  1. Thanks so much for the understanding...so nice to be understood...rather than criticised or laughed at saying its only a dog (Yes such people still exist)! Im going to take him for a second opinion. Hes actually doing very well. He has stopped drinking as much (now the weathers cooled). And He has an ear infection....which has driven him crazy as he cant use his back legs to scratch and this has put him off balance, as well. Im unsure what he would be like, when the dose of Rimadyl is lowered. Im wondering and hoping that its this ear infection that has caused him to be so distressed....and off balance. Spose the week with Rimadyland Surolan drops for ears will tell? I just think that he looks too good to end it now...and I know how much ear infections hurt. Hes 100% to what he was, happy and eating and not heaving and drinking heaps.... Time will tell and I hope we can buy some more time....painfree. I think I know George more than anyone, and this Vet has been wrong b4...treating a thyroid disorder as a skin allergy Hes on 2x100mg a day of Rimadyl spose we are all just waiting to see the effects after 3 days when the dose is halved. Going for second opinion to another Vet as...I`d like to have him sedated and his ears flushed...Im not sure there isnt something in there? He wont let anyone near it and growled at the vet ...and actually bites the bottle of Surolan Suspension...a sign that he is in a great deal of pain and being protective...as in his 12 years has never shown any human aggression and is somewhat passe with other dogs. All in all playin it by ear...... One day at a time Just tryin to make sure I know whats going on because he looks like a different dog...one far too healthy and happy....to PTS?
  2. So sorry Sidoney, know exactly how you feel. But gee what a fantastic legacy your wonderful gal has left behind Future lines of grandpups...Love and life continues Thinking of your clan Kind regards sue
  3. After visiting the vet for an impartial and objective view....and health check up. He has advised me that 12 yr old George is in pain with spondalitis, calcification between vertabrae effect nerves and thus his back legs often `go` under him. His drinking and peeing huge amounts may involve kidneys and stress. Hes lost 6 kgs since the last Vet visit and is 52kgs A massive GSD x Ridgeback (throback) of a Bloodhound. hes given me Rimadyl and advised me to make plans....return in a week This is the same vet whos dog scared the hell outta me as it looked like a ghost...was a 18 yr old wrecked kelpie he couldnt `let go`...blind and deaf and hardly moving. Making plans and appointments for the demise of those you love is one of the hardest yet selfless courageous acts you can do. Ive said i have no qualms ....about doin this deed....as this majestic friend has had a wonderful long life (especially for a giant dog)...living on 120 acres in Rural bliss and yodelling with the magpies. The most loving yet protectively discerning with `good` judgement guardian soul . While i can say I have no qualms...I have tears, many of them ...every time he looks at me. If Id had the medication to end his pain last night i think i would have quietly and without fuss. But a time to die.....a plotted planned...time to die...YUK Appointments made with everyone for `their` convenience When he looks at you with those loyal devoted eyes....and wags his tail Im sure he knows.....he sure as hell gets very alarmed when I cry I said I had no qualms....now im checking out norwegian made baby prams to see if i can modify them so he has a set of wheels to drag his useless back end behind the rest of his `very together` mind, body and spirit.... Sitting in the garden plotting holes.....will the others attempt digging him up? Do I want a stranger to take his huge loyal body somewhere strange and cremate...as is advised as he is so big? I know hes had a great `innings`, moreso than most dogs.... But I know Im gonna cry a River under that freakin Rainbow Bridge Before we walk across it.... As I dont want to upset my dear longtime friend..... Looks like another Golden Elm will be planted Everydays a bonus and I cant let on Im sad as it distresses him so.... Having the courage to find a time to die...is sick making But have also been told its a privelege? Some go withoiut any knowledge...far too soon and with haphazard arrangements...regretted afterwards Sorry to ramble....not real impressed And tryin to hide anything from dogs is near impossible (specially oldies) Off to not look him in the eyes....cos we intimately know Glimmer of hope that a week of prescribed management and blood test results re kidneys show a miracle But reckon hes telling me hes doin it tough Staring at him as I see his metamorphis into a Golden Elm Making him feel its ok to go now....and yet he still perks up over pork treats, and is very concerned that any of the other dogs are getting them. I`ll have resilience as long as he has.....like many I pray hed go in his sleep
  4. Its extra hard no doubt Lenni as his brother would be wandering around looking too. This makes it exceptionally hard when you witness such attachment. Please try to turn the pain around, and rejoice over the privelege to have the memories of what looks like an exceptional lil dude... For sure its so sad...but I have absolutely no doubt he had the most wonderful life with you. Hopefully the sorrow can heal into rejoicing for having known. Kind regards sue
  5. Know how you feel....every days a bonus No consolation, but 13 is an astounding age for such an active breed A great credit to you both....much love
  6. aaah you had the courage to be his greatest friend, a priveleged honour to let your close friend go in peace and without pain in dignity. Know how you feel....Im off to the vet at 11am tomorrow, with a 12 yr old huge ol boy whos back legs have perhaps finally gone and I think weve run out of treatment and management of spondylosis of a 58 kg boy who i think is in a great deal of pain...off to get a few impartial views wether this next round is manageable....or hes off to be pain free. We are lookin at each other as i size up wheel carts for my huge ol friend....he`ll be 12 on Wednesday, wondering if he`ll begin and end on that day...as hes also drinking a great deal, peeing a great deal and losing weight. Think hes tryin to tell me hes had enough....very personal and we`ll know Just was hopin to celebrate his b`day and throw him his bouquets whilst still alive... But I have no qualms about saluting a dear friend and helping his pain free exit... I have a deal with my dad who wants to go the same way, pain free, with peace and dignity I know its so incredibly hard.....but you were the ultimate of friends Stagger on rejoicing...in having known such a dear dog friend Feel him all about you...in all things beautiful Run free lil dude, much loved
  7. I plant as many Golden Elms as people will let me.....in memory Very therapeudic
  8. Cosequin is very concentrated...? Less is needed I believe. But your advice is sound and makes a great deal of sense mags...
  9. Any change in the intake of prednil, should be done as directed by vet and adhered to as it can effect adrenal and thyroid....so dont come off too quick. Ive also found MSM Join Formula (human supplement)...a far superior product to Sashas Blend. Theres a pharmaceutical who currently retails it online for $32.95 500g and the MSM component is a sulphate that assists pain relief....Ive seen remarkable results with this product...and take it myself, as human grade.
  10. I wouldnt be using tins that have been left in the sun, or in a car.....they are potentially bad medical experiments If contents of can does survive....one can only imagine the level of preservative in the can if not putrid.

    Luther

And what a Shepherd! Death B4 Dishonour Beautiful dog, ridiculous outcome! So very sorry for your loss. Beautiful Luther xoxox
  12. Oh sorry rappie and lily ....you sound like nice genuine people ...and me is nasty I was just peeved cos so much of the `competition` in the food industtry use the qualified nutrionist tag without the Hills tag. Making people believe they are something they are not I too havent a prob with samples.....I test drive my cats on them :D Just seems Hills are into world domination But hey its better than what a lot of other animals get
  13. Apologies lilly111....sincerely did not mean anything personal. Its just my pet hate at the moment re the Hills courses and some people who then call themselves nutritionist in general ! Your right Hills has its place....depends on the owner and what they are prepared to do with and for their dog.
  14. Good to hear l1, Just that Ive found on numerous resumes and advertisements when people say they are a trained `nutritionist`, it only means they have completed the `Hills` folder? Bit disappointing as its very biased being there products only...glad to see your not advertising as such Im surprised you dont get the free 4 for one deal....as is offered to shops and Vets? Have noticed prescibed diets becoming more popular now... Good to hear you know about their products....weve found the feedback not to be so good re the product. But everyone is different and because so many vets and associates recommend it .... it seems to do very well for the company. No need to have a twist....Ive dont the course too, wanted to post because I feel I know about the product too....from the not so complex course and feedback.

    Mr Troy

whoaaa condolences...thats a lot to miss He looks like he hung in there as long as he could Truly at peace now Experience him in all things beautiful Kind regards Sue
  16. I have found Repel X by Troy effective but need to reapply ideally during the day Regular bathing helps... was once told by an arkansas pig farmer to use Avon skin so soft talc powder as blocks pheremones? That attract flies? Also had a dog with lymphoma and the flies always went to him first... If you find an antiseptic and repella that is best for the ears as drN has stated ]You have to stay on top of it and remove blood crusts... know the prob with cortisone=water intake=peeing! Ask your vet if limiting water intake whilst your at work is an option so that he can stay indoors....I hate flies, sand flies acan drive animals nut! And after being bitten i can understand why
  17. Oh sorry forgot to add the ...nothing personal disclaimer Pisses me off lately how many people advertise themselves as nutritionists because they have completed the Hills ....feed nothing but Hills Nutritionist Course? Havent they told you yet if you are a distributor and collect 4 bar codes you receive a bag to the value free?
  18. I use BARF as is easier for me But have found Advance turk and Rice puts incredible shine on coats, so always have a bag. Have just stocked Royal Canin and Nutrience, have heard some wonderful things about these products from prob dogs. Ive never tried Eagle pack and dont stock it as yet but have heard they are wonderful in GSD field? Maybe you should guive them a call Holly...know many GSD`s with allergies just usin Euk, changed to BARF and much better? Very interested in Eagle Pack users and feedback, cos altho we dont stock at the moment thinking of doing it....because looking at the samples and test driving on cats and dogs they seem to love it?
  19. Pound animals would not refuse to eat much! But as soon as they are in a new home they often wont touch Hills Dont know if psychological or not But given a choice they often turn their noses up. Waltham is not Royal Canin? And I dont think you can call yourself a nutritionist after doing Hills feeble....`use Hills only nutritionist course` :D Very misleading that one! There is no perfect dry.....depends on the INDIVIDUAL dog and owners lifesty;e I choose BARF and Advance Turkey and Rice as Ive seen the results and have worked in the pet food industry for 9 years and have a totally unbiased opinion because Im not really into being bought off to sell a product that doesnt show results but I can get kick backs on...thats not my idea of an infomed open minded `nutritionist` Starving pound dogs once liberated and given a choice cant be wrong Hills I believe to be very over rated and highly recommended because of the kickbacks recieved...can be useful for specific probs like oral care and cat h/ball

    Rip Puppy

12 weeks old and never passed somebodies idea of a temp test because he could jump too high? PTS way too young by a branch of an organisation that claims to protect from cruelty.... No other vices and no other dogs for sale.... Straight from the horses mouth Complain no dogs available and then dont pass one of 2 that you do have cos he jumps so high....at the grande ol age of 12 weeks Please all who visit this forum check out where your donations are going and what they contribute to? There are youngsters in charge of `welfare organisations` that simply arent qualified to even play God on a bad day in dogdom..... This pup took one wrong leap of faith....and paid the ultimate price. Ironically just to be united with humans on the other side of that fence when impounded and being temp tested for `issues` :D Ive been astonished and gutted all day, especially when I know how other branches of the same org and all those that rescue here...will visit potential homes to check frences and help work thru any such rather simple issues. PTS for having leg muscles...WTF RIP puppy, an agility/flyball champion in the making? Guess we`ll never get a chance to know...... 4 less paws to worry about in the Million Paws Walk :D RIP, lil guy.....but not in vain
  21. Have also heard/seen Eagle Pack helping Goldchow. Also Nutrience Derma-Lamb bics Both these products contain Yucca shigiera (sp)? Both dogs were on BARF previously Not advertising just found it worked for 2 Newfs, Sharpei and Goldens, Dally Altho 2 Goldens came good with phennigan? As lymph glands always up and terrible hot spots.
  22. Incredibly beautiful... But bloody tearful howlers Stunning visuals and pic of your beloved
  23. Oh Rozzie, so sad for you. I know so many people at the moment that have had to PTS their dogs (bad health and or old age) and the one comment they have all said is...wish theyd just go in their sleep. Your a legend, to make so many great dogs lives even better. And when and if they finally depart this earth...they go with love and dignity...thanks to you. Your an inspiration, and a dogs best friend
  24. Think the only thing youve left out aatianc is shitake mushrooms Think I`ll partake in the diet you suggest myself Your absolutely correct ... re nutritional advantages of everything you have suggested
