Keira stopped our housemates car from getting broken into one night. She was barking and barking and we couldn't work out what at, we looked outside saw nothing it wasn't until the next morning we found our housemates rear triangle window smashed, but that is as far as they got. I tend to trust my dogs instincts both are very people friendly so if they are put off by someone there is usually a reason. On the flip side a couple weeks ago my sisters partners Ex (sorry confusing I know) showed up at our house drunk with 2 friends (1 male, 1 female) at 10 at night looking for their son, banging on my door, I went out opened the door and they pushed into the house (I had shut my bedroom door and told the dogs to stay) there was a lot of screaming and yelling, about 30 seconds in Keira comes trotting out of the room.....and did nothing LMAO! She just wandered out slowly like she knew she shouldn't have left the room (it is a sliding door they can open on will) but wanted to see what the commotion was, I went and put her back in my room. I tend to think she didn't get fired up about it because it wasn't really a dangerous situation, obviously there wasn't any malicious intentions other than to scream and yell. Mason-Gibbs I agree. Last year my 4 year relationship ended 3 months later I bought home Phoenix, she is my heart dog, she has changed my life. I went from being alone and depressed with only 1- 2 friends to happy, independent with so so many good friends, friends I met through her (dog training) and a new career path on the horizon. I couldn't be happy and I attribute my huge life change to my baby girl.

Well Coco is lovely and you sound like you will do all you can to keep her safe. You'd better do all you can to keep other peoples children and animals safe from her when she grows into the powerful Landshark she will be. And if you needed any more proof that he won't listen here is a post of CS's from over 2.5 years ago (from here http://www.dolforums.com.au/topic/127139-non-questioning-vets-in-nsw/page__st__45). He has always been a PB hater. Actually with the use of the word Landshark and comments made in another forum I am starting to suspect Clubsprint is Hugh Wirth.

As Tybrax has said Clubsprint was banned from another dog forum only 2 or 3 days ago (and then re registered under a different name and tried to start s**t by posting a new thread). On that forum we have had THIS exact conversation in more than 4 different threads. I applaud everyone for their effort but would advise not to even bother, he has been provided with all of this evidence, all the links and everything else and he blatantly ignores anything that proves BSL does not work. He picks and chooses which parts of your posts to reply to, he takes things out of context to make them work for him. He is not worth all of your valuable time because you won't change his mind or his stance.

Not sure if they have space available over Xmas. But an old colleague of mine owns a kennel down near Robina (Gold Coast) called Abbeyards. Her parents run it for them and they have many years experience (previously owned their own kennels). What a sucky situation to be in Poor dog over the fence must be so bored to be carrying on all the time. I have a similar problem with the maltese next door, it comes charging up to the wooden fence and barking and that sets Keira off who is reactive to other dogs, although Keira seems to be getting de-sensitised to it now and I can call her away from the fence which I couldn't before. In my situation though the dogs live inside during the day so it isn't a huge deal. If the black plastic idea doesn't work, you could get some chicken wire and star pickets and block off access to that part of the yard (next to the fenceline) so your dog cannot go over their to run the fence/fence fight with the other dog. On the note of your neighbours dog barking, I would be trying to approach them or to send them a letter about the barking to see if they will do something to stop it. Continuous barking is not on and if they do not want to fix it then a complaint to the council may be in order, especially if your going to try and sell the house, I can't imagine to many people are going to be happy when coming to inspect the house if they can hear the dog next door barking continuously.

This is so concerning. I hope no ones dogs accidentally get loose and eat these baits. Not to mention the wildlife. In general this is a cruel cruel way for any animal to die. As dog lovers/animal lovers we should be speaking out against this and trying to stop it from happening. Rozzie I am so so sorry about your dogs that is just horrendous. I wouldn't know what to do if that was one of mine.

My 4 yo used to be fine with storms and thunder but last year thought the hail would be fun to chase (she was at my Mums and the storm came on quickly) and got hit in the head by a piece. Ever since then she has been unnerved by thunder. She tends to try to hide under my bed if I am not home, otherwise she will get up where ever I am and sit close to me but I don't comfort her, I just let her sit there next to me and continue doing what I was.

Just reiterating what everyone else has said. There critical socialisation period ends at 16 weeks old, you have to do AS much socialisation as you can get in during this time, that doesn't just mean people and dogs but different situations as well. The risk of your dog catching parvo/other diseases is well worth it when you know your dog will grow up to be steady and well behaved because of your efforts. And as others have pointed out, you can walk parvo and other diseases into your own home. Your dog is already bordering on 13 weeks old so you are running out of time, get out there now and get socialising. I am not sure what breed you have but it is even more important with some breeds. Also agree with the rule of thumg 5 minutes of walking for every month of age. Good luck. Pictures!!

Oh really? Why is that? I would be interested to know from a training perspective. I have his DVD's and I've learned a lot from them. I think he's great...though I've heard that some people feel strongly about his methods. I've never understood this. Does it have something to do with the way he rehabilitates condemned dogs? For basically the reasons Hardy's Angel has stated above. Too aggressive, over the top. Doesn't get results. He has been sued multiple times for various reasons. Don't believe in Dominance theory. Alpha roles ick. The fact that people try his techniques at home and even in dog parks on other people's dogs. Because he floods dogs (ie: putting a dog reactive/aggressive dog over threshold) and then punishes (he calls it correcting) the dog for its reaction. How many episodes do you see him put a stressed dog into a bad situation and come out with dogs injured because of fights? I have seen a least several occasions of this and have only watched maybe 20 or so episodes. A lot of Cesar Millan fans seem to think he is the only trainer on the planet who "rehabilitates" (I use that word but I don't think he really rehabilitates them.) condemned or "red zone" dogs. When in fact he is not. My mentor is a behavioural trainer and uses purely R+ methods and has rehabilitated many "red zone" dogs without strangling, hitting, kicking etc etc.

Cesar Millan, didn't like him before. Like him less now.

Rainy - On another dog forum, I (and other members) have basically been having the same discussion. What I can tell you is that it is a waste of your time, any conclusive facts or info you provide against BSL will be ignored, they will only choose to answer certain parts of your post, they will use websites that are biased and useless like dogsbite.org to back themselves up, they will pick and choose parts from your posts, others posts, news articles, websites and use them out of context to back themselves up, you will go around in circles. And in the end nothing has changed, not their mindset, not yours. You will just end up a lot more frustrated then you were before the thread began. Tell him he isn't worth your time and that if he wishes to live with his head in the sand being ignorant and naive then that is his problem not yours, and then move on

Wow, what a different approach to stray dogs. Good on Greece. I think the only way it could be better would be offering the dogs for adoption (the ones who are suitable for a home situation) ie: taking pics when they are getting chipped/desexed and putting them up on a website so if anyone is interested in adopting them they can.....

That is what I was thinking. Why hasn't something been done to force the company to pay what it has already been told by a court to pay to the woman they ripped off.

Sandgrubber - Only the very first part of the letter touches on plagiarism of the standard. The rest of the letter talks about the inadequacies of BSL and using a "standard" to identify dogs. It also touches on the fact that owners need to be held accountable etc.

If you are going to be leaving the soft crate outside I would recommend you buy one of the canvas crate covers (they are usually meant for the metal crates but come int he same sizes and can be used to cover soft crates as well) and use that as a double covering to be sure.

The Council are shocking! Oh they are only small so who cares! Argh! Glad you all come out of it ok. Hope the guy with the GSD is careful because even if his dog doesn't actually hurt them, it is likely the council will have a go at him because his dog is big and a GSD. I would just keep contacting the council and complaining. Contact a local newspaper or some other media and get them to do a report on how the council is ignoring complaints of dogs running loose in the street. Take photos of the dogs running loose to keep as proof. Are the SWF's registered with your local council?

Very true. Also just wanted to point out, although Tim is buying this dog as a present for Julia do you not think that she had say in the breed she wanted...? I am sure he asked her opinion and took her advice on what breed she was after.

Have no experience but would recommend you find a good chiropractic vet in your area to see if they can help out.
