Kroll Dogpark at Redcliffe is quite good, it is a very large enclosure (I mean huge, you can walk to the other end and definitely not hear or see anyone else) so is good if you want the possibility of socialising but also want to be able to go off and play with your dog without being hasseled. I love walking the Wynnum Espy (right near my house) good view and just a nice atmosphere. You need a dog who is ok around lots of distractions ie: kids running, screaming, bikes, scooters, other dogs etc. If you want to go to the Gold Coast there is a dog off leash park and a lake at Mermaid Waters where you can take the dogs for a play and a swim and where it is based is away from main roads etc. It isn't overly busy either and all the dogs I have seen there were well behaved. Love walking the trails at Daisy Hill State Forest, there is an old quarry you can walk to which is full of water like a lake and the dogs can swim there. That is all I can think of right now.

record it! I love hearing funny dog noises!! At my boyfriends house they have a maltese and she absolutely HATES cats... she sits on the window sill and makes this really gutteral but quiet growl and she goes on for about half an hour... the entire time just growling really quietly. its so funny!! I'll have to record max and jenna tonight - jenna makes noises all the time. She is the most vocal dog I have ever come into contact with - yet she's not much of a barker!! When she gets kisses from me, she moans... when she gets pats from me, she moans... when max comes near me, she whines (then gently bites Max's face in a way to say 'no play with ME' and then they go off and play)... when she lies down, she sighs and moans, when she stretches, she moans, when she's playing, she moans, whines and growls... I really don't think there is a time when she DOESN'T make a noise! lol I will simply walk past her and she moans! hahahahaha Haha @ Jenna what a crack up. You will definitely have to catch that! Yeah Keira's play noises are actually scary if you don't know her haha. Phi sometimes will "talk" she is a big sooka though. I'll try and record her tonight to show you guys. There might be a few recordings though because I don't have editing software and she starts and stops all the time! lol haha it happens that way though doesnt it? Max always barks when he wants to play... but I know it as his 'play bark' but people get intimidated cause he stands there, staring at a dog, and just barks at them lol... but he's wagging his tail and (to me) looks very happy... but I always have to pull him away whilst explaining that's his 'play bark' lol And phi is beeeeautiful! Do you mind if I ask (and please, please don't be offended) but how long have you had Phoenix? She is absolutely gorgeous. Do you live in a part of Aus that allows PB? or is she a cross? Haha not offended I have had her almost 7 months now. She is 9 months old in a week. No I don't and she is an Amstaff x - IYKWIM ;) She is gorgeous (even if I do say so myself haha) inside and out she is just sweet, goofy and kooky. Love her to bits. Must say I wuv German Shepherds we have a few that go to our play group and I just love them, gorgeous doggies! Your two are beautiful.

LMAO my girls play like this as well although it is a little bit more rough ie: closer to wrestling and biting each others face. The other night my younger dog hid under my bed and kept popping out to bite my older dogs legs made me laugh. Gotta love dogs! They just bring so much light to your lives.

This is good advice. I know it can be hard to sit down with an OH when things have deteriorated to the point of, as you said in your first post, 'tearing' each other. But there's one thing you still share. You love your dogs. For their sake & only with them in mind, sit down & try to work thro' options and a plan. Posts, so far, have given good ideas. It can help to brainstorm all sorts of options before picking out ones that will work for Plan A. Like, is there any way, you can cohabit without being in each others faces, until you've got thro' your surgery? Yes, I know that might get a big thumbs down. But, as a temporary measure until your health problems are dealt with, it may give you (& the dogs) some time. During that time, you can look around for a potential housemate, to share your present house or another one. Another idea is that some retired people (with secure premises) can be happy to mind dogs during the working day. For the company, without all the costs & responsibilities of ownership. Lad in our family & his wife did something like that for their Newfie while they temporarily had to live in a unit (connected with a job) until they finally were able to move to a house. Also re dog-friendly accommodation, AWL Qld, has a link to finding dog friendly rentals. Gumtree is also a good tool for finding dog friendly rentals, that is how I found my current house and I have two large size dogs Or you can go to this http://www.petfriendlyrentals.com.au/ website and download the search tool which actually highlights houses on realestate.com and domain.com which are pet friendly First step though is working out if your ex is going to move out or if you are.

I can't just stop going to the gym, as I said, waiting for surgery and its vital I keep the fitness. It's not a case of I could just go walking, I have to do the strength training for my health. Unfortunately, I cannot defer a Diploma either. It's a 12mth online cut off. I am more than willing to rent a budget priced property, I'd sleep in a shed if I had to,, but the most budget priced house (to allow dogs) you would find in brissy is around $250pw and there are very few and far between let alone whether they allow dogs. I don't earn enough to be able to afford that. I would love to get someone in to share with me, but again, as I said, I'm not sure ex will leave. I would rather stay miserable myself than have Jessie put to sleep. I am in Brisbane, wish I could help you out but I cannot take in anymore dogs (I am renting and my older dog can be funny). How long before the lease is up?? Maybe a sit down talk with your ex about if he wants to stay in that house or not. If he does maybe he can keep the dogs for a while until you can find somewhere suitable? Otherwise if he isn't staying in the house then you can start looking for a housemate, pref someone who likes dogs but doesn't have any, maybe someone willing to spend a bit of time with the dogs as well? So you don't feel like they are being neglected?

Pet Insurance - Medibank Private Or Other?
Keira&Phoenix replied to ZaliGirl's topic in General Dog Discussion
Nah you have to post everything. I just did it over the Easter period and I had my money back within 10 working days of posting the claim in. Seriously the only issue I had was that one of the vets put the wrong birth date down and they got confused but I called them to see how things were going because I really needed the money back and wanted to make sure there were not any problems and they let me know that had happened and I cleared it up with them over the phone. -

Keira is just a Heinz57 with mostly Bull Mastiff X Ridgie but a few other things Phoenix is an "Amstaff" ;) IYKWIM I wondered about that lol, you had always said she was Amstaff x something...but she looks an awful lot like a "Lab x SBT" that I met a while ago... He was a gorgeous...."lab x SBT" too lol ;) haha ;) ;) Yeah she is an Amstaff to the general population, mind you most people who ask look at me confused when I say Amstaff haha. I have had a few people recognize her for what she is ie: a vet and someone walking by me the other day but so far no one who recognizes it has been worried about her. I don't think you can be with a face like hers. Mind you I can make her do this face which looks evil haha. lol@ IYKWIM. Phi is a lovely girl. Scarlett & Phi play a lot and are two breeds with a bad and rep have never had a drama. The walk would have been great but I think I'd not do so well in a crowd with dogs. Scarlett might take ages to walk 3kms too, if she doesn't get her way she can stop dead and not move for ages (and I mean AGES). Yep two female bull breeds and they are both so sweet. Miss Scarlett likes to mother the little Cavalier pups too, which is adorable! LMAO I can totally see Scarlett just stopping after the first 1km and not moving! -
Can't be bothered responding to everything. It has already been said but Joe if everyone stopped owning Pitbulls they would dissappear and guess what the idiots would choose a different tough breed lets say Dobermans, next thing You know they are in the news mauling animals and people, then they are made a restricted breed, we stop owning them, they all dissappear. ...which breed next??? How many breeds would you like to wipe of the planet before you will understand that the dogs are not the problem the owners are!!! Dobermans and German Shepherds have both been restricted breeds in the past because they like the pitbull is now were perceived as vicious man killers who would snap at any time, BSL stands for bull shit legislation and it does NOT work. Already it is dying in America one county at a time. Owning dogs should be a privledge not a right. People would appreciate it more then.

I never said you called all big dog owners idiots, just that all sizes and breeds of dogs can have idiot owners. We need to concentrate on the problem and instead of banning breeds which just makes them more attractive to the people who want tough, illegal dogs deal with the owners. Make it compulsory to do obedience courses, make it so instead of registration, dog owners have to go through a course and get a license. Regulate owners not dogs. And then if your dog attacks a human or another animal unprovoked you get charged and your license suspended until further notice. We need to be hard with the people who allow their dogs to do these things. Sorry, but I disagree. You are asking ALL dog owners to pay the price for those who are irresponsible and instead of BSL,we end up with all dogs ownership being restricted. and the "black market" extending to all dogs. Education in dog ownership and responsibilities is badly needed now. This is partly because dog and their care are already marginalised here in Aus. Peoples experiences with dogs is limited.Further restrictions on ownership would only be a self perpetuating cycle. The current laws should be enough if they were enforced properly. If thats not working, why would more legislation work. So can you tell me why RB owners are the only ones who have to pay the price for Irresponsible owners? bare In mind Irresponsible owners come attached with many 'other' dog breeds not affected by BSL Another case of I really don't care about RB owners as I don't own one and It doesn't concern me! Exactly. I am sick and tired of owners of other breeds brushing the issue off or coming up with answers like "why should I have to....." (mind you I know there are many people here who have nothing to do with RB breeds who are very against BSL, so please don't take offence if you are one of them ) It is all well and dandy when it isn't affecting you or your dogs right.

Agressive Dog In Brighton Dog Park
Keira&Phoenix replied to toy dog's topic in General Dog Discussion
Oh right! I thought you needed to pull? Lucky I have never been in THAT situation! Would've turned out a disaster! lol So you just lift the legs up higher? I always knew you needed to grab the back legs, I just didn't know what to do once the back legs were in your hands, whether you pull or just hold them there. I saw a show once where I could've sworn I saw people pulling so I assumed thats the way you did it. Thank God I've never had to do it, otherwise I would've hurt the dogs. :S Learn something new everyday right :D At least you do know what to do now in case of an emergency. -
That's easier said than done unless you take out the new owner's emotional investment. ETA: What would the breeder be likely to do with a pup with those problems that the owner would not do? Given that this dog has been sold on the main register I would assume this is a show dog in a show home which complicates matters. If it was a pet home I would most likely offer to let them keep the puppy but only if I felt they would do what was in the dogs best interests no matter what that was. It is my right to ask for the dog back before refunding anything. I have had a pet puppy diagnosed with bad hips. In my case the dog was grossly overweight and had been allowed to race up and down stairs from a very young age. I did give them another puppy but if I was being honest I seriously considered not as there was no history of it and the parents were hips scored. I felt it was at least in part due to owners negligence. Interestingly enough the later dog died of a brain tumour at the age of 9yrs and they said we have checked with the vet and they don't think it is hereditary. I am not God here, all I can do is health test and everything else is out of my control. The OP actually mentioned earlier the breeder kept the pup on main register to use as an alternate stud dog. See page 1

Currently we are asking an entire breed to pay the price for irresponsible owners. How is that fair?? Why should innocent dogs be punished because of PEOPLE! Do you know that over 3 Million Pitbulls are euthanised each year in America alone, that's horrendous. Dogs cannot control who they are owned by. Humans need to start taking responsibility for our screw ups and stop laying the blame on innocent animals.

Diane Jessup actually has over 60 working titles (inc SchH and ring sports), has trained working guard and police dogs, and is an expert witness on behalf of police k9 units. I've enjoyed your latest incarnation the most, entertaining at times, but don't push your luck. The story behind this thread illustrates why we ought to take dogs seriously. I speak on social aggression Aidan2 and someone saying what I say is wrong dropping Diane Jessup name. I don't knowing her standing on the social aggression but I know the Dr Helmut Raiser standing and work on his principal for many years and have attending many of his seminar and training schooling. If the Diane Jessup has different value on the social aggression good luck to her, I go with how Raiser teaches working drive and denonstrate on the field for your eyes to see ok? There is plenty of theory on the dog and plenty of experts oppose each view what is right and wrong toss a coin maybe, but what I writing is on my opinion from the leash in my hand, is not rewriting of someone idea I am thinking sounds good to me. I working on aggression most of my life and reading some work from aggression experts and thinking I am knowing 20 dogs this method not working for the psycho on this dogs, so if this expert I may disagree is my right for opinion yes? Joe Having a different opinion on how one trains their dogs Is one thing, but belittling another fellow trainer on a public forum Is another, one whom I might add has a hell of a lot more experience In the APBT than you ever will... You've certainly lost my respect and I won't be reading any more from you And lastly........ this here Is absolute rubbish! I don't know which anti BSL people you're talking about, but that Is clearly not the sentiments here! Lo Pan Is right: The anti BSL clubs cannot controlling the distribution of this animals into the hands of the bad owners in the black market, hows opening the law to allowing Pitbull freely going prevent the bad owners getting them? Joe Because Joe part of the attraction for macho idiot owners is the fact that these dogs are illegal. Also the councils and government will be able to better regulate if the dogs are legal and no longer being sold on "the black market".

Bring him. Phoenix will quickly change his mind about bull breeds. She is so sweet and adorable to boot No one can resist a Pittie smile :p see below hehe -
Thank you. JoeK - I am anti-BSL and a Bull Breed owner (An "Amstaff" and a BullArab type crossbreed) I am well aware of the pre-disposition that some breeds of dogs and many breeds of bullies have to aggression. I am aware of it and I take measures to make sure my now 9 months old Amstaff X has the best chance to be a well socialised ambassador for her breed. It is this acceptance and the resulting training/socilaising that is the difference between a responsible owner and an irresponsible one. You will find that the "Anti-BSL club" is pointing out that it is the irresponsible owners who take no steps to prevent their dog becoming aggressive or worse the people who also mistreat them that cause the aggressive side to become dominant and dangerous not that the dogs do not have the pre-disposition. Many times the irresponsible owners are just ignorant and do not realise the training they need to put in and then don't manage the dogs correctly.(I certinaly was when I got my first dog and she now has DA issues but you know what I acknowledge that, I acknowledge my part in her issues and I am responsible when it comes to her now ie: making sure she cannot escape and not putting her into situations that will compromise her) Look at it this way if we wipe out the pit bulls what breed is next?? How many breeds are wiped off the face of the plant before you will realise BSL is a load of tosh created to make the public feel safe and the politics look good. Maybe when the only dogs allowed are under 10kgs?? Poodiful We will never change everyone's mind I guess. Maybe one day you will own a breed who has a bad reputation and then you will understand the frustration and sadness that it causes when people belittle and demonize not only the breed but in turn your dog. Yes, I understanding the anti-BSL club intention is not the problem I see, is the problem the anti BSL club refusing to understanding why dogs having the potential in the genes for aggression is not a good thing in the community because dealing with aggressive dog for the responsible ownership and keeping thing safe is job of dedication that many pet owners cannot do properly so they say if they getting rid of dogs like this then is something dogs owners not having to deal with is a better thing for the pet. Is very difficult to make dog aggressive to attack people if they dont having aggression in the genes, is why they dont using Labrador as defense dog in the police and use him for sniffing. Is the same reason they dont using high drive German Shepherd at the airport for sniffing around the people becuase the wrong trigger on this dogs he can bite people where the Labrador wont do this so easily and safer breed around the public. The deed not the breed thing for me is wearing thin becuase is stupid saying this and everyone know some breed is more likey to have aggression in his genes than others except the anti BSL club is the main grouping who not recoginise this and becuase they dont recognising is one reason my opnion is they not taken seriously on their argument. Joe You are still missing the point. We completely understand the breed pre-disposition to aggression, and we take steps to try to counteract that. It is the irresponsible owners who do not know or do not care and you will find most of them couldn't give a flying rats bottom about BSL because they just think they are tougher having an outlawed dog. So you would wipe a particular breed of dog off the face of the planet because of human stupidity? Humans already do enough damaged to this planet, I think we should leave the dogs alone. Deal with the idiots on the other end of the leash. Councils need to take a harsher approach to the irresponsible owners. They also need to implement a licensing system for owners and cut out BYByers and Puppy farmers so that it is harder to get a dog without impressing a breeder. I know this system is not fool proof but I think it would make a difference.
