Wow that is fantastic they have done something about it. Did you end up putting the letter in the mail box? Is that the reason for the sudden fencing of the property?

Everytime I read the word "pitbull" in one of these stories my heart just sinks and then I get mad because who identified the dogs? I bet it was the people who got bitten and they would have no clue on earth. Like someone just said anything with a staffy shaped head is now called a pitbull when in reality they could be any Stafford breed, Mastiff cross breed, Bull Arab etc etc or just any unknown mix of breeds who has a big head. People should keep their mouths shut and just say we got bitten by a medium sized, brown dog....not so hard is it. I once had someone who wanted to breed Pitbulls come up and ask me if my female pitbull was desexed.....my dog is a Bullmastiff X Ridgie and looks nothing like a pitbull.

RIP Sweet Oscar boy. Run free over the Rainbow Bridge. You made his last days so wonderful, I can only wish that I get the opportunity to give my girls last days like his because every dog deserves that.

Only suggested GE as I have had a GE Card for years, made multiple purchases on it and I have never had any trouble with them at all. So long as you budget and aim to pay off in the interest free period you are fine.

How on earth anyone could live in that is beyond me, it makes me want to throw up just looking at it. I couldn't live like that. Those poor animals, so glad they have now been removed from that disgusting mess. How could the Council and RSPCA let that go for so long?? How did the owner allow that to go for so long? As someone else said it must have been a decent house at one stage. It has an indoor pool, a bar etc. Humans never fail to surprise me in the worst ways possible.

Yeah my girls go a bit silly if I sit or lay on the floor, although not as much as before as I do it regularly because my of where my computer is (next to my tv on the tv cabinet). But I have noticed that when I am upset ie: I sat on the floor once and had a bit of a cry (over something silly but you know we all have to cry sometime LOL) and both of them were very calm and just came up for cuddles rather than the usual jump all over Mummy routine.

This is so sad. Poor puppy poor lady. Her best option would be to contact various vets and find out which offers the option of the GE CareCredit card, it is interest free for over certain amounts. At least this way the dog can be desexed and have the hernias corrected and any other general care that it may require as soon as possible and she can pay it back overtime. She can even apply for the card online and see if she will get approved and for how much and then just find a vet that will accept it. Hope everything turns out well for the puppy.

The Future For All Things Dog
Keira&Phoenix replied to pawsaroundoz's topic in General Dog Discussion
Well not to worry as I hear soon, to own pet will require council approval. To get approval you first have to take the Government mandated Pet Owners Class, Test and Investigation, which is 3 sessions a week for 12 weeks, conducted by the Greens party, the RSPCA and the Australian Association of Psychiatrist at a cost of $700.00. No refunds either. I hear only 10% of the people will be deemed psychologically fit, financially capable, child free and carbon neutral enough to own a pet. I hope you make the cut. I wasn't talking about laws. I was talking about a shift from the idea that getting a dog is standard practice - as is getting bored with that dog, and leaving it alone, unexercised in the backyard for the rest of its life. From what I see, doing exactly that is entirely acceptable and very common in most parts of Australia. In my subsurb, dogs who have their needs met (physical, mental emotional) are considered to be "spoiled". Friends of ours who are childless told us that we are the only could they've ever known to have kids and still have dogs being part of the family! that's pretty sad. And to me it means that there are many people out there with dogs, who shouldn't have dogs. It is very sad and it makes me mad when people buy dogs when they have no intention of ever treating it properly. On Sunday I was catching up with a friend and she was telling me about how a friend of ours (I don't talk to much) lets call them Terry and Karen who have 2 children under the age of 3 has just purchased a Fila Brasileiro which is not only a very large breed of dog it is also a RB. Like Staffords etc that breed of dogs needs serious socialization and training and an experienced handler. All of these things they will not do. Not to mention they are always complaining about how they don't have any money etc. When my friend asked Terry what he would do if the dog needed expensive vet treatment, well you can guess the answer. Obviously this also means they can't afford decent food, who knows if the dog will be vaccinated, desexed, microchipped, flea treated, heart wormed treated etc but I doubt it and I know it won't get walked/exercised at all. That dog is now an accident waiting to happen sadly. I am considering getting my friend to pass on a message to say if anything happens and they need help with the dog to contact me but doubt that they would anyways, can't hurt though. Still makes me steam thinking about it. -
Staffy - Looking For Advice (help)
Keira&Phoenix replied to Gammalite's topic in General Dog Discussion
So sorry to hear about the situation you are in Mike. Where did you get Missy from? Were you made aware of her behavioural issues? If she came from a rescue they should have notified you that she was not good with other dogs/cats etc and probably should not have homed her to a household with another dog. If you are going to persevere you need to get professional help and right away to try and lessen the impact on Astro and yourseld, friends and family. Sometimes rehoming is the best option for both the dogs and yourself but I think that is a decision that can be only made by you. If you feel that her behavior is going to seriously affect Astro's health, wellbeing and quality of life (and your own) then I think it is something you should seriously consider. If you do decide to rehome it really needs to be in a single animal household with experienced and responsible owners (who know the limitations of the dog ie: not to take to dog parks or let off leash in public) and that is something you have to take into consideration as well. Seems like a hard situation to be in but I think only you can make the right decision for your "family". Best of luck I hope it all works out whichever way you go. -

Vent About Kids Walking Dogs
Keira&Phoenix replied to mumtoshelley's topic in General Dog Discussion
Yeah I dislike seeing unsupervised kids walking dogs. I have a very reactive dog and I was walking her once (onlead along a street) when I came across a young boy of around 11 with a Staffy riding his scooter! I yelled out to him to keep his dog on the other side of the road (at this stage Keira had already started reacting to the other dog) and for some unkown reason he came closer and walked within a couple metres of me all while Keira is carrying on. I couldn't fathom why he wpuld bring his dog closer to her in that state and I was angry as he had completely ignored me. Luckily his dog didn't react to Keira and only pulled towards us a bit but he should never have been walking that dog while riding a scooter as if his dog had of reacted and pulled away from him who knows what would have happened. MUmtoshelley i think retraining to sit and wait when she sees a dog is best. -
Need Help Dog Lose On The Street
Keira&Phoenix replied to Atanquin's topic in General Dog Discussion
As already suggested get the rangers # don't go to your local council office if you want to go somewhere go to the local pound where the rangers operate out of and speak to someone there. It is not illegal to take a dog wandering on the street and drop it at the pound or rspca. IF this was me I would be taking it to the pound or RSPCA as it will cost her $$$ to get the dog back out again maybe a few times of having to pay money to get her dog back and she will stop letting it wander. -
Does Anyone Need Pll Testing Done?
Keira&Phoenix replied to periannath's topic in General Dog Discussion
Primary Lens Luxation? I believe I could be wrong though -
I agree. Working with alternative methods myself made me realise how many black sheep are out there who just try to sell their products, no matter what. I had lots of clients who also spend a huge amount of money for conventional methods with no return ;) Yeah I understand what you mean. I wouldn't just go to anyone willy nilly for that very reason. She came with recommendations though :D

So Annoyed About An Ad I Just Read :(
Keira&Phoenix replied to Dogsrawesome's topic in General Dog Discussion
I can see why Dogs would be concerned/annoyed by this ad but I don't think it is a police or council matter especially as the person has not acquired a dog and probably won't. Dogs I have to say you seem to find these sorts of ads a lot. I don't know where you are looking (Gumtree, Trading Post?) but advise you stop if you are always finding so many ads that annoy you. -
Friend Is Determined On Getting A Puppy That Is For Free
Keira&Phoenix replied to haylz27's topic in General Dog Discussion
Maybe find some rescue puppies and show her their profiles/pictures give her the information that has been given above re: rescue dog already being desexed, vaccinated, micropchipped were a free byb puppy is likely not to be etc etc and maybe she will fall in love with one and decide to go in that direction. -
Hi everyone Sorry if this is not the right place for this. If not Mods please move A few people I know are setting up a stall at the Ipswich Showground Markets this Sunday until Midday. They will be having a bake sale with all profits going to AWL Qld and will also be accepting donations of food, blankets, toys, kitty litter etc And will then be dropping all donations/profits to the AWL the following weekend at the AWL event. So if your in the area or would like to help out with donations or to grab some yummy baked goods then drop into the Markets and look out for the stall

Keira&Phoenix replied to Chicken's topic in General Dog Discussion
Oh no Hope he comes home soon. I am sure you or someone already has but call local pounds, shelters and try to do a flyer drop as soon as possible if he isn't home shortly. The more you get it our there the more likely it is he will get home sooner. Wish I was closer and could help. Good luck let us know how you go. -
It is hard to explain MEH. Best way I can describe it is that she "communicates" with the dogs body/energy. Ie: She closed her eyes and sat with Keira and one at a time I handed her something I had been feeding her and she would tell me yes or no based on if she felt a negative or positive reaction to it. It is definitely not traditional but that is what makes her so special she is both logical and intuitive. She is qualified vet and chiropractor and is not against the use of traditional practice and medicine but also is an advocate of natural. She single handedly saved a friend's dog's life a Cav who was diagnosed with SM and was due to be PTS as he had become unresponsive and they took him there as a last chance and within 30 mins she had him back to normal and he has been fine since. Obviously this method is not for everyone but she comes highly recommended by many people in my doggy circle, if what she has recommended helps Keira than fantastic if it doesn't and we need to do tests then that is fine also. She is also very friendly and caring definitely one of the best vets I have dealt with along with Animal Options. Thanks Tomas!

Ok Big update! We saw the vet in Maleny yesterday and wow it was a total brain overload and interesting. Firstly she checked Keira's tolerance to the foods I have been feeding her and basically she is unable to eat most of it (including her favourite treat shhhh don't tell her) outside of the tuna and the egg. So we have rehashed her entire diet and come up with e plan her new diet is now 90 grams of protein per day in the form of - Tuna, Sardines, Egg (Cooked), Chicken or Turkey 2 cups of Cooked Pumpkin, Celery, Zucchini, Carrot and Sweet Potato with 2 - 3 table spoons of Basmati rice I can also use Royal Canin - Whtiting and Tapioca dry food as treats or if I haven't had a chance to cook up some veggies/rice for her that day. She also wants me to give her more bones ie: chicken/turkey legs so she gets meat and bones and a full lamb (she isn't allowed beef anymore) leg bone to help increase her calcium intake. This will then be supplemented by several Vitamins and minerals (I have a form to order them but not on me so not sure which ones but she was deficient in Zinc and Calcium and a little in Magnesium/Selenium) and a Pro-Biotic. As well as a teaspoon of Apple Cidar Vinegar with each meal for some acidity. Basically we talked about the fact that it is possible she has had a bug in her digestive system for a while and that when she was given antibiotics for her skin in November they actually attacked good bacteria and that is why she got Pancreatitis and she belives she probably still has said bug hence she has not put on any weight and is losing weight. She also thinks the skin issues are more to do with her gut then an allergy. We are hoping the new diet will help in the next 3 - 4 weeks and we will see improvement. If not I am up for blood and faecal testing of around $500 bucks to see what we can do. She also did some chiropratic work. Apparently their tails connect to something inside the body and it was twisted actually it was pretty funny she made Keira burp like 3 times just by twisting her tail to fix it. She also said that the way Keira holds herself with her back arched because of her hips is actually pulling on her internal organs, she did a bit of work to fix that. It also makes Keira's spine much more prominent, she has given me some exercises to do to try to get that straighter. She also said she has no muscles or strength in her back legs the fact that she can stand let alone walk is a miracle so prior mentioned exercises are also to help strengthen and build muscles in her back legs. She is also favouring her left leg which is to be expected but it is putting stress on her right hock. She is looking into getting me a leg brace from the US so we can start using that during long periods on her feet (which isn't often) and for walks etc to try and get her walking more correctly as the way she walks is causing her more damage (to her hips, knees and hocks). She is on short walks up gradual inclines to help build muscle as well. So lots to do over the next few weeks and hopefully I will see some improvement and very expensive tests are not necessary. Bit of wait and see at the moment. Hoping for the best, I do feel better about everything now a bit more positive so that is a good sign Thank you everyone for your advice and well wishes. Hopefully I will be posting new chunkier pics of Keira in the very near future.
