  1. rustredbc, do you have a herding school near you? You might get something out of it even if you don't plan on herding. You will get to see BC's doing what they are best at and the way they are handled and trained, you might even get hooked on herding. Herding dogs need to be well behaved, the most well behaved, so I'm sure it would be of help to you and your dog. I'm sure some of the Doler's could tell you where the nearest herding workshops are to your location.
  2. Seeing as you're just playing while she's injured why not use a metal article like a spoon or something that is less desirable to chew.
  3. MrsD. don't lie as I know you could fit one more in. BTW I have a stunning rescue BC boy here that needs a forever home. He is not great with unknown dogs but adores my 4 1/2 month old BC girl pup, so he needs to go to a dog savvy owner. I have no problems with him but I can see how a non doggy person might. He is great in the kennels and doesn't bark, loves to hang around his human in the paddock walks although he adores a big BC run. He has great manners and loves to play, he is very sexy with a stunning big BC coat, he also loves being groomed and hydrobathed. OMG Thread highjack. So it's two boys that need great homes. This BC boy knows lots of stuff already, spin, sit, drop, fetch the squeaky ball. Did I mention he is only two years old and his name is Oscar?? Sorry Westie Lover, I'm being bad. ;)
  4. I don't understand why you say that? You own the best breed of dog and a dog that is bred to work away from the handler. There are heaps of ways to train your problem, I think you need to find your dogs biggest motivater and build on that. Maybe you are lumping what you should be training???? Find a good trainer (someone you admire) to help you.
  5. What kind of puppy? Sorry to go OT. A BC puppy, she has some photos that Ruthless took posted in the photo section, her name is Rhythm.
  6. OMG she is sooo cute. We need more photos. My dog Chill has the best kick back stands even if it's me that says so. Lots of other people say so too. I have a new puppy as well, and I cannot lure the KB stand yet, although she is only 14 weeks and not 9 months as Chill was when she was taught the KB stand, so I'm trying not to worry. I am mainly concentrating on free shaping with the new puppy, she is not so great on food yet so we are just playing and trying to teach what we can on toys. I guess a Mal puppy would have the appetite of a horse.......lucky you.
  7. I must of removed it and deleted. I'm sure there would be others on Youtube. Where are the new puppy pics?????
  8. I had it on Youtube how I taught Chill, well actually Sue Hogben taught her and I just followed on. I'll see if I can find it.
  9. I couldn't imagine giving a 14 week old pup hard leash corrections, I totaly agree with Pers' in that your pup is anxious, you need to see a good Pro Trainer. I have a pup the same age and I couldn't imagine doing and experiencing what you are. I think you need to look at how you are trainng him and if it is working, by your post it is clearly not working so you are stuffing up, not the puppy. Dogs that are not in the standard box make us better trainers.
  10. I agree, treat a dog like a dog and they will treat you you like a human. Hudson is most likely being overprotective as he feels he has to be the leader, take the pressure off him and show him who the leaders are.
  11. It is good experience to have to wait but you can always put a note in with your entry and most trail secretaries try to accommodate everyone. IMO, waiting from 8am until 11.30 is nothing. ETA to change yo to you.
  12. I should say only one of my dogs has crap stays and she is very weak nerved so I cut her way too much slack. I hate stays more than she does though so that does not help. When I really need her to stay I will fix our problem. ETA for Ness, I have a solid stay at home, but put her with strange dogs and\or strange people and we have no stay or not a reliable one. I am so happy with all her other work that I realise I am to leniant on stays, plus they are so boring to train and my dogs know my feelings, I am trying to be 'stay' tougher.
  13. I use nothing or sometimes wait, I expect my dogs to hold position until the next signal from me. My dogs have crap stays though so don't listen to me. I have trained the other way with Stay and Wait and my dog was still woeful on stay, I think because I make it so rewarding to come to me, my dogs obviously know.
  14. Keep training sessions short and fun so your dog wants to do more, always quit while you're ahead.. If you wanted to train your dog to lag, how would you teach it? Might give you some clues as to why it's happening.
  15. Why would you want to??? If my dog is worried, scared, threatened, I want to see the signals, I don't understand your question.
  16. Yes, you write Novice agilty or NA and guess your dogs height. Add a note to request your dog be measured beforethe trial and don't stess, it's a common request.
  17. Nominate what height you think your dog will run at and make a note to the trail secretary that Kaos needs a height card when you send in your entries.
  18. I feed raw and have had the same problem, I use heaps of treats in training and didn't want to load my dogs up with rubbish. I cook up all the offal for training treats, luckily (or maybe not) my dogs dislike raw offal but are crazy for it cooked. I also search Woolies and Coles for the reduced meat to cook up. I also make a tuna bake A 410 tin of tune or salmon Some chopped parsley Four eggs Enough flour to bind it to a cake mix consistency. You can use any type of flour You can add garlic or grated carrot, whatever you like. I add some parmesan cheese, freshly grated. Pour mixture into a square cake tin or similar and bake slowly for an hour, you want to cook the crap out of it so it's rubbery. Let cool and cut into treats the size you like. I usually have a big cook up once a fortnight then cut up and freeze it all into containers that are easy to pull out when needed. ice into training sized treats.
  19. I wear Asics (sp?) touch footy joggers and love them. the sole is covered n rubber spikes. I am foot fussy and was worried about buying shoes from OS :D I bought mine at a Sportsco store. I decided to buy them after I took three nose dives in a row on course.
  20. Look in the ANKC agility rule book, all the correct sizes are written in it.
  21. Do you know any more about him? Where did he come from and why is he up for adoption? Mals aren't common or popular, he must have a story that might help him be rehomed .
  22. I'm sure the rule book says one word in English and I believe one syllable. I use 'touch' as do all of my training mates, I have bad memories of 'heel' and believe I transfer the negativity to my dogs so I use a totally new word. I use close as the find heel position and touch as the heeling position.
