  1. You should ring Luci Ellem at Austral,0419488680.
  2. I have 2 crates, just worried about setting it all up while watching 2 dogs. are there free runs to leave them in while getting organised? I know they will be very excited and might be hard to manage with all the gear as well, thats what i'm worried about. :) thanks for that. Apparently it will be freezing there this time of year! Get busy crate training, there will be people to help you for sure. Email Ann if you have concerns
  3. All training requires you to watch the dog... A scat mat?
  4. Camp tailwaggers is awesome, heaps of doggy space, you will have a ball. i'm sure you will be able to borrow a crate, Anne always goes beyond and above to help Campers settle in. you will have a ball, dont stress. It is always set up up to be a perfect dog holiday:)
  5. I think if you have chronic bench surfers and are not prepared or happy to use a management plan, the best alternative choice would be be scat mats. Using an e collar relys on management, you need to be watching, my reason for not agreeing with it.
  6. Also sorry to stay OT! I was managing this behavior, no food on the benches when I went out! Unfortunately, to a Labrador, apparently pain killers are food.. I think managing a behaviour can be really dangerous, I slipped up Once. Only once. It landed both my dogs at the emergency vet. I'm so sad for what happened to you boys but wouldn't putting the meds up and safely away in cabinets prevented this? I've never had this problem, although never had a Lab, maybe having children makes me more careful with meds?
  7. Wouldn't that be management not training? Or if it was training it would be training me and not the dog. Besides that, you can't always keep your kitchen counter clear of food, at some point you'll need to use that space to cook on. I could be chopping or rolling or cooking something and turn my back for a second (literally, to put something on the other side of the counter) and Daisy would jump up and steal something. She'd even try to steal food as I was cooking it even if I was just standing there. Correcting her myself was causing conflict between us. She would actually try to jump up and lick hot saucepans and would stick her head in the oven to try and take food. Aside from being irritating counter surfing can actually be really dangerous. I'd rather teach my dog not to do it than have to manage it forever which isn't very realistic or practical. Well NO! It's training and pretty easy. Why can't you teach her to lay on a mat? It's easy to teach, when you're finished in the kitchen and the benches are clear, release her, it's not that hard:) if there is no freebies on the bench, she will learn its not a rewarding behavior, but whatever works best for you.
  8. I also wanted to say I am so sad to hear of Atlas passing and am sorry and sad for your loss.I guess it's an adjustment for Kaos too, try to be patient, maybe give her some new jobs or train some new tricks, she's probably missing her friend and noticing the changes:(....big hugs.
  9. Sorry to stay OT, but wouldn't keeping the counter clear of surfing rewards also worked?
  10. I watched one of your runs at the Nats with Chopper, thought you were both awesome, was too tired to remember what event. Just need need to remember its about you and your dog, no one else matters.....lol, note to self.
  11. That's horrible! Why do people feel the need to be so horrible I am a bigger lady as well, so it's very sad to hear that people who should be doing it for fun and for the dogs make such nasty mean comments behind your back it is not behind your back, it is to your face , with exception of the one when i was doing my lead out. I wonder sometimes if they think that I don't know and they need to tell me so I realise I am fat What I am FAT!!!! well there goes my miss australia entry they prob think they are helping, but as in case of OP it has caused a problem it is rude and can upset some people You're sooooo funny and i Think you should say that!
  12. Dogtainers transported my dog and three BC's to Heathrow and back in March, we were very happy with the service and condition of the dogs. They were so kind to us, had sandwiches, tea and coffee for us, I was a nervous, babbling mess, they let us stay with the dogs until the last minute:) When we collected the dogs from the Animal reception centre in the UK, they came out the same as they always are, we were amazed, they got over the flight in better shape than us. I also had two small terrier x's that I board go with Dogtainers to Heathrow and the owner emailed to say the dogs arrived in fantastic shape.
  13. I trained 'go' and a cue for the UK send-away, as I wanted a down when I called it. Now that I'm training for ANKC UD where the dog has to sit in the box, I say 'box' and have a different cue as he has to sit in the box.
  14. My dog travelled to the UK and back this year in March with Dogtainers, I thought they were excellent (I mostly dealt with Errol), they booked the dogs on a flight that didn't involve the dogs being unloaded, the dogs stayed on the same plane all the way to Heathrow, we picked them up at the animal reception centre just a short drive from the airport. Dogtainers were very up to speed on all vet work we needed done prior to leaving here and the UK. It could not of gone more smoothly.....when we dropped the dogs off in Sydney, they had lunch waiting for us, tea and coffee, they were totally awesome. AQIS at Eastern Creek were amazing too. You are more than welcome to pm me for any other details:)
  15. Had an awesome time watching so many amazing dogs and handlers, also great to meet the faces behind the names Am super tired, the NSW Agility commitee did an amazing job, massive task, awesome event, huge congrats, also huge congrats to the SIEC staff. Bring on QLD Agility Nats 2014
  16. I find being videoed makes me nervous, so a good opportunity to reward my dog. Also watching your video and being confident of what you have trained really helps. Watching other dogs at trials helps a lot too. Supportive friends, focus on the good bits, think of it as a way to test what you have trained under distraction. Plenty of amazing dogs and handlers bomb for the littlest thing. Plenty of poor work passes.Try as hard as you can to make your time in the ring 'your time', don't feel rushed. When the judge asks 'are you ready?' that is a question....so are you and your dog ready?Keep your eyes open, watch what's happening in the ring next to you, stall if you're worried. Watch the ring dogs, know what dogs will be next to you in the stays, if you're worried pull out....lol.Good luck and have fun:)
  17. [quote name='Poppy's mum' They are all positive training - no shock collars etc I used K9pro, no shock collars were used or mentioned.
  18. I board a very select group of dogs, even more so since I broke my leg last year by a dog running into me. I do what the owners wish, unless I see it is problematic, then I discuss it. I keep contact via facebook or email, send pics and videos, I know what it is like to be away from my own dogs. I never run dogs with unknown dogs....unless the owners have asked for it, because of my knowledge of the dogs I mind, repeat offenders, I know how they play and who and if they can be be matched with others. Most of the dogs I mind, I mind often, so I know them, know what they like and don't like. I want my boarders to go home the same and most often better than when they come in. It's sad to me that so many people have bad things to say about kennels, I know the dogs I mind drag their owners up to to my kennels:) I am a small selective kennel, I try to run it more like a farm stay. If your not happy, look for something smaller that cater for what you want you need. I know of kennels that charge heaps for a motel type room, I have no doubt dogs will be happier with lots of exercise and fun in preference to having a tv and lounge. Do and pick what ever you are most comfortable with, the dogs will manage.
  19. IMO a mock trial is your opportunity to bring fun into the ring. I would be using my dogs highest level rewards for any parts that need help, make it the best place ever.. I do this at a club I belong to, but most people just use it exactly like a trial run out. As long as you are mindful of other users, dont leave food on the ground etc, don't be intimidated by what others say and do, use it for you and your dogs greatest advantage.
  20. As fast as they appeared, they will go. I know the are awful but have patience, they will go:)
