also cause accidents by chasing people and dogs in front of traffic etc, so saying they are harmless seems a little naive to me as well. All dogs need to be controlled and managed and even tiny dogs can be dangerous to very young children, so awareness of this is important, in my opinion, rather than spouting the old "small dogs do small damage" and possibly leaving less dog savvy people in the belief that leaving their young child alone with a dog is ok because it's small and can't do any damage.
  5. Here is the cached view of the youtube page with the video I found...... http://webcache.googleusercontent.com/search?q=cache:eNBVVyFrpcAJ:www.youtube.com/all_comments%3Fthreaded%3D1%26v%3DTKCX-6rsFLI+today+tonight+moorook+animal+shelter&cd=9&hl=en&ct=clnk&gl=au Wonder why it has disappeared?
  6. I missed the TT thing Is it available to be watched online? ETA: A google search turned up a video on youtube which is apparently "unavailable"......
  7. Wow, that "logotto" is clearly terrifying. I can see why the mafia has chosen this dog, victims would have suffered extreme fear and distress before being torn apart by that monster (landshark?)
  8. I'm somewhat satisfied that TT are reaping some of the hysteria that they so enjoy sowing.
  9. I am asking because my dog (Weimaraner) sometimes seems to do the same thing and I have put it down to acid reflux. She will sometimes do it if OH slips her table scraps or when she eats a lot of lamb for some reason. There must be other triggers but it happens very rarely so I don't honestly know what they are lol There are others on this forum who know way more than me about diet and I'd say they will pop in at some stage, but I would also assume it to be acid reflux and maybe try to take notes or pay extra attention on what comes before the vomiting. Excessive exercise too close before dinner will sometimes do it to ours, too If you take notes it might be easier to figure out if there is something triggering it that you might not have noticed before
  10. What do you feed? Sorry if you already said and I missed it
  11. That is not being said. A couple of posters have suggested that experts be brought in to examine the dogs, where they lived, what sort of environment (physical and emotional) that they lived in, and then do autopsies on the dogs. Experts might be involved. I certainly know that one at least was involved in the Ayen Chol case. Don't think it was reported on the TV but I work with her hubby. Have you read the Coroner's report on that incident? Because I have. Go ahead and read what the "expert" found, it will make you laugh and cry all at the same time.... There were indicators suggesting the dog was kept chained on concrete and it had large ulcerated pressure sores. There was no fence or gate mentioned between where the dog was kept and the garage door, which necessarily has to open to admit the car..... They very specifically refused to do any further investigation into the dog's health, they did a visual inspection of the carcass only. No temp test. The whole thing was a farce and the cause of the attack was determined to be the breed, which was "pitbull"........... Would be funny if the topic was not so serious. If I were a parent of that child I would publically blast this incompetent coroner for that incompetent report and the lack of answers it brought! What a waste of money and time.
  12. I'm just going on a hunch... And from experience I know exactly what will happen next.. Nothing. No investigation, the dogs with be PTS ASAP and nobody will hear about this ever again except in a context that lays more shit on the alleged breeds involved. I've skimmed through comments on many of the articles and all you get is the usual "but pitbulls are not bad if you raise them right!" and the other extreme "these dogs are monsters and need to be eradicated!". The odd comment saying they are not actually this or that breed and the owner should be punished definitely crop up now and again, but I have not seen many comments asking "why?" at all. I have a poor opinion of the public as they let themselves be whipped into a fear induced frenzy every time the media runs a story like this. Where do you think BSL came from? People demanding answers? Heck no, people demanding some sort of knee jerk reaction that makes them feel safe (even if it is completely useless at actually making them safe) It's no different than calls for stricter gun laws every time an unregistered firearm is used in a crime... Last time I looked idiots who do these things don't follow the laws anyways but try to explain this to Joe Bloe and see what kind of reaction you get
  13. I wish the media could be convinced to crucify the owners instead of the alleged breeds when broadcasting this sort of news. Almost all the articles seem to be dedicated to breed guessing and rehashing the gory details, nobody has even mentioned that the owner should face punishment for failing to contain his dogs. Everybody has speculated whether they are pitbulls, bulldogs or freaking Marsians and nobody has even dropped a word wondering if they were socialized, vet treated and exercised regularly. Nobody wondered what kind of set-up they were kept in. How came they to be loose on the streets? Do they live on chains or loose in a backyard? Do they have indoor access? How tall is the fence meant to contain them? Is there a fence at all? People really need to start looking for answers (and demanding them off the investigators) rather than just calling for dogs to be put to death and and disposed off ASAP. They should be temp assessed by a behaviouralist, vet checked for medical issues, autopsied after death and the premises they are kept on should be searched (as often times people owning offending dogs seem to have other issues like drug and violent crime offences behind them) and it should be determined exactly how and why those dogs were loose and what may have triggered the behaviour (poor temperaments? pack mentality? prey drive? high vale items? don't laugh, children have reportedly been mauled to death after walking into a backyard full of dogs whilst carrying a meat pie or other food). Sometimes I wonder how many brain cells the public really have between them, to not even demand answers past the usual "it's a pitbull, that's why" and calls for more stringent pitbull laws, when none of these dogs ever come labelled with a pitbull stamp on their ass. Nobody knows for sure what is in a cross bred.
  14. Then I do not understand your reference to separate breed and such.. The Staffordshire Bull Terrier (often called English Staffy) has not had any breed separation happen recently that I am aware of, whereas your comment sounded like you might be referring to AmStaffs and Pitbulls? Sorry I am a little confused what you meant?
  15. I think you and your Cocker are doing really well, especially seeing as you haven't had any lessons at all so far! I agree that you will probably need to reward a lot more to help her motivation and running with them helps. I also run ahead to speed up my dog when necessary. In the beginning we learnt to reward every single obstacle on its own (I've only had a few month of lessons so far myself) and we always mix up the obstacles after a few go's so the dog doesn't get bored and learns to actually watch for your direction, rather than anticipating and doing it on their own. I would suggests you do include more breaks where you praise and pat your dog and let her breath and think for a second, rather than getting her to do the same thing over and over. As I said, I think you are doing really well (better than us, we just can't get our head around the weave poles and your dog seems to be doing them very confidently!) and I think you might actually find yourself pretty competitive with this dog after some more work and some lessons :)
  16. I think you might be talking about American Satffordshire Terriers Mummamia, which is a different breed again.
  17. Definitely. Privately I often think to myself that people who go out of their way to buy a puppy from a reg breeder will be more likely to spend the money on appropriate vet care (chips, vaccination, taking it in for issues that some people just shrug off until they totally escalate), nutrition, housing and training and I also think that those people have generally done more research and informed themselves on topics like early socialization and stuff.... These differences may be giving puppies from reg breeders an advantage that relates purely to their owners, not the way they were bred or raised until sale. I may be making very broad generalizations here but as I said, that is just what I think... Nothing scientific about it....
  18. Ok ok. I have since found news articles from today that say a 17 year old was questioned and later released. Maybe they decided or thought they were going to charge him? 17 is still a minor I believe, but I don't regard that as a "child" anymore. I hope they receive some punishment as well if they were there and part of it.
  19. Just for clarity's sake, I was the one who said I was curious. And I was. No offence intended.
  20. I wonder if they even know how many cats they have.. Do they notice if they disappear (due to snake bite, cat traps, dogs, foxes, whatever)?? I do hope that all the cats are actually desexed but if I was their neighbour (even a rural neighbour, cats can roam for several km) I would not appreciate hundreds of cats visiting my property looking for food or entertainment and shitting everywhere...
  21. Do you have a link? What do you mean, children arrested? I saw no children in the photo?
  22. Well that was pretty much the outcome I expected... Wonder if the government will accept it as evidence to ban the sale of puppies form pet shops? Oh what, let me dream for a second
  23. Do we get to know the outcome? (sorry but I have to admit to being curious... )
  24. Very sensible. You're also doing a valuable community service by making that move. Agreed. Would be great if we could get an update once she has experienced the consequences of her behaviour. Who behaves like that, seriously. Maybe a call to a mental institution would be in order as well....
