  1. That is very offensive. I was home schooled. I don't condone anything Jazzy4 said and I am well educated and gainfully employed and have been ever since I turned 16 (I finished grade 12 + some when I was 15) I got an OP 2. Please think before you post comments such as this because it is rude.
  2. Yeah, I thought you had to contact the company the chip is registered with to change it. Not the council. ??
  3. Yeah Phi has clicks and tricks on Sunday's at the moment. But I try to get her to sleep between that and play group while I spend time with Keira so she is rested. I understand though, sometimes I worry that she is getting too tired but she always seems to have the energy so I don't fuss too much. She sleeps great on Sunday nights though Fantastic, yay so excited to meet Willow. What Minxy said I would highly recommend you look into training with Urban they are awesome not just as trainers but just in general as people. They run loads of courses out of several venues including Carindale, Cleveland and Oxley. And they of course run play groups which are great socialisation tools because unlike dog parks they are very controlled, the dogs have fun but without the worry of a big dog hurting a little dog or the dogs getting over excited. Can't wait to see pictures of your new puppy!
  4. Oh doG she is gorgeous! Fantastic work to all involved in saving her life. She sure looks like she deserves another chance. Hope she has or does find a fantastic forever home.
  5. Naww what a sweety. If I didn't have two dogs I would be asking what rescue Hope he finds a home. Keep us updated if you can!
  6. Thanks Keira&Phoenix! Awesome! I'll pm or text you on Saturday to confirm. I'll bring Lucy. But if there seems to be any tension between her and your pup when they meet, I'll swap Lucy for Deanna No problems :p We are in adolescent but i will be there before you guys are finished so if your happy to hold onto Phi's leash for a few minutes while I can get puppy cuddles :D yay puppy cuddles!! It is really good Minxy all the dogs are really well behaved there are 4 sheriff dogs who stop any dogs that are getting over excited and on top of everyone watching their own dogs their is 3-4 urban volunteers and paul watching and timing out any naughty dogs. I have been going for 5 months and not seen anything even slightly out of hand. If your going don't forget to enrol and if its your first adolescent be there at 11:50 for induction. :D yay cant wait to see Kyojin again!! And you :D Scarlett will be there too! I doubt willow will do it she should be fine.
  7. Yep can you change the sub title to Anzac Park, Toowon 3 pm this Sunday. Thanks GG. HOpe you are having fun in NSW! Hey Ktt, I can pick you and one of your puppers up. I can be at your around 2/2:15 ish and we can introduce the doggies then head off to Toowong.
  8. What a horrible, cruel person. I hope she gets the biggest fine possible and is never allowed to own a dog again. Poor Patrick, I hope he makes a full recovery and finds a great forever home. This makes me so angry to HugurPup
  9. Met a dog at a dog park so not sure of its name Male Sherpei X Stafford, was black brindle colour, approximately height of a Sherpei with a Sherpei tail, a Stafford forehead (square) and a Sherpei nose. Strange, very tough looking dog!
  10. You can buy galvansied steel ones and a cover for them See here http://www.pethomesdirect.com.au/Dog-Produ...s-Tents-Covers/
  11. In Queensland we have a company that specifically sells them, separate from our Transport Department. Its $415 ish (once of) for a normal 5 - 6 letter plate with 3 numbers/3 letters or 2 numbers/3 letters And about $2000 for "Prestige" which are more or less than the usual amount of numbers so from 1 up to 7 characters There are a bunch of options also http://www.ppq.com.au/
  12. That first German Shepherd near the start he gives that a good ol' kick to the next. Yes there are few things in that video I find disturbing.
  13. For anyone who hasn't seen the video I have found a working link see below http://www.dancingdogblog.com/2011/03/cesa...-training-tool/
  14. You certainly can. There is, however, nothing else like a dog park you can expose your dogs to that will enable you to walk into a dog park some time later and be sure your dog will be comfortable with it. If you intend to use dog parks, start early if you have the opportunity IMO. Well you can it means looking for a suitable dog club or obedience club in your area which provides supervised play sessions in fenced enclosures. Or like many have suggested just going to the dog park during a non busy period with dogs that are the same age or size of the puppy. It is just too dangerous having bigger, over boisterous dogs with a puppy, its not just the psychological damage it is the physical damage a dog like that can do, or the damage your young dog can do to its growing bones by going overboard with the other dogs in the park. Hey OP check out your local Vizsla club http://www.hvcsa.webs.com/ also they have fun days (one coming up 2nd of April or around about that date) etc. You may be able to speak to other members about organising play dates etc also.
  15. OK So the meet is less than 2 weeks away everybody. Is anyone from the Western suburbs going to come?? WE still need suggestions of parks any ideas? If no one western suburbs is coming maybe we can do a more central meet...? Inner southern suburbs or something? EDIT: Spelling
  16. Everyone here has given fantastic advice. At 13 weeks I would say avoid dog parks or as already mentioned only go when there are only a few dogs of approximately the same size of your dog and watch how they are interacting with the other dogs first. It only takes 1 boisterous dog to do seriouosly long term damage to your pup whether that is physical or psychological. My trainers are big on socialisation to as many situations as possible by 16 weeks but they absolutely DO NOT recommend you go into a dog park until your dog is over 6 months or more. For this reason they hold a fanstastic free play group for members every week, one for puppies 8 - 16 weeks and one for adolescents 16 weeks to 12 months, it is great, the dogs get loads of socialisation but are watched carefully and kept under control by the people and by 3 -4 older dogs who act as sheriffs. The dogs learn to play politely and meanwhile do not get hurt. I am also able to use these play groups to practice recall which Phi is now fantastic at! I cannot recommend highly enough finding a controlled environment to take your pup to play in ie: obedience clubs etc. Good luck your pup is gorgeous. We have a few Vizsla's in play group they are beautiful little things
  17. Um, the OP? She said her Mum wasn't strong enough to restrain the dogs. Why is she walking a dog in public then? I would say she was walking Pixie the smaller of the dogs and obviously a dog she can handle. I wouldnt expect my mother to hold Keira and another dog it just wouldn't be possible. Nor would I have wanted her to put herself into a situation of running into that frazzle.
  18. Oh no. Hope your ok. Doesnt need to have a point bar to get it off your chest :p
  19. I can see both side of this. Personally I like watching the show and seeing the dogs transform and I think he communicates well with them and also has the right state of mind, he is calm all the time etc. I think dogs live in packs and work in a heirachy. I find some of his episodes very heartwarming. In saying that I think his methods can be extreme sometimes, that video although biased did open my eyes up to how much he really does kick the dog. And there are literally times in that video where he is "kicking" not tapping, full blown kicking. He floods the dogs with his methods, so instead of slowing working through the issues he will check the dog into a situation that causes it stress and then poke it, "tap" it and alpha roll it until it submits to him and the situation, hence why the dogs are still not 100% when they speak to the owners at the end of the episode. He has also been subjected to law suits due to the way he deals with dogs (http://www.usatoday.com/life/people/2006-05-05-dog-whisperer_x.htm this is just one example), this is part of the reason in the newer seasons you see him using more positive reinforcement then previous seasons. I also see wayyyy to many amateurs at the dog park alpha rolling their dog (incorrectly) and so on and so forth. As I said I do not hate CM and like to watch his show and think he is good at the communicating with the dogs but maybe not so much with other parts.
  20. Glad your ok OP as well as the old man, the baby and the SWF. What a horrible thing to have happened. Just wanted to add, everyone reacts differently in stressful situations. Some may think logically and others will panic, others will freeze and not be able to move. Please don't give the OP grief, she wasn't necessarily thinking straight and possibilities maybe didn't occur to her. And as already stated there were several other neighbors who came running out to help, she obviously felt the situation would be handled by these other neighbours and then realised her dogs/herself/mother were in trouble also so decided to remove themselves from the situation before it progressed into themselves being in trouble. I am sure had the situation called for it (ie no neighbours to help) the OP would have found a way to help. I would have done the same thing in the situation. I hold human life high but my dogs are my world and I couldn't and wouldn't put them in danger.
  21. Glad you decided to keep your pup, I am sure you will give him a loving home and the best chance of a happy life. I have a 3.5 yo female Bitza with severe hip displaxia (not scored, but if you saw the way she stands, walks and runs you would understand). She was diagnosed at around 18 months old after having surgery for luxating patella at 10 months old, but has had it since birth and she grew up on a good diet, was always a good weight and never had high impact or excessive excercise. In saying that she always walked funny so it should have been obviously but I wasn't experienced enough to realise. She is a tough one though and gets through every day like she is 100% healthy So I understand your concerns about taking on a dog who may in the future have problems (we are about $4000 in so far 2.5 yrs (since first surgery) about 1500 was surgery for patella everything else is vet, physio, medication, hydrotherapy etc) but as you have already said even if you had perfect hip scores no guarantee. If you have pet insurance then you are on the right track. I wouldn't bother with the Penn Hip a this stage. Wait until 12 months then look into doing it along with desexing. Good luck! BTW - Where are the pictures?!?!?!?
  22. I wish this forum had a thanks button like the other one I use does. THANKS!
  23. Thanks everyone. Ok so I asked the vet last night if he thought she had thyroid problems. He said no but mentioned hormone imbalance as the issue, I do trust him so I will be following through with our current medication which is volcomin (to both balance her hormones and help her joints), another joint medication and some chinese herbs which are also for both joints and hormone. I will be closely monitoring all the signs over the next 6 weeks or so and if there is no improvement I will speak with him again and ask for blood to be taken so I can get it tested even if he is still adamant it is not that. I would prefer to fork out the money and rule it out then for it to be the cause and not to know. On another note her hips do seem better, she seems to be walking better so yippee Thanks again All
  24. I would love to join Keira&Phoenix on Sunday. However, as mentioned in a previous post, I can't drive due to a medical condition. So, if anyone is going on Sunday and happens to be driving past the Mt Gravatt East area and would be willing to collect me and my dog, it would be great if they could let me know. I would bring one of my greyhounds (desexed friendly female). But I totally understand that it might not be convenient for anyone to collect us - just thought I'd check :D Kitt. Hi Kitt, I will be coming back from play group and will be passing your area around 2 ish, I could probably come and get you if you like and we can go straight over to daisy hill. So will be there for like 2:30 pm. I will PM you my mobile number :D She's in the Urban photos somewhere.. Here's a pic anyway (plenty more in the Bull Terrier thread) Sunday's aren't an issue with transport for me, it more the Scarlett is tired after her busy day. Saturdays are a winner I think Dandy's last comment was directed towards Kitt :D See you on Sunday for playgroup!
