  1. Blacklabrador, Great Post.
  2. I have a dog that is very noiise sensitive, unlike your dog, mine tries to run from the noise. What I have done is work really hard on her drive so I can use that to keep her attention on the ball/toy instead of the scary noise. Her biggest noise phobia was the sound of my OH's boat motor being trimmed. It got so bad that as soon as she heard the boat she would freak, all I could do was put her in a crate until she settled which sometimes took forever. Then I changed to as soon as I heard OH driving back to the house, I would get her out the front and play ball, away from the boat but so she could see it. Gradually we got closer and closer to the boat (over a few weeks) and now she only has a slight reaction but when she hears the boat she searches for her ball, much better than before.
  3. I agree, With my dog I would do very similar to Ptolomy, keep him really fresh and excited to be out working, I like to get him out and go straight in. My trialling friend has a dog that is very full on and she needs to have her out a lot before the trial or at least crated ringside otherwise she is just feral and excited. Just work out what your dog needs and if she is better off really fresh or not. In NSW we are often unable to park anywhere near the ring pre-trial, the only option is to lug crates, gazebos and whatever else we need , I normally lug everything like a pack horse.
  4. Chloebear, I answered you in your Puppy training topic.
  5. I forgot to say, use a flat normal fixed collar, no chain.
  6. Chloebear, I would attach a short light lead to your pups collar and let her drag it around until she is used to it. Of course only do this when you are home to supervise her but don't baby her, just make it a non event and she will soon get used to it. I would have the light lead approx 600 cms. When she can cope with this without reacting I would tie your puppy up to something solid, just for a couple of minutes until she settles then release her. When she is comfortabel doing this it will be time to take her for an onlead walk. If you are consistant she should be walking onlead in around a week if not sooner.
  7. What if you come home one day and she has eaten the lounge or your bed. Or worse something that could hurt her. It happens, there has been lots of ripped up lounges posted on DOL.
  8. I would have her locked up when you're not home, a crate or a dog run. I would never, ever leave my dogs in the house alone, I don't know if they would eat anything but I wouldn't risk it. Plastic milk bottles and soft drinks bottles make good toys for a change. Good Luck.
  9. You could try a different food that does not cruble eg, cooked sausages. Only give her little bits so she can eat it quickly without having to check for dropped bits on the ground.
  10. Yes but you are smarter then Ness, my Dobe is smarter than me.
  11. I would do the BJ with my Dobe, only because I don't think she will ever get to UD (may never get a CDX title) and she does the BJ easily and correctly, she seems to enjoy the big jump. I am teaching her siganls, if only we could do heeling for more than ten seconds. I would never do it with a new dog and I wont be teaching it to my pup.
  12. Hi there, not sure about Flyball but my dog knows the difference between fun retrieves (like a feral) and formal DB work. The only time she offers a sit and hold is with the DB.
  13. I love it. Is there anyway you can get the dog trailer out of the photo??
  14. MrsD, That is supposed to be great, lots of people stay there when they trial in Coffs.
  15. The Tahitian Motel lets you stay with dogs, the owners trial so are happy to have trialling dogs stay there, it is oppisite Park Beach in Coffs Harbour, very easy to find. http://www.about-australia.com/travel-guid...day-apartments/
  16. It wont hurt her to give her an allwormer, and it will save you worrying.
  17. Klattsy, I know it's frustrating when pups wee on mats and furnishing, but it is a really a good thing. Your pup doesn't want urine to splash on her legs so she is really a clean little naughty girl. Limit access to bedrooms and carpeted areas until she is more reliable. She will not be so keen to wee on hard surfaces. Good Luck
  18. I use advantix only and my dogs very rarely get ticks, I do check them everyday still. I would suggest you put Advantix on three days before coming to Coffs Harbour as we have lots of ticks too.
  19. Hi Tassie, I have been there before but not to Mary Ray. I had a cabin last time and they are just fantastic, so well set up. I had a big fat disgusting Cane Toad sit on our veranda there, I had to get Tony to come and get it........ewww. Are you there for the whole week? I can't wait.
