They were both great and I love your dogs. In the second one, see the Dally in the window, he wanted to come and play on the boxes too. Very cute.

Have Judges Become Too Pedantic?
PAX replied to Tapferhund's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
I was once told that my pants legs made noises while I was heeling and that it could of been a double signal. He then asked me to tuck my pants into my socks, bit hard as I was wearing tennis socks. It was never mentioned again but these things stay with you. I was pissed off as I bought these new pants just for the trial. -

Have Judges Become Too Pedantic?
PAX replied to Tapferhund's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
My first Novice Pass (well what I thought was a pass after many failures in the stays) I was dumbfounded when the judge told me I had failed because my dog had shifted from the spinx position onto his hip as I left him and she had seen daylight...........WTF. Every one that watched said they saw no daylight and the rule book says 'not more 50% of the body moves', his brisket and front never moved. The judge said it was just badluck (yeah right) and something I couldn't train for. It annoyed me because if he had been a long haired dog he would of got away with it. I think it was over the top judging and it was before the CCD, not at all encouraging. I have also seen high level triallers in Novice with a young dog get away with and win the ring with some NQing behaviour. What can you do? If you complain you just look bad so I just black list the judge, I have only black listed two or maybe three. -
Obedience Trialling - Question On Stays
PAX replied to KismetKat's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
When you do stays in trials you are NOT to move at all. Some judges will even tell you that if a bee lands on you do not move. At each trail (in the lower levels) the judge will usually tell you what they expect but the general idea is, however you are when you turn around to face your dog is how you must stay for the duration of the stays. I have been is group stays where people have been clearing their throats and making all sorts of noises that I would of pinged if I was the judge. Every judge is different but in general they don't want to see or hear anything that could of been trained to be a second siganl. The great thing about Open stays is you can do what you like when out of sight. -
I think you should train a limp, acting like your drunk and what ever you can think of. If you use reward based training all these things are fun for the dog. This is one of things that we learnt at the Sue Hogben Seminar.
-
At the Sue H camp she showed us lots of stuff on how she trains scent work. Ness, you will have to ask her, it was excellent and I have started doing with my pup. In WA they don't use mats and she doesn't tie down. Some people think it teaches the dog to test for loose articles instead of using their nose.

So far we are all being civil.

I try not to use any physical or verbal corrections. Sometimes I use verbal but it is more of my bad habit than good training I believe. The dogs are so heavily rewarded they really try to please you all the time. I was never going to correct my pup until one day she sprung on to the kitchen bench, I put her back on the ground and she did it again and again. The third time she got a Ah Ah and a tap on the nose but that is only physical correction so far. Probably if I was a better trainer I could of used a better method but I can live with it and it hasn't seemed to hurt her and she stays off the benches.

Can I get back to you in a couple of years. I have gone positive, well as positive as you can be IMO with my new pup and so far I am very happy she is only ten months old. She is a Koolie, and I believe they are pretty easy to get along with.

You know now so the training has taught you something.

Barney Hates The Lite N Easy Man....
PAX replied to BarneyMacRosie's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
Barney is trying to tell you that diets are evil. He loves you just the way you are. -
Erin, I hope this works out for you, if you go somewhere else sit in and watch a class before you pay the money. There are lots of different ways to train a dog and lots of different people to train with, you will find a method you are happy with. Good luck.

If some one says that to me I think they compete in Obedience.
-
I agree with Arby, that is what our grandparents fed dogs and they live until they were in their late teens.
-
Dogs only do what works so you need to look at whats in it for the dog. What does the dog get out of jumping? When you work that out you will be able to remove the part that is rewarding to the dog and change the habit.

Hot Spots - Can You Treat With Tea Tree Oil Or Lotion?
PAX replied to Perry's Mum's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
Perry's mum, He needs to use something to dry it out so I would not use tree-oil. . I like the sound of Rosepetals treatment :D , I have heard Super models use it as an eye cream go figure. -
Yes I want your cooking but I want deserts, those famous polish pancakes that you made flames daddy. You better bring your favourite frypan.
