Jarrah looks so happy (he is always happy) and the photos are great, you will have to get hard copies MrsD ready for your brag bag. Remember it's Mothers day this weekend.
-
No but I will try to do some this weekend when I have a spare person to do it. Myszka has been asking me to.

Ok thanks Kavik, I was curious as I have taught my girl similar but with Obedience in mind so I stay at the start.
-
Hi Kavik, I was wondering why you ran out there with him? How long did that take you to train?

How Do I Get My Dog To Sit Straight?
PAX replied to marica's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
Another POV, if you always feed in front she is going to want to come to where the reinforcement/food is. Make sure you only deliver the food in the correct position, take the food to where the dog should be, beside your left leg. Don't let the dog gravitate towards the food. Always keep your shoulders over your feet so you upper body is straight and give a high reward rate to the dog in the 'heel' position. -

Koolies On 'talk To The Animals'

Norm's Coolies. -
If your dog has drive, I would train distance on to a toy. I think when you train distance that really helps your dogs anxiety for the groups and helps with self control and focus. If they are focused on you they will not be so worried by the other dogs. I get my whimpy (but lots of drive) girl to hold a stay the whole length of a Football field, if she breaks, no problem we just go back to the original spot and start again. It just means she has to wait longer to get what she wants, the toy. Also in the company of other unknown dogs, I constantly reward her. This way she thinks groups of unknown dogs have high value as she gets very heavily rewarded for sitting amongst them. This can be hard to find a group of willing people but it's worth the effort. I hate group stays.

My Koolie bitch does this but she is nervous and quite timid. I tell her to 'get it' and then I go and help her get it. I think it makes her fell brave that I am backing her up and I feel like she gets a look of satisfaction that she got to tell off the evil rock or what ever it was. She did it when our musical, dancing Santa took up position in the entry over Xmas. She would never tell off a person or dog as she is not very brave. I also wonder/know their sight is different to ours so the big rock in the distance could of looked quite evil to her eyes. Anyway she is getting more confident every week.

Qualifications To Teach At A Dog Obedience Club
PAX replied to JulesP's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
I am a Dogs NSW instructor, I dont really think the course taught me much but I'm gald I did it. At my club we do not encourage handling other peoples dogs, for one it could make you look bad or it can make the handler look bad. We are there to help the handler train the dog. I will often use a puppy in the class if I feel the owner is OK with it but anything else I use one of my own dogs. Anything hard we refer to a Pro trainer as we are there for general dog training, manners and no more. -
Peeing in the wrong place is a sign of dominance. Playing tug teaches aggression.
-
Stress can also compromise the immunity so make your doggy stress free. Raz, Puppy yoga and massage work well, so does playing your puppy music, make sure it is the sort of music your dog likes though or you could add to the stress. You need to let your dog do what ever it likes including destroying the garden and eating the furniture, these are all good for canine stress relief.

Yay go Ness.

If it's what I think it is she is probably out celebrating.

Keep encouraging him to go in the area you want him too. He is just a baby and some pups take longer than others, he will get it eventually.

My version and what I know of a restrained recall is as follows. Have someone hold your dog, run away and call your dog and act excited, when your dog is bucking and straining to get to you, have the person let him/her go. You want to make this a very high value reward. So work out what floats your dogs boat and offer that as the reward. That could be for you to run more so your dog can chase you, scrumptious treat or game like tug, also distance can be an added reward by doing the recall the whole length of a football field or park.

Qashmir, Was that for the 6 month injection?
-
I think you need to up the rewards for being with you. There must be a reason why he wants to go there, something that is more rewarding to him then doing as you ask. Control the reward, control the dog.

Does anyone know the price for a Suprelorin Implant/injecton for a twelve month old Goldie? Just curious. :D
