  1. I was pulled over once by RBT. After Cop is finished testing me and before he tells me I'm right to drive off, he sees Sheila (my red ACD) secured in the back seat, so he leans his whole arm in the window behind me and roughly pats her on the head saying "D'day Blue!". Stupid! Thankfully, all she did was give him a filthy look. S OMG I could only imagine how that would have gone had she bitten him! I wonder what a cop would do in that situation, as it is YOUR car really he shouldn't have had his hand in there but I cannot see a police officer being entirely rational about that if he had been bitten. I was pulled over once for RBT also, Keira just wanted to lick them haha. As I said she is soooooo friendly, she just wants to say hi to people and get pats but when I am not in the car I don't know if she is going to be more protective.
  2. Yeah someone else said this elsewhere and I should have put it in the original post but she actually saw me park the car she was walking up the street as I parked so she knew it had not been sitting there very long. Also if she was concerned she could have waited to see how long I was going to be rather than doing something silly like sticking a hand in with an unknown dog. I should have spoken to her anyways re: sticking her hand in and hopefully stop her from ever doing it in the future but I didn't.
  3. Hey HogwatzBoxers, Just querying if this is only for people with Boxers and their other dogs or is this an open walk for people with all breeds of dog?
  4. Hi Esky, Here is a quick one I found. You can probably get them from a lot of good pet shops (ie: the ones who don't sell animals just products). http://www.callicoma.com.au/accessories1.htm
  5. LOL sorry Nekhbet. This was a quick write up. I will edit it shortly. I guess that is why she wasn't worried Keira wasn't barking on carrying on.
  6. The worst part is if they decide to make all non off leash beaches also dog free zones the people who just want to walk their dog on the beach without being disturbed by off leash dogs or people who may have DA dogs who want to give their dog a nice beach walk but who have to keep their dogs away from off leash dogs, do not have anywhere to go and cannot then also enjoy the beach. Punish the irresponsible owners who are not cleaning up after their dogs and let their dogs hassle people and leave those of us who do the right thing alone. Sadly Australia is becoming a more and more restrictive place to own a dog
  7. Will be now. As I said don't often do it as it is too hot in QLD but will invest in some so that if I do have to jump out for 2 -3 mins I will feel more comfortable.
  8. Oh good I am not a crazy Nazi dog person haha. This is exactly what I was worried about happening, glad he got the picture, he will probably never do that again. She was in HER car with Phoenix so she could have become protective. I don't leave them int he car often as I live in QLD so crazy hot, humid weather but I may just invest in a grill just for the odd occasions now. CrazyDogLady that is exactly my thoughts don't pat a dog in its car without permission. I wish I had managed to yell at her but I had only sucked in the breathe and she was walking away, I WOULD have looked crazy if I yelled at her after she walked away but she as lucky this time and might not be so lucky next time and I feel for the person whose dog may bite her.
  9. This is such a great idea. I dont know why more councils dont implement it. (maybe because some dog owners are totally irresponsible and would just ignore the restrictions anyway???) It is only a recent (maybe 2 years) development in our area, I am not sure what actually caused the council to start to build small dog parks but it was a very good idea. Hopefully as one council has done it more councils will follow the lead. This is such a great idea. I dont know why more councils dont implement it. (maybe because some dog owners are totally irresponsible and would just ignore the restrictions anyway???) We pushed hard for it locally but failed to achieve it. Perhaps we need to try again. I would say try again! My local council is Logan City Council, Queensland. Its worth a try now someone has implemented it. And both parks get used regularly and people follow the regulations ie. only big dogs in the big dog park and small dogs in the small dogs park. It is a good idea. Depends on the type of offleash space as to how practical it is, though. The off-leash space I usually take my dog to is a river walk that is designated multi use - the signs indicate that you're allowed to walk your dog off leash, go jogging, ride your bike, or ride your horse there. So separating it isn't really practical, the whole idea is that lots of different sorts of users should be able to share the space. It usually works OK, most people are pretty polite - I guess the dogs have to be reasonably well behaved so that they don't chase cyclists or joggers, who would give you an earful if your dog harassed them (and rightly so). I think it is a good alternative for those people who own SWF's etc who do not feel comfortable with their dogs being around larger off leash dogs though. Its great that you have somewhere like that to take you dogs though! And that everyone is mostly polite.
  10. This in itself can be considered an offence. If any dog runs up fast to me or my dogs it gets my boot in it's face. Even in an offlead dog park..? Definitely in an offlead dog park. Larger dogs rushing at smaller dogs are the reason that many owners of small dogs no longer frequent dog parks. Many smaller dogs have been injured at dog parks and when a larger dog rushes at them in a dog park on a later visit, it is terrifying for them and their owner. Such owners know that they can only take their small dogs there when the bigger dogs are not there and that was not how dog parks were intended to be. Even small older dogs are entitled to a bit of healthy exercise in a dog park, but often this can no longer happen because of a bad experience at a dog park. Don't let your dog rush at smaller dogs in a dog park. It is simply not on. Souff In my local areas the council actually provide separate big dog and small dog off leash areas. I think this is probably one of the best decisions our local council has made in relation to this. As sadly there are incidents where small dogs are sometimes injured or killed just by accident due to over exuberent play by larger dogs. I'm not sure if many other councils have adopted this idea though.
  11. So yesterday afternoon after 6 pm I got in my car with my two dogs to take them to an off leash dog park to have a run around together (yes I have a backyard but I like to take them somewhere different to stimulate the mind and to do some generalized training). I was looking for a park with no other dogs in it as Phoenix is only 4 months and Keira can be a bit overbearing. I parked up under a tree with the windows down a small way (so there was fresh air but Keira could only get her nose out a little bit) at a local park and as you cannot see the park from the street quickly jumped out to have a look to see if there was anyone in the park. As I have walked across the road a lady is walking up the street and I could see her intent almost immediately she was thinking about sticking her hand in to pat Keira. She walks up and lo and behold what does she do, sticks her bloody hand in just as I was about to yell out "Are you a bloody m***n" she walks off. NOW Keira is not at all HA she has never even so much as snapped at a person. She once barked at my partners friend but got over it once she met him (and he was dodgy anyways) but how does this lady know that. For all she knew the dog could have ripped her bloody hand off. And even if Keira has never been HA she may have been feeling threatened etc by the way the lady approached or she could have felt put out by the lady sticking her hand into the car. Either way this lady had absolutely no idea what the dogs reaction would be and had Keira snapped or bitten her she would have screamed bloody murder and Keira and I would have been left to deal with that the rest of our lives, as she could and probably would be declared dangerous after something like that. Now I know some of you will say you shouldn't have left her in the car etc etc but I was literally out of the car for less than 2 minutes I had no intention of leaving her there for any longer than that, it was after 6 pm so it was cool, I made sure that Keira could not get out of the car and could not even get her whole head of the window and I could see the car the whole time. Anyways that is my vent, I just cannot honestly believe people are so silly as to do something like stick your hand in a car with a strange dog, I would be loath to do that to a dog that I know or even a dog whose handler has said it is ok for me to do that, let alone a random dog that I walk past on the street. I have left Phoenix out as she just sits on the front seat watching me and not worrying about anything else. What would you have done in this situation? Has this happened to you? Has this happened to you and the worst happened (ie the dog snapped or bitten someone)? Thanks for reading/listening to my vent.
  12. Keira doesn't usually bark especially at night but she spent the whole night going off at something in the backyard and this wasn't just a woof woof this was full blown defensive/protective barking but when I went out to check nothing there at all and no noises very weird must be the full moon!
  13. Nice to meet you. This is my American Staffy X puppy for comparison she is now 18 weeks (tomorrow) As others have said cannot be sure the pet shop were telling thr truth or the pet show may have been lied to by the people who sold it to them.Your pup is gorgeous either way!
  14. Be So careful with dogs getting into rubbish. My brothers Staffy Lab Cross got into a bag of rubbish that it managed to pull through the fence and got its head stuck in a food tin and passed out. Luckily my brothers mother in law stopped by their place and found her and took her to the vet! She was OK luckily but scary indeed for my brother and fiancee.
  15. Good stuff Beagle Mum. Get them today if you can, the sooner the better. If he tries anything as I said before call the police and have them come and remove the dogs for you, they will do it as they are legally your dogs. Keep us up to date on whats happening!
  16. GO AND GET THEM. You do not know if you will be able to get them back if you don't get them now! If he refuses to give them to you you may just have to call the police and make a report, that way he will have to return them to you as they are microchipped in your name hence legally yours and then HE would have to take you to court to try to get the male and it would be up to him to prove somehow that the dog is his or should be with him. I am so glad when my long term relationship ended that my ex didn't worry about the dog because I would be devo without her!
  17. Sorry poodlefan didn't mean to make anyone sad Thought we had every other dodgy out there had to add the idiots that buy these dogs for the wrong reason in. Will edit my last post

  24. This happened to my sister. Her American Bullie cross went missing up here and QLD and it turns out that the people she got her from had not sent off the paperwork to register the microchip. Sadly we never found poor Nara wouldn't want this to happen to anyone else. Chase up the people who microchipped her and go from there!
