The reason I show my dogs is because I want the opinion of a judge who is experienced enough to judge my dogs. Why bother paying to show your dog if the judge has no experience in the show ring or with breeding proven dogs. I'm glad they have the rules in place to become a judge otherwise what would be the point in showing my dogs to someone who has not even proven themselves to have the right or knowledge to judge others peoples dogs.

LOL My dogs are large breed seniors so were here well before my daughter. I was thinking of putting my daughter in one of those dog pound shutes as that should solve my problem LOL (joking) We could never part with our dogs (or daughter) as they are all part of the family so we are just going to do whatever we can to help our daughter. I took my daughter to the doctor today who has recommended allergy testing starting with a blood test so we will go from there. The doctor explained to me that as she has been around my dogs since birth that it can over time build up to a point where the allergys surface. She also said that she could out grow the allergy too FX.

Thank you all for your replys with your experiences and ideas. You have all given me some fantastic things to try/do. I will be taking my daughter to the doctor tomorrow to find out about allergy testing. This is so devastating as our dogs are so much a part of our lives and my daughter loves them. She is only 2 1/2 years old but is so involved helping me prepare there meals, making their beds, bathing them etc. She follows them around the yard copying what they do. Plus the dogs are fantastic with her even thou they had not really been socialised that much with children before she came along. Thanks again everyone :)

I was hoping someone may have some advice. My little girl has just started to develop allergies to our dogs. She becomes absolutely covered in hives everytime she touches them. From what I have read on the net she should avoid the cause of the hives as it will only get worse I would never get rid of our dogs as they are part of the family so there must be something I can do to help my daughter. Thankfully my dogs are outside dogs so at least she is not exposed to then in the house. Has anyone got any advice?

100% agree with you. From what the owner has written on the other forum she is claiming to have been told they would not be destroyed for 9 days. I think if someone did say that to her they are very irresponsible cause anyone that works in a pound knows that can be impossible if you get an influx in dogs. I have always told people the same as you have once they are surrendered they no longer have ownership or rights to the animal and it can be pts at anytime. Sadly like you this has deterred no one from surrendering. The owner of the dogs should have put them in a boarding kennel until they resolved the problem if she did not want them pts. It makes me wonder what her reaction would have been if the dogs were rehomed as it seems from her forum posts she has no understanding of the meaning of surrendering ownership which should have been explained at the time of surrender. My biggest concern about all this is whether or not they were destroyed by rifle as the owner claims, as I do not agree with this method of euthanasia when there are more humane options available.

I found this on another forum that I frequent the owner of the dogs pts posted a link to it on the forum. Apparently these dogs were also pts by rifle which the owner is naturally devasted about and is complaining to coucil about. http://www.theguardian.com.au/news/local/news/general/pound-investigation-underway/2645551.aspx

Rehoming Dogs With History Of Livestock Attacks?
tobie replied to tobie's topic in Dog Rescue (General Rescue Discussion)
Below is a link to the CAA NSW regarding Dangerous Dogs. Like I said its not about whether I agree with it but it is the law in NSW. Declaring a dog dangerous is to prevent the dog from doing the same thing again. I guess it is the only way the gov/councils can prevent something from happening again as it has all ready been proven that the owner can not be relied upon to control the dog in the first place. I guess if your the owner of a much loved horse that has been mauled or valuable live stock that has been killed you wouldn't care less if it was the instinct of the dog. The owner should have been aware and responsible enough to prevent this in the first place. http://www.austlii.edu.au/au/legis/nsw/consol_act/caa1998174/s33.html -
After reading the thread about Ned and how the previous owners other dog killed a lamb and he had his dog pts for this. I noticed a few people were against the dog being pts for this. This got me thinking as from working in animal shelters for years now I have seen councils declare dogs dangerous for killing live stock on numerous occassions (I'm not saying I agree with this) I'm just saying it is reality and is a consequence of what can happen if the attack is brought to the attention of council. I'm curious to know what your thoughts are on whether a dog with a history of killing live stock should or should not be rehomed knowing that this dog could/would be declared dangerous by council if they were aware of the matter. At work we have no choice but to pts these dogs whether we like it or not. Do rescue groups rehome dogs with a history of killing live stock or are they pts?

I was thinking the same thing. Has the owner been given a chance to be reunited with the kitten as per the CAA as there could be an owner desperate to find their missing kitten? My apologies if the correct procedures have been followed. I just get worried when owners are not given a chance to be reunited with their pets as I see it all too often sadly working in an animal shelter.

With so many attacks, bites, maulings or whatever you want to call them going on. I am getting to the point I don't really care what the victim was doing whether or not the 3 year old should have been taught this or should have been taught that the facts are the stupid owner should have their dog on a leash as this is the law and if the owner followed the law this would not ever have happened. A dog owner has a responsibility to protect their dog and the community from their dogs actions. Thanks to another idiot owner a child is scarred for life whether mentally or physcially and another dog will most likely be euthanised, oh and lets not forget another attack to add to the list leaving another cross against dogs. :mad

 I thought you were all just calling him Farmer Dave as a joke. I just looked at the link and saw he calls himself Farmer Dave. What an idiot .

I too feel your pain as I walk my dogs everyday and on numerous occassions loose dogs have charged/attacked my dogs as a result one of my dogs has become fear aggressive towards other dogs so now reacts everytime he sees other dogs. My dogs have always been very well socialised however due to these attacks my boy can no longer be trusted around other dogs other than my own dogs as he is a giant breed so he could cause too much damage to another dog and I just don't want to risk it. It is so frustrating when you do the right things with your dogs ie walk reguarly, socialise etc and all it takes is irresponsible owners having their dogs out and your dog suffers as a result.

 Well done SM you did a fantastic job. Your dogs are lovely. LDH Needs to either close down or get someone to run the place that actually knows what they are doing. The guy is a moron and whats with the bow tie

Working in animal welfare I have seen numerous pups this young act in a highly aggressive manner towards other dogs including there own litter mates. I personally beleive some pups are born/inherit these traits. I don't really get why this lady reported the matter I guess other than she was very concerned about what could happen when this dog becomes an adult.

Poll On Yahoo - Should Rottweilers Be Outlawed In Australia
tobie replied to TrinaJ's topic in In The News
Voted NO All I can say is some people are absolute idiots and will never learn. Be interesting to see how the press would react if a Lab or CKCS bit someone. Would they have the same poll. I highly doubt it. Rotties are a brilliant breed. Over the years having worked in animal shelters I have come across quite a few and they have all been absolutely sooky beautiful natured dogs. -

That money could have done so much to help so many stray animals. It is such a shame and disappointment that the money will not be spent on what it seems the donor would have truly wanted his money spent on. I wonder if Graham asked the donor before he died what he would like the money spent on as I highly doubt he would have said a private vet clinic.
-
The animal shelter I work at always vaccinates and then again vaccinates a month later. We do this because we have no idea of the dogs history so we have to presume it has never been done. In over a decade I have never experienced any problems with the dogs from doing this. I'm not a vet so have no idea how nessassary it is but our vets recommend it so we just go with their recommendations.

tobie replied to tobie's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
Thanks for the advice everyone. I'm thinking that it could be the food. I have over the years tried different dog foods and this has not changed a thing however I have not tried Barf so will look into it. Fingers crossed it works and I will have nice smelling dogs soon -
Looking For Advice- My Dogs Stink :(
tobie replied to tobie's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
Thanks for your replies. It's definately not the ears as they have been checked and I have tried numerous shampoos and still nothing. Maybe I'm just blessed with two very smelly dogs. -
I'm hoping someone will be able to offer some advice in regards to my dogs odour. My dogs always seem to have a fairly strong doggy smell which I can not get rid of. I reguarly bath them and all their bedding but the smell is always back within a day. They do not have any skin conditions and have a shine in their coats so I can't figure out what would be causing this They are fed a premium brand dog biscuit. If anyone has any ideas or tips it would be appreciated. Thanks :D

Unfortunately some people don't have a sense of humour hey :p

It's great to hear that the owner is being responsible and trying to help out by taking his dog indoors when he can. Unfortunately if a dog in your care escapes your yard and enters your neighbours yard it would be your responsibility not his as it is your legal responsibility to keep dogs in your care or ownership contained in your own yard. Although I presume he would have to take you to court for damages regarding his bitch being impregnated as council could not do anything about that What breed is your Aunts dog? Do you think it could jump the fence?
