I don't think it needs to be as far as banning toddlers/young children, my friend went over Easter Weekend and her toddler came out just fine. It comes down to the parents being responsible about their children. If you don't want to keep a constant eye on your child then don't go to Fraser Island or leave your kids at home with babysitters/family because they need to be closely and constantly supervised. Yes, but unfortunately there are a lot of people out there without any common sense who do not properly supervise their kiddies. It may be a tough restriction but if it saves lives (of both the dingo and human kind)... Not allowing children under a certain age rules out the scenario of the young child wandering off and getting attacked. Heck, I'm pretty sure one of the islands off Cairns in FNQ (Lizard, I think?) have an age restriction and that's only for quiet enjoyment of the island, nothing to do with predators. I would say the island in FNQ is privately owned though. I don't think Qld Government can put age restrictions on public land...

The Queensland Government need to do more work with Fraser. Being such a big tourist attraction they need to make sure the amount of rangers during peak periods on the Island are higher than what they currently have, the only time we saw rangers was at night time when they were checking permits for camping. They also need to start kicking people off the Island for things such as feeding the dingoes or encouraging them in any way, or people who are not being responsible and leaving their children unattended, leaving food unattended, leaving rubbish and scraps. It does need to be treated as a wild game reserve as others have suggested which means much better management by Queensland Government.

I am about to move houses to a rental (currently at my parents) and I am a little nervous that Phoenix (my Amstaff X) who is 8 months old may start fence jumping/escaping and the fences are not very high, this hasn't been a concern at my current place because there is always pretty much someone home even if she is left alone in her play pen but she will now be at home with just her and Keira for 10 hours a day. Was considering getting some sort of extension on the fencing but now people mention electric fencing that might be a better option. Where did you get your electric fencing from? What model is it? And approx how much was it? Thanks!

I wanted to get in somewhere that there is no proof the dogs were Pits that the police officers/witnesses might have identified them as that but they really could be any mix of any breeds that sort of look like Pits but aren't. Thought I might get told I was trivialising a womens death though so kept my gob shut.

Agree with this. If you have a BA stating the dog is say a Staffordshire Bull Terrier Cross then register in new council area in the new State as a Stafford X That is true but there are loads of dogs in Queensland and any of the other states that have BSL, that are not safe and could be classed as RB. Really both of my dogs could be classed as RB (if they used that stupid 22 point system) when in truth one is just a Bull Arab/Pig Dog. If the person taking the dog is responsible ie: making sure the dog is contained, no escaping, keeping on the good side of the neighbours etc then I don't think they will have any dramas. If the dog escapes and is picked up it is a different story but any dog who looks remotely like an RB runs the same risk. Otherwise having copies of the current BA as well as letter from a Vet stating that the dog is such and such a breed then at least they have something to fall back on.

I agree with the person who asked what the parents were doing, how absolutely silly to not be absolutely aware of exactly were your child is and have an eye on them at all times on Fraser. If you go there you are more than aware of the dingoes and the dangers they can present especially to children or lone people, you should always watch your kids, keep them very close and travel in pairs of adults at the very least. It is just common sense. I doubt they could accurately identify the dingoes who were responsible for the attack from a few witnesses accounts, they are not very distinctive especially if you are not an expert on them. They propbably culled 2 innocent dingoes just for the sake of placating the public when in truth the dingoes should not have been touched and the parents should be fined.

This is offensive. I am anti-BSL but I will not defend what these dogs did to this woman. It is horrible and I can only imagine the pain, suffering and terror she felt during the attack. You took this off track by even mentioning that IMO. This could have been any 4 dogs of any medium/large breed, and as others have pointed out not all PB's are horrible dogs, I have one and she is the sweetest thing you will ever meet. We have no idea about their upbringing though (as already mentioned by PF) - Judge the Deed not the Breed. My deepest sympathies and condolences to the woman's family and the poor people who witnessed the attack. And absolutely these dogs should be euthanised no question about it.

Won the battle but not the war I guess. It is at least something. It will be harded to get without a distributor. The makers of the games will have to find someone else to host/distribute the game now.
-
Fantastic news!!! At least it is not on a mainstream supplier now. This is a win. Maybe we should turn our attentions to some of the other morally abhorent games out there now.

I didn't report it for graphic violence, I said other and gave my reason, sorry I cannot remember exactly what I said but basically that I felt it was wrong to encourage an activity such as dog fighting. I don't have an issue with graphic violence I have an issue with its morality. So would it make a difference with this particular game if it was given an R rating? I dont actually know how they'd do that with apps but I brought up ratings in the other thread so it got me thinking. Might make a difference if it was R Rated and you had to be over 18 to purchase the app. (IE have to use a credit card to purchase it (not a debit credit card) so you either have to be over 18 or you have to ask you parents.)

Odie is gorgeous. Again sorry for your losses. I hope you do not take to heart what others have said. Your reasoning is sound, you needed to protect your other dogs, rehoming Jazz would not have been the right thing to do. Best wishes from me and my girls during this terrible time.

Dog Fight Looms Over Pet Trains Promise
Keira&Phoenix replied to SkySoaringMagpie's topic in In The News
I agree dogs/cats/reasonable sized pets should be allowed on trains so long as they are crated, caged or muzzled/leashed. I can't see the problem with it. In saying that I also understand that in peak hour services it would be very frustrating to try to get dogs in/out of the train and for other passengers who do not want to have doggy fur on their nice work clothes. I guess some restrictions would have to put into place ie: not travelling with pets during peak hour services. What a wally Mr Muldar is. -
Reported. I clicked Other reason and wrote a reason I thought it was inappropriate. I didn't think graphic violence covered it. What idiots honestly. Like we need to encourage people to get into this sort of s@*t

I like the 2nd one I don't like pinky or girly things LOL so I don't really like the others but only for the colouring. All in all they look well made and practical I guess the price would depend on how much your spending on material, how much time you put into it and how much profit you would like. I would guess somewhere between $25 - $40 maybe more for bigger sizes

Pet Insurance - Medibank Private Or Other?
Keira&Phoenix replied to ZaliGirl's topic in General Dog Discussion
Hey, I have my younger girl with Medibank and have for 6 months now, I have only just put my first claim in this week so will get back to you about how the claims go. The only downside to Medibank is they do not cover any alternative therapies ie: acupuncture, chiropractic, physio etc so if these are things you want to have the option of claiming back might be worth a look into Pet Plan as they do cover those things. I take me dogs to a chiropractic vet (not for routine visits but for regular chiro work and because one has HD) and cannot claim anything back My older girl has HD too. Do you do any swimming with your girl?? -
I am assuming today... We wont be going. Phi is looking loads better but want to rest her up for a little bit longer. Should be good for play group when its back and Million Paws.

I was hoping you would find this topic. I believe you have said you will be desexing all pups that are sold, am correct in that? At least that is a first step towards stopping any backyard breeding IMO i think they are gorgeous. Fingers crossed for a succesful insemination and pregnancy. Cant wait for piccies!

So sorry and heartbroken for you after reading what happened. What an absolutely horrific thing to have to go through. I hope you, your OH and children can eventually recover from the shock. It was no ones fault. RIP Odie and Jazz. Run free in peace and make ammends.

Brisbane Rspca Million Paws Walk
Keira&Phoenix replied to Keira&Phoenix's topic in General Dog Discussion
Hey Flick, You just email the link to the fundraising page to your family, friends, collegues, fellow students etc and ask them if they would like to donate, that is all you have to do. So not hard/time consuming at all You can also link it to your facebook page/twitter etc
