  1. The only area I know that has small and big off leash areas is Logan City. The spit is completely unfenced so there is no way of keeping the bigs and smalls apart.
  2. Awesome I didnt even know about it so thanks for posting!! Will definitely be going along I will be on my own too Kyojin, maybe we can organise for us DOLers to meet up ....
  3. Mine are Keira and Phoenix. In the past had Alex and Aaliyah
  4. Just an FYI for anybody who may be able to help, please see the link below: http://www.oscarslaw.org/
  5. OMG some people honestly. I cant believe how they make ridiculous assumptions and carry on like they own the beach. I once had two large dogs come charging up to me my OH and Keira (on lead as she doesnt have good recall) and i grabbed Keira and told me OH to get the other dogs away because I was unsure of what all 3 dogs reactions would be. Meanwhile their owners come strolling along at least a km behind the dogs I yelled out can u get your dogs away .... No response just keep strolling along when they did come past they told me I shouldnt have my dog on the beach if she is vicious (she isnt) I then proceeded to point out with a few expletives that the rules of the beach were to have your dog in your immediate vicinity and under effective control, I met both of those they however did not. Made me very angry!!
  6. wow, just WOW. They are absolutely fantastic, very unconventional and absolutely breath taking. That is the sort of stuff I would love to have hanging around my house! Artistic but not over the top so. Love it. Thanks for posting.
  7. It could have been attacked by a predator and gutted or found partially consumed. Found another more detailed story which quotes the lady as saying the dogs mouth was also crammed with dirt and mud . Not sure what happened and your right could have been another animal etc but still feel sorry for the poor doggy, seems more likely a person considering the dog had so much dirt in its mouth.
  8. Sadly the dog had injuries including missing its intestines and its mouth was full of dirt, like crammed with dirt and mud apparently.
  9. What a disgusting excuse for a human being, she was cruel and inhumane. RIP Diamond
  10. Yes well I am glad that at least the dog was already dead in saying that it also says the dog had puncture marks and its intestines were gone so something strange must of happened to the poor thing Just realised I double posted this. Only just saw that we now have a sub forum whoopsie!
  11. http://news.ninemsn.com.au/world/8202483/m...-of-ice-on-lawn Honestly what is wrong with people. Here is a link with more info http://www.vancouversun.com/news/body+froz...2485/story.html
  12. Hi Stay Calm, Just another quick suggestions, if your sister is feeling a bit overwhelmed with the amount she has to do ie: look after kids, dogs etc, plus house work, working etc etc then maybe just for the time being she can speak to OH about taking on a few of her chores, walking the other dogs etc so she has more time to spend training the new dog. I'm sure he is already helpful but there might be something he can take care of that frees up another 5 - 10 minutes of her day to spend with the dog Good luck and keep us updated on how she goes with it all. Also its compulsory to include pictures of said dogs...
  13. I'm going to say that Victoria seems the most "dog friendly" state bar BSL. They allow you to have your dogs on public transport, at cafes and other public places and there are really good facilities provided. Hmmmm one day might have to make the move, if the laws don't change beforehand. Thanks for the replies everyone
  14. Both of my dogs have been taught to sit drop at a distance from where we are eating. Keira got to the point where she knew she wasn't allowed close after many months or commando crawling towards us while we ate that she finally gave up and stopped coming into the room. Phoenix is still in training and has to stay on a mat in a room adjoining (she can still see us) and sometimes she will get up and try to come over in which case she gets a quick argh and sent back to her mat, other times she will start to whimper after 10 - 15 minutes but stay put. She is released once everyone is finished eating and I will often give her scraps off plates as a reward but only once they are back in the kitchen not in the eating areas.
  15. What an absolute idiot that guy is. To think that he is happy for his dog to just run around....and what happens if the dog attacks another dog or human or causes a major car accident, the cops or council rangers should find him and give him a bloody big fine. So far I have only had good experience when bringing home strays, I found about 18 months ago a lab running around our estate at 8:30 in the morning, I contacted the council and gave them tag number they were able to contact the owner and get her to call me but she was unable to get the dog until later in the day so lab went into the garage with a bowl of food and water for the day, she was very thankful even left chocolate when she picked up her dog I also remember a few years back when I was younger bringing home a s small stray and an older lady coming to get it. She was happy we had bought it home. A few months ago I found a gorgeous black great dane probably only 6 months old running around our neighborhood, HE WAS GORGEOUS, took a little bit for him to come to me and to get him in the car, he didn't have any collar or ID on at all so I took him to the Animal Hospital as it was a weekend afternoon no local vets were opened, he didn't want to get out of my car the gorgeous darling, I thought about keeping him and would have if they had called me and told me they didn't find a microchip but they did and he was picked up within an hour. We also used to have little yappie dogs across the street from us get out and run around on the street had to pick them up several times and take them back. I hope to doG that if either of my dogs ever gets out someone has the decency to pick them up and take them to a vet or the RSPCA both are chipped etc so they would find their way home from there. I would die if I ever lost them.
  16. Yeah I guess people could interpret my question many ways. But i was more alluding to places you can take your dog, places provided specifily for dogs and being allowed to have dogs in public places etc rather than how many dogs or breed legislation. Although if we take all of those things into account it changes again. Thanks for all the answers.
  17. My brother has found a nice camping spot at Canungra where you can take your dogs, its next too a stream/creek thing I think. I will have to find out the name of the camp grounds. Yeah that is my issue everywhere nice is National Park now. Like someone mentioned Mount Glorious which is part of the Brisbane Forest Reserve which used to be dog friendly but has now become part of the DAguilar National Park so no go with dogs, this seems to be the same with everywhere now. I have found 1 place for bushwalking that may be nice but I haven't seen it yet. I will PM you the name if you want
  18. Agree completely with everything you say especially about the unruly kids. My nephew is less well behaved then my dogs. I guess I am lucky in the fact that in the past 3 years I have only encountered loose dogs on 2 or 3 occasions in our area, and I think that was because they escaped and not were just let run free by irresponsible owners. I think our area is one of the better ones, although we don't have a dense population of dogs in comparison to houses in our area either.
  19. Hopefully she and all the dogs will come out of this ok. Also agree with the OP's comment, she must have made a real great impression to have a puppy buyer put up the money for her new property.
  20. Hi Caz, BSL = Breed Specific Legislation ie: legislation that prohibits or restricts the owning and keeping of certain breeds of dogs such as pit bulls. Hope this helps. If you want more info there is a specific forum about BSL/Legislation etc.
  21. Phoenix is a leg licker after showers she loves it, she also walks around the bathroom licking the floors Also she loves to run up to any of our other animals ie: cats and dogs and lick their faces for about 5 minutes straight. She isn't a big person licker although she does from time to time.
  22. You make an excellent point Poodlefan. I was speaking in terms of things to do, places you can take them though
  23. Am in the process of moving to NSW and have been looking up the various laws so I know what I'm in for. For those in NSW, you can have your dog with you in outdoor dining: COMPANION ANIMALS ACT 1998 - SECT 14A 14A Dogs not prohibited in outdoor dining areas in certain circumstances (1) The relevant legal restrictions do not prohibit a dog (other than a dangerous or restricted dog) from being in an outdoor dining area if: (a) the dog is under the effective control of some competent person and is restrained by means of an adequate chain, cord or leash that is attached to the dog, and (b) the person does not feed the dog or permit the dog to be fed, and © the dog is kept on the ground. (2) However, if the outdoor dining area is within a public place declared by a local authority to be an off-leash area: (a) it is not necessary for the dog to be restrained by means of a chain, cord or leash, and (b) the dog can be fed while the dog is on the ground, but not using any apparatus provided for the consumption of food by humans, and © the dog can sit on a person’s lap, but must not be allowed to sit on any table or chairs or make contact with other apparatus provided for the consumption of food by humans. (3) This section does not confer any entitlement on a person accompanied by a dog to use any table and chairs or other apparatus provided in an outdoor dining area by a food business (within the meaning of the Food Act 2003 ) without the permission of the operator of the food business. (4) The "relevant legal restrictions" are: (a) section 14 (1) (b), and (b) the Food Act 2003 and the Food Standards Code (within the meaning of that Act). (5) An "outdoor dining area" is an area that: (a) is used for the consumption of food by humans, and (b) is not enclosed, and © can be entered by the public without passing through an enclosed area in which dogs are prohibited by this Act or the other relevant legal restrictions, but does not include any part of an area that is used for the preparation of food. (6) An area is enclosed if, except for doorways and passageways, the area is substantially or completely enclosed, whether permanently or temporarily, by: (a) a ceiling or roof, and (b) walls or windows (or both). A point to note is that it also says that you cannot be deemed to be in effective control if one person is walking more than 4 dogs. For other states, there is legislation that relates to a dog being allowed in an outdoor dining area if that area is on a public pathway (ie table and chairs out the front of a cafe), unless there is a local law to override it. I'll post the link here when I find it. Found this for South Australia. This was for the Walkerville Council but it makes reference to a state government exemption which now allows dogs in outdoor dining areas. Still looking for the reference to the exemption: The State Government has exempted approved outdoor dining areas from Food Safety Standard Clause 3.2.2, sub-clause 24(1)(b) (which prohibits dogs in dining areas) providing the area is not enclosed. (See SA Government Gazette 13/11/03 p 4037 for definition of enclosure.) Nevertheless, animals must be under the control of their owners and must not cause a nuisance to other diners or pedestrians in accordance with the Dog and Cat Management Act 1995.  An Outdoor Café Permit holder may deny the entry of animals to a defined outdoor dining area under his/her control, in sections containing furniture, but may not prevent animals from passing by on public footpath space.  Animals must not be provided with food or permitted to seek and take food anywhere in or near to outdoor dining areas. One water dish may be provided for animals, providing it is on the perimeter of the designated dining area and is at least 1 metre away from patrons seated at tables. I cant find it right now but I know I have seen somewhere that dogs are NOT allowed in any restaurants, cafes or similar establishments that serve food and that includes outdoor dining areas in QLD. As I said can't remember where I found this. It also said any restaurants etc allowing dogs will face a fine. ETA - Here is a link to legislation that says you cannot have dogs in food areas http://www.foodstandards.gov.au/_srcfiles/...ments_v1131.pdf Section 24
