Agressive Dog In Brighton Dog Park
Keira&Phoenix replied to toy dog's topic in General Dog Discussion
Firstly, let me say I am so sorry about what you have gone through, that is terrible. I hope you and your dog are ok and that you both recover fully with no permanent scarring (physically or emotionally). Not a good situation and I hope the owners are more careful in future but if their attitude was how you describe it, doubtful. What the woman said about is completely untrue. Check out K9 Pro's facebook page, they are currently rehabilitating/working with the Golden Retriever who was recently involved in an attack on his owners in Sydney(I think). It is an old wives tale. Many a fighting dog has been rehabilitated and placed into new homes with children and other dogs, some have even become therapy dogs (check out the book "The Lost Dogs" by Jim Gorant it is all about the Michael Vick dogs).Lastly, I think you need to report to incident to the council and probably take some photos of your hand. If the same dogs attacks again in that park the council will have a bit of history. And please as Leelaa has said Judge the Deed not the Breed. This is a bad example of the breeds owned by someone irresponsible, don't let it colour your view of other similar breeds -
I never said you called all big dog owners idiots, just that all sizes and breeds of dogs can have idiot owners. We need to concentrate on the problem and instead of banning breeds which just makes them more attractive to the people who want tough, illegal dogs deal with the owners. Make is compulsory to do obedience courses, make it so instead of registration, dog owners have to go through a course and get a license. Regulate owners not dogs. 4 Pitbulls Maul Us Woman To Death is the title of this thread. Pitbulls have the capacity to kill one of my little ones in a second. If 4 little dogs came charging at me, I would be able to defend myself, I've got feet, I can kick and punch them. My dogs do not pose a threat, nor are they intimidating in the slightest, unless you've got a phobia, why should I have to go to obedience so people should be aloud to walk around with intimidating dogs that from my experience have almost killed one of mine? Ahhh ok I see so it is ok for little dogs to be running around hassling people off lead because we can just kick them away??? I doubt the owners would be happy when their little off lead dog ran up to my on lead dog and got bitten. People are allowed to walk around with "intimidating" dogs now. Pitbull's are only 1 of many "intimidating" breeds out there. twist what i'm saying why don't you, i'm out of here, can't be bothered once people start twisting my words!!!!! Best thing you've said all day! I for one will not be bothered by your attitude or anyone else In here for that matter, It gets tiring having to defend your breed constantly from people such as the likes of yourself who Intentions are questionable! And for JoeK I'm not wearing rose coloured glasses, and neither are all the responsible bull breed owners out there. Responsible owners know exactly what their dogs are capable of, and they do their darn hardest not to set them up for failure unlike the rest of them who keep bringing these breeds Into the spotlight for all the wrong reasons. You are targeting the wrong end of the leash Any large powerful breeds In a pack situation such as In this case, with owners who don't give a damn could have yielded the same results, as has already happened before. It only takes one to start them all off Into an attacking frenzy This Is not a ( Pit Bull breed) Isolated only problem Thank you, that is everything I have been trying to get across in my last 20 posts but I am not very good as vocalising and certainly not putting on "paper" what I am trying to get across.

One day I would love for you to explain to me the difference between certain breeds. I've looked at a few threads on DOL (threads that often end in arguments) and have looked at a few things on the net, but I still have questions... (nice, friendly questions ) Haha yes it is a much disputed topic especially between certain people. Always happy to answer questions I am definitely not an expert but I know a fair bit through my research -

Hehe I am eating a pie!! Keira is the older dog One pic is a pic of Keira as a puppy haha. -
I am pretty lucky so far anyone who has met Phoenix and realised what she is haven't seemed frightened or intimidated and have commented on what a pretty girl she is I am sure as she fills out and gets a bit older people may not be so understanding..

Nah pretty sure she won't be coming. She is going to the dentist to have some teeth removed on Saturday so doubt she will be there -

Dju - I have two but only one is suitable to walk in this sort of environment my older dog has DA issues. I think most people will only be walking with one dog unless they have someone else to walk the second. I just received the shirts They are small for their sizes, ie: I tried on the 14 and it is tight (not uncomfortably). So those of you who ordered 10s when you wanted 8s should be fine, I doubt they will swim on you. Kitt my friend may have to bail so I should have a size 12 for you -

Make it compulsory to do obedience courses, make it so instead of registration, dog owners have to go through a course and get a license. Regulate owners not dogs. And then if your dog attacks a human or another animal unprovoked you get charged and your license suspended until further notice. We need to be hard with the people who allow their dogs to do these things.

And with that attitude we will never change your mind so we are wasting our time with you. You have taken one bad experience and now you judge not only an entire breed but a group of breeds. No one has personally insulted you....I see no insults This behaviour might be reflected from your feelings? If you are always on edge when you go out of course they will pick up on it. That is exactly right Dogsrawesome. follow the red quotes!!! And what attitude is that? Because I don't wish to own a dog that could intimidate others? And the personal insults don't have to be directed at me to be there in black and white!!! Now who is being insulting. So what...big dog owners on here could give you a list a mile long about small dogs that have bailed them up, get over it. It is the idiot owners not the breeds or the size of the breeds. Small dog owners cry to high heaven when they get bailed up by larger dogs but those of us with big dogs have to shut up and put up because "little dogs cannot hurt ours" but if our big dogs defended themselves well heaven forbid they would then be declared dangerous. I have two big dogs. My older dog is DA but I am responsible about it I would never take her to a park and let her loose EVER! Stop generalising it is offensive. Idiot owners come with all breeds of all shapes and sizes. So how about you concentrate on ALL idiot owners not just some and stop judging breeds. ETA - I own two large breed dogs, one who is the breed in question and neither intimidate people. People can't stop fawning over Phoenix. No the attitude that all Bull Breeds are bad. Also what intimidates one person doesn't necessarily intimidate another. Some people may be intimidated by your Toy Poodles, maybe they have had a bad experience with one, personally I have had bad experiences with a Toy Poodle owned by my ex OH's parents. Does that mean you will be ditching Toy Poodles??

Thank you. JoeK - I am anti-BSL and a Bull Breed owner (An "Amstaff" and a BullArab type crossbreed) I am well aware of the pre-disposition that some breeds of dogs and many breeds of bullies have to aggression. I am aware of it and I take measures to make sure my now 9 months old Amstaff X has the best chance to be a well socialised ambassador for her breed. It is this acceptance and the resulting training/socilaising that is the difference between a responsible owner and an irresponsible one. You will find that the "Anti-BSL club" is pointing out that it is the irresponsible owners who take no steps to prevent their dog becoming aggressive or worse the people who also mistreat them that cause the aggressive side to become dominant and dangerous not that the dogs do not have the pre-disposition. Many times the irresponsible owners are just ignorant and do not realise the training they need to put in and then don't manage the dogs correctly.(I certinaly was when I got my first dog and she now has DA issues but you know what I acknowledge that, I acknowledge my part in her issues and I am responsible when it comes to her now ie: making sure she cannot escape and not putting her into situations that will compromise her) Look at it this way if we wipe out the pit bulls what breed is next?? How many breeds are wiped off the face of the plant before you will realise BSL is a load of tosh created to make the public feel safe and the politics look good. Maybe when the only dogs allowed are under 10kgs?? Poodiful We will never change everyone's mind I guess. Maybe one day you will own a breed who has a bad reputation and then you will understand the frustration and sadness that it causes when people belittle and demonize not only the breed but in turn your dog.
-
well said Actually that wasn't well said. Not only is it a load of rubbish, but it is also really hard to read the way it is written. FYI Joe Pitbull's are no longer bred for fighting or aggression these days (not by responsible breeders anyways only by the dogmen). Also Amstaff's are Pitbulls many Purebred APBT in the States are dual registered as American Staffordshire Terriers as well. Now that was well said. Thank you Helen. Jake was absolutely gorgeous what a stunner. They certainly have a way of stealing a chunk of your heart.

LMAO sorry Dju I totally got run off my feet and forgot. Do you mind if I pick them up one night during the week when I am on my way home from work? -
THis is exactly what I would have said but I would have said ALL dogs ARE dangerous they all have teeth and great power behind them. FYI Poodiful comparing Pitbulls and Guns doesn't work. Guns were designed and made to injure/kill people. Pitbulls were bred for bull baiting/pit fighting and other things, but they certainly were never bred for human aggression. It is people with your attitude that gives BSL it's fuel.

Guys I have double booked myself I have a course with my trainers on Sunday mornings 8 am - 9 am starting this week, I won't be skipping sooo I need to make alternate arrangements. The walk is only 10 - 15 mins from where I was will be training so I will be there right after. Kitt is it ok if I pick you up at 7 am and drop you off to meet GG with the shirts and stencils?? Then I will go to my course and maybe try to leave a tad early to make it for the walk start time.. -
Seriously? Dear doG These dogs are all sentenced to death whether it is at the pound or at the uni vet hospital they WILL die because of the ignorant people out there breeding for money (puppy farmers, bybers and the plain ignorant). What is it that your find so "heinous" about them being used to teach the vets that will one day be looking about our animals? We have already heard they are treated well and some are even rehomed out of the uni's. Until you can stop the insane influx of homeless companion animals they will continue to be PTS, at least by being a learning tool they are giving some meaning to their deaths. How about you fix the problem of all the homeless dogs/cats etc and then concentrate on this one.

Ok so I just got an email back from the lady on ebay who we bought the shirts off and get this...she has EXPRESS posted them for us...what a legend!! We only paid for regular post but she expressed them today so I should have them Monday I will be leaving glowing feedback for her. She also said for us to enjoy the walk ETA: Dju that thing I had on in Carindale tomorrow has now been postponed so I am pretty much free all day. Wat day were you thinking about going to Elanora park? Maybe you can just give the stencils to me then? -
OMG HE IS HUGEEEEE!!!!!!!! That is crazy haha. He weighs more already than my 3.5 yo BullMastiff X (She is only a small one around 30 kilos although i keep her lean due to severe HD) He is absolutely gorgeous though. Best of luck
-
Haha yeah you have a poodle and really you have all sorts of animals haha.

It is such a shame people stereotype but I don't think it will ever be something you can stop unfortunately. Do what us PB owners do and make your dog an ambassador for the breed even if it is only going to change 1 opinion it is worth it There is a great song about predjudices, it is about Pits but it is a good song. Look it up its called "pitbull blues"

He is possible going through a 2nd/3rd fear period also and that might be aggravating the situation but as Persephone said look into getting reputable, professional help. Many members here can suggest people you should look into. I really hope your boy is ok. Keep us up to date . Also pics are mandatory
